  1. Hello Todd, That was a great offer; I hope your generosity is rewarded one way or another!
  2. Lawsons listed these only last week, where they 'sold'. Either the winning bidder disappeared into thin air, or the winning bidder chose to put them back for auction. This may mean that they were indeed garbage, or that they were filled with Goodmans goodness, and are now empty cabinets. Caveat Emptor....! Edit: My mistake; unsold. I could've sworn they sold...... https://www.lawsons.com.au/asp/fullCatalogue.asp?salelot=9136++++++32+&refno=31738036&saletype=I
  3. Hello David, I am keen and have sent you a personal message. Regards, Phil
  4. Hello Ian, I bought it from a 3rd party seller on Amazon AU, CPL in Victoria. They finally answered this morning refusing a return saying what you did; they will flash the BIOS for me, but I'd have to wear postage costs both ways...about 32 bucks. I found out the board dates from 2018, so it appears they use Amazon to offload their lame ducks. I had actually planned to buy the MAX version from them when the return auth came through. Early this afternoon I had some joy! Failure is a great thing, you learn from it. I didn't realise you can flash it straight from a usb stick without cpu, ram or OS; bewdy! A heart-stopping moment or two while I did the flash, then assembled it, including crossed fingers. Success! I am typing on my new system right now. I also found out that MSI (probably just in USA) have a program to address this very issue which involves loaner CPUs to get over this hurdle. I gave myself a high five.....right in the middle of my forehead, where it's most deserved!
  5. I am in the process of building a new HTPC, and foolishly bought a board that doesn't support the Ryzen 3000 series chipset. I need to flash the BIOS with anything lower down the foodchain that is an AM4 type socket so that I can then use the 3600. Sooo, I am hoping that someone may have an AM4 chipset of some description that I can borrow. Happy to pay postage both ways, or buy outright (if cheeep!). Location 2229 Sydney Thanks and regards, Phil
  6. Hello, Is that a typo? I.e. did you mean to say '2425'? If they are the 18" 2245 bass drivers I'm dead keen (but am in Sydney). If 2425 I'm not in the market, but that's still a terrific price, particularly if one or both diaphragms end up being O.K. Cheers!
  7. I'm glad to read you acknowledge the possibility that you have not seen every compliance plate Marantz used, 'cause I don't think that badge has been modified. It's a pity brando1 has gone, 'cause it would be good for him to read and that with extra information, he could acknowledge that it was made in Japan, albeit sneakily badged. What a strange thing to butt heads about! Anyway, what I would like to contribute is that S.R.C. is Standard Radio Corporation (of Japan, that is!), who later were renamed 'Marantz of Japan'. So, it tacitly admits to being made in Japan, but it's necessary to decode the acronym.
  8. You mention Jeff Rowland in your initial post. Have you seen this ad from @@ozrayyau for a recapped Model 5? It's design ethos was to drive difficult loudspeakers. http://www.stereo.net.au/forums/index.php/topic/108500-fs-jeff-rowland-model-5-relist-and-price-drop/?hl=rowland
  9. Sorry to hear about your father. It's a great idea to offer them up though, his hard work will be appreciated by a new owner, and you can be consoled by the knowledge that you didn't have to scrap them. If they were in Sinney, I'd already be on the way over to pick them up! Good luck with it all......
  10. I also believe that is an isobaric enclosure; there'll be another 8" woofer facing the 'backwards' one. The description on the label hints at this......'duplex drive, 8+8'. I predict you'll find an oval midrange driver behind the grill. Sounds like it's time to break out the screwdrivers and take a couple of pics.....
  11. One thing's for sure; that TT is no Aldi special. It's a Transcriptors Hydraulic Reference with SME 3009 tonearm. I notice the ad's no longer $50, it's $120..........still about ten times less than what the turntable's worth!
  12. Hi Ian, If you are interested in buying new, I can unequivocally recommend Kazu-San in Japan. He had some health issues but is now up and running again...my dealings with him were probably my most positive internet transaction thus far. Prices aren't as cheap as they were, but still good value considering the level of service. http://www.audiokazu.com/
  13. I strongly agree with this. Even among die-hard collectors, there are those with a preference for originality (Jones plugs, Bulgin connectors over RCAs and IEC), let alone the mess the wrong tech can make internally. Regarding the ESL loudspeakers, there are literally only a handful of guys who rebuild them these days....and I know of only one in Sydney. To the original poster; If you plan to keep them, which doesn't sound like your preferred option, by all means go to the considerable effort of locating a suitable tech(s). Otherwise, let the enthusiastic new owner decide what servicing needs to be done and by whom. You'll still get good coin, and will probably sell to someone who will treasure them. I know I'd like to get my mitts on them! As others mentioned, if you still have the Garrard turntable, that's valuable and coveted all by itself. It looks like I see a Denon TT poking it's head out from behind one of the speakers (with 'dynamic servo tracer' tonearm?), which is sadly not as collectible. By the way, I noticed the address on the receipt. Low number Waratah St? I've lived around here all my life and cannot recall seeing a house there; maybe a timber yard? It's all commercial premises now. I'm showing my age!
  14. I'll chime in again.....it's about 35mm high, and about 60mm diameter, so not that big. Here's a photo with record label for perspective. Oh, and I was wrong about the mass; it's 165g. It was definitely marketed as a 200g clamp (not that it matters with the spring loaded collet arrangement).
  15. I meant to mention this days ago.....I did a bit of googling when you offered this, and I don't think it's completely useless without the 5000 to control it. It appears by configuring the switches on the rear it can playback by itself, albeit with limited control. Nice score for somebody, and a nice offer from you!
  16. It should weigh in at 200g; that's what the model number refers to. GLWTS, I've used one of these for years and I reckon it's the ideal record clamp!
  17. I am not aware of any current production TP4 moving coil cartridges. I am using an Ortofon 520U in my SL-10, and like it. It's a 5mV moving magnet with a fine line stylus. http://www.lpgear.com/product/ORSER320.html By the way, the Technics SL-10 doesn't have a built-in MC phono stage or preamp. It's a head amp/pre-preamp; gain stage only, no R.I.A.A. re-equalisation.
