  • Very good cool climate wine and certainly good value compared to the Clonakilla flagship. Co-fermented with 5% Viognier. Has the classic Canberra Shiraz white pepper.

  • Had a great lunch at Oncore by Clare Smyth yesterday. Very very exe wine list, so did matching wines..  grabbed an extra glass of this Neb.   Views speak for themselves

How brilliant!! You are one of a very select number on this forum who are/were manufacturers, and full respect🙏

I had plans, many years ago, to start beer brewing, until my wife commandeered the garage for other purposes. The garage is supposed to be returning to my control next year, but I think the brewing moment has passed, oh well😀

I was not really a manufacturer - I made the Ginger Beer from a recipe I came across, and fancied to make for myself so I  used to get the empty stubby bottles from a near by hotel and sterilise them, and I designed and  printed up my own labels using the home printer and glued them on. Then sold the GB at the local shop as friends and family like it. A little "cottage thing" I had going on for a while. Sold them to the shop for $1 a bottle but the outlay was not much as I used to pick the wild bush lemons and use that in the GB too so even they were free.

They were released many years ago, I’m thinking maybe 8 years.  Thinking  I paid around $250 per carton at the time. I’m yet to sample.

Ah, cool.

It seems a new Trooper comes out each year and it’s actually a fairly nice brew, I’ve not seen the 666 though so I must admit I got a bit excited about that one 😆

Morris Rutherglen Durif 2019

Morris Durif is a favourite of mine. I first drank a '93 with my dad when I had just moved away for uni, so it always feels like a bit of a special occasion wine, even at $23 from the local IGA.

Love Ginger Beer - before I moved to the Goldie, I used to make my own and keep it under the house (which was raised up) - how well I remember those midnight explosions hitting the floor boards🤣 *boom* there goes another one !!

I also used to make my own labels up & put on the empty beer bottles from the local hotel and sell the Ginger Beer at the local shop - awesome days.

People would drive out to buy it & I used to pray it would not explode in their car on their way home 🤪

What would you recommend from the small selection available in our stores (on our shores)?

I did the same, with my beer. Although the recipe was worked out by me from some early experiments and some info from 'extreme' brewing books. And I didn't sell it. Anything that didn't make it into my Christmas presents for the family was consumed by yours truly.

I found one thing that was truly useful (when it came to having non-exploding bottles) was a hydrometer. Most of my yeasts were fairly aggressive, so I had to make sure they were finished before I started bottling.

I still have a fair collection of empty 750ml bottles - the ones with the raised CUB (or other) mark on the bottles were also designated as still being owned by the brewery - which meant they were bloody tough and would generally blow the cap off (and not break) if you accidentally over-sugared your brew.

@Mendes, not sure if you heard of this winery, called Classic McLaren Wines (no longer exists). LaTesta range, especially the shiraz which was a fantastic drop in every sense of the words. I wish I bought at least a pallet to drink throughout my life. Tony De Lisio was the winemaker.
