Hi guys, I just thought I'd post a few pics of my humble lounge room system which has to suffice for both HT and 2ch duties.

  • Well I've finally got the new unit together, a task that would've been much easier if I'd been supplied the correct Qubelok fittings that I ordered (I should've checked properly when I picked them up)

Crikey! Don't bring the house down - must sound epic

Fantastic work, always expensive going for a dual set-up, but then you get the best of both worlds so well worth it.  I bet it sounds brilliant, thanks for sharing!

Needs a HD DVD player there the future

Great setup you've got there :)

And recent pics ... this arvo's Townsville 400 on the TV?

I think just about everyone that has a record collection has an Ikea Expedit or Kallax shelving unit :)

Holy moley!! Nice set up! Congrats

Thanks guys it does the job nicely and gives me plenty of hours of relaxation.

@@houdinifangs,  the house gets a rattle up on movie nights for sure,  the PSA twins were an awesom addtition.

@@Kaynin,  I think the main reason I get reasonable 2ch out of the system is the Elektra, I bought it for HT duties but it adds good oomph for music too. :)

@@Chill3, I do miss the HD DVD days.  :P

@@Sierra, yep the photos were taken yesterday, I had some others taken a while ago but since I've made some changes in the last couple of weeks I had to take new ones, yep was the Townsville 400.  The Expedit/Kallax do the job very well. :D

@@hkc, thanks.  :)

Doesn't look very modest to me, looks fantastic.

Would love your subs as well!

Congrats on your work Kazz, very nice. Looks like you would have prodigious bass, sorry if I have missed something but what type of speakers are they?

Yamaha components?

Thanks Darren, yep the bass is quite good ;), I had an M&K MX5000thx before but it was quite old and one day last year just died, I may have been able to get it repaired but decided to go with the twins instead and I have no regrets.

The speakers are Dali Concepts (not to the standard of many on here) for a not top end of the market speaker they sound really good in my room.  I have the 10's - fronts, 6's - surrounds, 2's - rear surrounds & centre - centre.

A friend of mine has Dali speakers and her system sounds great. She pinches all of my cables etc when I upgrade. :D

I was broke for 12 months after I got my Focals and there are still 'many on here' that are at a higher standard than mine! I wouldn't worry too much about it. :)

I bet your non-hi-fi friends are in awe of the system.

Ahh, PSA are Power Sound Audio, have not heard of them until now, there you go.

Haha my non-hifi friends think I'm completely insane.   :P

I hadn't heard of PSA until last year either but the Australian distributor Peter @ deephzaudio is happy to bring one around to try it out in your own system (especially as he's only 10 mins from me) and once I heard one I was sold. :D  :D

nice work kazz, apart from a few things in the pics there ...look like a few upgrades since I last visited some years ago :)

screen upgrade as well, I was sure you were running one of those stretchy curved edge lp morgans ? I was always curious about those but ended up getting a more conventional screen technics myself self.

am sure system working away a treat...

Very nice..see and feel the music. :)

Congrats.

Thanks Al, yep the room is basically the same, except I finally got rid of the window that used to be behind the ent unit, so I could hang the tv on the wall.  It is a new screen, you're right the last one was an LP Morgan but not one of the stretchy ones just a conventional motorised drop down and it developed too many waves to make watching movies enjoyable.  I'm really enjoying the whole system and enjoying vinyl again more than I thought I would. :D

There have been a few equipment changes to the system, I moved the Beyonwiz T3 to the bedroom and bought a Beyonwiz T4,  sold the CD player as I just wasn't using it at all, got an Apple TV4 and upgraded the Denon X4000 to an X4200.

The vinyl collection has increased just a tad. :P:rolleyes::wacko::D

After seeing Al's posts re his HT unit and seeing it in person last week, I went out today and bought the timber I need to make a new unit for my lounge.  I had intended to stain the timber today as well but after getting waylaid at Dixons and coming home with an armful of lp's it somehow didn't get done.  ;):P

On Monday I'll be ordering the Qubelok and by next weekend should be putting the unit together.

very nice kazz....looks like the vinyl collection is growing :D

look forward to see what you come up with using the qubelok for your HT unit :)

Thanks Al, about to stain the timber, it would be really good if the colour charts bore even the slightest resemblance to the actual stain colour though.:rolleyes::ohmy:

Hi Karen

Thanks for posting on SNA - great to have our female membership increased by a factor of 100% :)

Lovely looking system which I bet sounds terrific. Enjoy in good health.

Cheers

Hi Kazz

Are the subs a pair of Maelstrom X, 15' s ?

What do you think of them.

I just purchased 4 x 18's  :) and looking for a second opinion on that type of driver.

Haha I love what people on this forum call "modest", "humble" and "basic"

Thanks Andrew, it does sound great, but I'm biased :P and sometime this year I'll be adding a couple of ceiling speakers for atmos/dts:x/auro, can't wait to hear what difference it'll make.

I'm quite happy with 2ch sound too, it's always a compromise to have ht/2ch in one system and also not in a dedicated room but I'm ok with what I have.

The subs are Powersound Audio XS30's, each one is a dual 15" configuration and they really get the house moving at a decent volume.  :love:P :P

The shelves for the new unit are stained now, I had almost forgotten how much I hate painting/staining,  now to get the Qubelok this week and then the painful bit of the job, unhooking and re connecting all of the gear, gets underway.

Nice 4 x 15's, yea they would ripple the cladding on the house, no lack LF extension for movies, yea very modest  :D 15Hz bass monster.

DIY is fun until you are actually doing the job, usually on a Sunday arvo when anything else would be better  :P  certain amount of satisfaction though

Yep I do love the twins.   :thumb:

I'm paying for the hours of standing, bent over the timber sanding and staining, today, believe me.  I have a lower back issue from years of nursing and I really aggravated it yesterday, I definitely would've enjoyed sitting down listening to a few lp's much more.  :P
