Really ? I'm surprised and sorry to hear you feel that way. I've found this to be one of the most welcoming forums out there. Not trying to deny what you are saying, just surprised

We do have some intimidating people around. Wants you to write a thesis with proper referencing. Admonishes you for not having done your homework etc.

  • Damn good idea Prof. There really are some super cheesy, sleazy avatars that remind me of what was considered OK in the 60's,when women were regarded only as cooks and sex objects.   I love the fema

It's pretty simple really. Over time SNA has evolved and there is a growing focus on making it safe for work and family friendly.    That means avatars reminiscent of the calendars some members had

Would it not be more that this forum has an 'In' crowd and everyone else including new members feels very much on the outer as their posts are largely ignored.

I am truly sorry you feel that way mate, but quite honestly I am not aware of any in crowd here and I think this is one of the most open, helpful and friendly forums I have seen on the internet. I have been here quite a while and have never sought to join or be part of any in crowd.

For myself, I always try to help new people if I can and if my advice is relevant to them and although I do not answer every post, I do try to help if there is a genuine question.

At times though, the sheer volume of posts here means that some posts won't be noticed for a time or it may take several days to get a response sometimes. :)

Hey now settle mate.  Just because we have half a dozen people or so who constantly pollute most of the threads with the same BS, particularly anything that's digital vs vinyl related, there's no need to feel excluded.   :love

I suggest that you start your own digital vs vinyl thread and get involved in the circle work!   :P

Oh yes, nothing quite like interacting on a social forum with scientists keen to unload their wares on the unsuspecting non scientists. :emot-bang:   Oh well I can always listen to music instead.

Like many here I'll help anyone if I have an answer that is sufficient, if not I don't.

Dad, Muon wants to talk to you

That's not nice, respect your wiser elder *wags finger at Caddis'*

Hell im happy to make up an answer if I don't have one. That's how helpful I am

... what Stereonet is trying to foster is a more inclusive membership.

In this day and age of social media... tell 'em their dreamin'. ;)

Forum's are a dying breed unfortunately... best to keep the current members happy.

No they are not intimidating --- Next time you feel that way think of the poster as quite sad and lonely -- and boring as bat guano really -- blinkered, one dimensional, limited in ones ability to see beyond their own world of self induced "facts" -- let no one intimidate you -- no place for the bully here.

and if you feel intimidated or offended -- report the post...

This is pretty normal for a forum... to reference posts and check on things when posting etc.

Any intimidation simply requires a polite but forceful reply... you'll find that will likely stop then. Prolly half of them are just joking with you anyway. :)

I like mine, especially the way he goes faster up hill and then turns left doing a kinda backflip and then nearly gets upright but then goes down again.

The original avatar is bigger and sadly this smaller version is a bit harder to see here on this site with it's size restrictions.

Happy to see the T&B brigade get their avatar's made over, it's pretty caveman really.

Janjuc has the best one. More like that please.

I don't think our target newbies will be all that internet savvy to frequent many forums :D

Aaaaaah that's where my Avatar went. Me, I like women that have an appreciation for music. My last Avatar was a poor defenceless woman who just happened to be well gifted by God. I think it's a shame that hot women with great bodies should be discriminated against. As for Mothers etc. being offended. My mum grew up in the swinging 60's and you'd be hard pressed to offend her. Frankly I find the curves of a Citroen C2v to be much more offensive. But, in the interest of Community will tone it down.

Frankly most mums I know would be offended by a smoking baby as opposed to barely dressed chicks.

Mine too. Thought it was a glitch at first so reloaded it. Disappeared again quick smart. I think it's all a little over the top tbh, people rushing about madly looking for something to be offended by - but rules is rules and if ya wanna play... I shall look for something a lil more appropriate. Actually, if I'm honest, my wife didn't like my avatar either - even when I pointed it that it may well have been her... Alas.

she obviously disagreed lol
