Yup, PB2000. I'd love another but wouldn't fit in the position required. I had Paul Spencer do sweeps of the room to nullify a peak in response long the left hand side of the room . I have an old Yamaha YST-300 centrally located behind the back row of seats and the SVS is as far into the front right corner as possible.

I've had the projector replaced under warranty for a small optical issue with a % of the first batch. New one is significantly sharper!!!

New wifi LiFX light bulbs arrived last week to hopefully permanently fix the whole dodgy IR dimming switches I've used till now. Went to choose a suitable recessed down light fitting and told you can't get them with bayonet fittings any more :emot-bang:  despite it still being the Aus standard. Fortunately LiFX have a local warehouse and will swap them for me to screw in Edison style. @@Marc, did you source a fitting to suit the LiFX bulbs or left it to your electrician?

Wife now thinks we should just paint the entire room in the Charcoal of the front of the room... Despite quite a few heated discussions at the construction stage. Doh. I have to paint my daughters room as part of her birthday present next month, may as well do the HT while I'm at it.

3D kit coming for the x7000 next week too :D

Don't be afraid to go dark colours for a dedicated room. My wife convinced me and I'm glad we did.

I have the GU10 fitting downlights from LIFX, although I think they may have discontinued them due to lack of demand. No idea why there isn't demand for them. My whole house is GU10.

Yeah can't get those anymore, would be perfect for Aussie homes. Hope you don't have a failure! My room is already dark, just going from a dark coffee colour to charcoal to match the front "stage" area. The wife never liked the idea of the ceiling changing colour without something to break it up. I secretly think she also now wants the best picture possible seeing as though we have the new projector.

It's really coming together Neil, looks great.

Well done.

I have 16 GU10 down lights in living space. One blew - not bloody easy finding a replacement in Australia. Ordered a box of 16 from Germany. PITA!

Dark colours make a huge difference to projected image - especially with relatively lower output projectors like the JVCs. My front wall is black, and everything else is matt dark charcoal. Even the charcoal has some reflectivity in bright scenes, but does a pretty good job of maintaining contrast on screen.

New JVC's are not low output, I have the iris at -11 even for a 130 scope image.

Because I have top and bottom Fidelio velvet masks, not much gets reflected, in a black scene with the lights off, god bless JVC, you basically can't see where the screen ends and wall takes over. It's the same velvet Oz theatre screens use for their frame. I am going to set up the masking function of the JVC to make it even better with scope material

I'd like to thank blybo for the chance to have a demo of his system tonight, I'd have to agree you really can't see where the screen ends and the wall starts.

Congrats on a great room, very comfortable and great pq &  aq with your system, both you and Al are quite correct when you say the JVC X7000 has a brilliant picture, although I love my X35 these new ones take it to a whole new level. :D

I think you're going to have many years enjoyment in that room.  :thumb:

Thanks @@Kazz

Yes the system is coming is along nicely. Set up my 3D and Kazz and I watched first 7-8 minutes of The Martian.

Watched Everest later in the night in 3D. Freaked my wife out when the guy almost fell crossing the crevasse. Little bit of ghosting on some fast action stuff, but otherwise very happy with it. I think your mind takes a while to get used to 3D as well, really prefer the depth of field type aspect of it, which Everest had plenty of, rather than stuff jumping out of the screen.

amazing the sense of realism the depth of 3D adds isn't it. I really noticed it with everest. I don't like heights much and got that sense of heights watching it :D

Thanks @@Kazz

Yes I watched it in 3D too and really liked it; thought it was better than The Martian actually.

I'm interested to know what do you have the Clear Motion Drive setting on?

For 3D I have it on Low and for 2D I have it Off.

I really like what it does for 3D but for 2D it makes the picture look fake and less cinematic, IMO.

First evening I just let it do it's thing, including probably being too bright on high lamp setting. I have CMD off from memory. I also have my 3D screen size set to 130 in the oppo. That's my scope width. I know The Martian & Everest were both scope 3D but I'm under the impression most are 16:9, am I better to set it at 103 (which is my 16:9 size that fits the scope screen) and leave it? Not one to chop and change settings for each movie.

Sorry, can't help you in regards to 3D settings for CinemaScope and 16:9 as I'm only new to this projector stuff.

I've been watching 3D video on my TV for a few years and I wouldn't necessarily say most are 16:9 compared to CinemaScope; more like 50/50 I reckon.

A few weeks ago I was getting a weird hum in my 2 rear surround channels which I singled out as coming from my Processor. The tech looked at it and couldn't find any issues and it is now gone when reinstalled which is great, but he obviously played with settings getting them way out of whack.

Had the house to myself the last 2 nights. After a quick call out, watched The Martian in 3D Monday night with @@Martykt after doing a quick Audyssey calibration. Very impressive once my mind had become used to the 3D effect although it is not an overly dynamic mix... well not in my system. Last night watched IM Rouge Nation solo at a lower volume setting (-15db) and WOW, wish I had the opportunity to listen at these levels more often, I usually run at -40db with Audyssey Volume set to light so I don't wake the kids.

Edited by blybo

Great to hear the "problem" sorted itself out!

Yeah I normally listen at around -20dB for most movies, but my Mrs and Daughter went away for 4 days last week and I got to re-watch a bunch of movies at a more "appropriate" volume. Sicario @ -10dB with the bass run a little hotter than normal was a much more exhilarating watch! As was the final Hobbit movie

It's funny you mention M.I Rogue Nation, I swear that I read on AVS that this was a very "quiet soundtrack" compared to others and that many would need to have their MV boosted a few dB closer to reference than normal, with some people saying -5dB sounding right in their room. So of course I started at -5dB .... and was nearly put through the rear wall!

Lol, Rouge Nation quiet, hardly. That's AVS forum for ya.

Whack Spectre on, JEBUS.

Agreed! The opening scene of Spectre in particular is incredible!!!

Thanks again @@blybo for Monday night. :)

The HT room is really impressive and a great place to watch a movie.

The Focals sound great and the JVC does look stunning.

The depth the 3D adds is amazing though I have to say I personally seem to struggle with getting used to the 3D thing, it does look incredible though.

I enjoyed The Martian too, good movie !!

Agreed. I watched Spectre with the kids home so didn't get the full blown sound but can only imagine it was awesome. I rarely go to full reference level for 2 reasons, I don't think that volume is ever really needed and 2, I worry about my speakers despite all assurances they will be fine, especially with the Elektra giving them clean, unstressed power

Thanks Marty. The Martian picture in 3D was quite spectacular, still need to calibrate my 3D picture somewhat as it's probably too bright. You could never say that about older generation JVC's

great to hear blybo. i can't remember if we cranked the output back from high lamp to low lamp when I was there. by default the jvc are on high lamp wide open iris which is really way way too bright. I run about half way open and low lamp. better for longevity of your lamp too. plus colours more natural etc. I did tweak colour contrast brightness a tad too but didn't need much from the 2D settings :)

its fantastic to see the jvc come the way they have for 3D  and great to hear working well for you.

Couple more improvements done to the HT room.

Rear row of couches arrived last Friday so that basically completes the major pieces. They are recliners without the transformers connected as there isn't quite enough space to recline. At least it all matches. Once my processor sells I'll upgrade to a ATMOS 4k processor.

May be hard to see from photos but there is also now 100mm Polymax Absorb covering front corners of the room as well as floor to screen corner and side walls forward of the side cabinets. It looks a bit messy with all the lights going full blaze but you can't see it with lights off.

Now thinking of painting the entire room black, maybe even covering the front ceiling and my wall cabinets in black velvet. Can you believe the wife was the one that suggested it!
