  1. A lot of people never hear what their system is capable of, so if you want to use your laptop why not buy a USB DAC? You can get them new for well under your $500.00 budget, a Topping D50 for example is around half that, this way you will have a good source and can then worry about upgrading what's upstream later on.
  2. What about cash is small unmarked bills? Seriously though they are some really serious speakers. GLWTS
  3. If I was thirty years younger I may consider it but I get tired out driving to Bendigo these days let alone Perth. If these were in Melbourne I would snap them up as they are just what I'm looking for and the asking price is a bargain.
  4. I don't listen to Cd's directly but rip them to my music server and don't even bother with so called hi res files anymore, to my old ears Cd rips sound great. In fact one of my favourites for sound quality is Ray Charles - Genius Loves Company which was recorded in 2003/2004.
  5. Very sorry to hear about your loss, I know the feeling and having our things stolen wasn't the worst thing, it was knowing someone came into our home and went through our things. Hope they get caught and you get your stuff back, this was most likely targeted as they knew what to take and where it was. Someone gave them the scoop of what you have.
  6. I had the previous model of this, Perspective Mk2 with Speedbox, a beautiful looking and sounding turntable, someone will be very happy with this. GLWTS
  7. Nice speakers, GLWTS, I think you mean "audition" not "auction" for serious buyers. ?
  8. You could take them to a speaker repair place who could upgrade the crossovers, there is a guy in Melbourne who does this, it's not cheap though, but like A9X said you would be better off financially to just sell them.
  9. Those mid/bass are mesmerizing, and ribbon tweeters too. GLWTS
  10. Who has spent decades designing analog audio circuits, so yes he has more knowledge on the subject than us mere mortals. He also has some of the finest audio components in his home, so he listens to music a lot, so wrong in that regard. I won't even comment on the story about the tech and the DAC. It gave me a good laugh though. Let me say this if people hear a difference, it's their money and they can feel free to buy all they want and good luck to them. Cheers, Phillip
  11. I agree and asked an electronics engineer who spent his working life designing analog circuits for a huge U.S. firm, he gave all the facts, figures and more figures etc, most of which went over my head, but his bottom line was they won't do a thing to the standard of gear we buy. On the other hand I also agree that people that buy them can hear a difference as expectation bias is a real thing, just like a placebo when the person thought it was a real pill. Or to break it down further, when you wash your car it seems to run better, well mine does. ?
  12. Music soothes the soul, we listen every night before lights out, it's a way to unwind and relax. And there is always something new to listen to. For those that like to tinker HiFi is a perfect platform to do it, you can't run out and swap the engine, gearbox, suspension in your car without great difficulty but you can swap speakers, amps, sources in seconds.
  13. Fantastic power amp, had one and only sold it and my other gear when I moved back from the U.S. to Australia, someone is going to be very happy with this. GLWTS
  14. I have one of these and fantastic value for money, GLWTS.
  15. I like the way they have those protectors over the tweeter domes, should be on a lot more speakers IMO. Beautiful speakers. GLWTS.
  16. Great recount, glad you worked it out, 16,000 albums, that sure is a lot, how many have you listened to?
  17. Looks like its a SMPS as its listed with the Input Voltage: 100-240VAC @ 50/60Hz. It could also have a switch mode front end feeding variable voltage regulators.
  18. Beautiful, Dynaudio make gorgeous speakers with sound to match. GLWTS.
  19. The tweeter won't be hard to sell, nearly every used pair of B&W's I see with this sort of tweeter has the dome pushed in. GLWTS
  20. I see it happens in Japan too, people just love to push in dust caps. Whats the exchange rate, I get 1.4 cents Australian to the Yen?
  21. Fair enough, but it doesn't automatically invalidate all information on there, I don't automatically believe everything I read on any site, and prefer to do my own analysis, but the review I posted seemed to coincide with my own findings. If I had thought it would upset some I wouldn't have posted it. And don't worry I know what they are like, try saying you enjoy listening to Vinyl. Cheers.
  22. Sounds more like the TT is the problem, but I'm only guessing from a distance. As to the power regenerator others with more knowledge may chime in.
