MattyW Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Lol, I'm in the valve camp although I have heard some rather nice solid state gear.... Now if Apple would just make some gear with toobs [emoji14]Sent from my Redmi Note 3 using Tapatalk
Guest Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 (edited) @Sime and @Muon are both right though while talking about different things (a bit) Phones and tablets have replaced desk/laptop computers for a large number of people who are now happy with taking selfies and Facebooking via their handheld device. Nobldy uses a "real" camera anymore and photos are all on the phone or maybe backed up to a harddrive or USB stick, but not likely. I know people who have never used the internet on anything other than their phone. And as I said earlier, I have become one of "them" as 99% of my internet/computer usage is done on the iPad. I only use the PC when sending out a quote or invoice for work. Or printing something Edited September 11, 2016 by Dirty_vinylpusher

My media centre is also a Windows 10 PC though I'm currently looking for something smaller and inexpensive to replace it to save space. It only needs to run Netflix and JRiver. Guest Sime Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 @MuonMy whole point was that people do not care about machine performance, but machines doing what they want them to do. Apple make BETTER mass market machines than anyone else. This is their job, to make money. You care about performance, others don't. Others care about USABILITY, Apple has that in spades. You know I love ya man, but you have to stop thinking about what you like and think like an Apple CEO, who's primary goal is to make stuff that people want and make them money. What apple do better than anything else is that they marry hardware and software better. That's why their stuff is bullet proof. They don't want you changing graphic cards because it may make their product fail. I wanted to design a caravan without a kitchen from jayco, you can kinda custom make stuff from them, but they would not allow a kitchen less van to leave their factory, being is if I sold it, it looks bad on them that they made a van that useless without a kitchen. They will look after their reputation more than giving a customer what they want. Same with Apple, if anyone could chop and change hardware, there would be dysfunctional Apple computers everywhere, like there are Windows pc's. I gotta go to work

I gotta go to work Yes, Apple have always pushed a closed system, one major thing I dislike about them. It affords them a high level of control, of the end users also. Used to be worse before they started using common hardware. Look, if you like the things good on you, no need to continually try and defend them or justify using them.......Now can we let it rest?
Guest Sime Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 (edited) Did you read my first post in this thread, the one about Apple threads being turned into debates, well I didn't t start the debate, but I'll let you look back as to how it started. MattyW Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Hmmm, I continue to find the Apple interface to be horrid. I need to research the Mac mini some more. Maybe check out the one that one of my mates uses. It would be nice to get away from a wireless keyboard & trackball for HTPC use. Perhaps an Android device or Apple TV are worth consideration. Though I think I'll wait till I get a new smart TV and probably just invest in a NAS instead Sent from my Redmi Note 3 using Tapatalk
rotur Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 So where did the Iphone 7 release conversation go? Lost in the murky waters of pointless side debates no doubt...at the risk of bringing the conversation back on topic, does anyone know what time the phones get released (through telcos) on Friday? 1
Guest Muon Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Had a look around and I can't see any specific times anywhere, only stating a Friday release.

Guest Sime Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 @Saxon Hall don't you honestly think the Apple V's everyone else is getting a bit stale by now, same old arguments, yada yada? there will always be sides, it's just one side loves to moan waaaaay more than the other. Pc's, Samsung phones, nexus tablets, I don't care what they do ………………

In the past I've noticed that Apple stores tend to do the early thing (not sure if they still do, but big stores used to open at midnight so you could buy one at 1min into Friday 16th!). Then regular stores and smaller Apple stores you could buy from their usual opening times. I think the hype has calmed since prior releases, but I always skipped the enormous queues at Apple stores, and walked into a telco store with no line at all.

Guest Muon Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Dave, it's the same common hardware, so nothing special. Some folk think that because It's apple it is special somehow, yet it's that same hardware. Anything else is fantasy.

Guest Sime Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 I don't think it's special at all, I buy it because it does what it's intended for. And point me anywhere where iPads or iPhones are proven to be inferior in performance, not features, to their competitors. I dunno about anyone else, but my current gen iPad and last gen iPhone are pretty dam fast. As far as what hardware my mac uses, I wouldn't have a clue, being as its not important. My mac turns on, boots quick, and never crashes. I just oust don't understand why non Apple uses care so much that we are getting ripped off, as they say we are. Apple build products for a user experience, not for PC nerds who tinker. It's not rocket science.
