I don't get much of a chance to fish - too busy golfing, speaking of which I had a glorious day yesterday at Sandringham, beautiful shot nearly in the hole!!

To the Mods: Can you delete the above post please as it has very little to do with the OP topic and no amount of topic drift will allow for someone to mention fishing and bloody golf in the same sentence.

Now I always respect gut instinct yet I kinda ignored it when I met the Evil one for the first time but it was always there nagging away at me...

I now know what it was: He's a bloody golfer! A more useless pastime has yet to be invented, no wonder he can't catch fish the nong.

You're just jealous - besides the good looks I was blessed with talents extending beyond being merely a fisherman such as your good self!

Bon vivant , traveller, aesthete  - - I have many titles.

Balance I think they call it - yin & yang so to speak, yes that's it!  :P

I've posted about my past fishing exploits...both times fish could be seen even trying to jump out the water...do you think we could catch any ?

am bad mojo if taken along....guranteed to catch a couple of tad poles at best :D

No guarantees in this life al , but as I mentioned can take you to a spot near a Trout farm and a golf course.

One of the best days of my life, 5 Trout in few hours, great round of golf followed by winery visit to stock up!

Now that's living the dream. ;)

can combine the two you know. went with some friends to this golf course in mildura. plenty of lakes all around the golf course. most of the balls we had went into the lakes :D great walk around the golf course we had...because we couldn't play golf or fish hehe

I'm really not seeing the "torturous" in the post above.

However, apart from that, I support it 100%.

Don't keep any flatties above 42cm as they're all big girls and breeders and neither should you.

Those look pretty dry judging by the colour and the mouths. Who caught em and why aren't they on ice?

So suspicious @@Luc !!!!

Caught Tuross Head & you now have to contend with the "Supreme Ruler" (not me - the real deal!)

NSW minimum size is 36cm, and you are allowed 1 over 70.

Oh I know that, I just choose to set my release length at 42.

The drought is broken.

Good bag this morning. Smallest around 45cms. Most just on or above 50cms.

Finally cracked the code for the local area when things are tough (and they're REAL tough at the moment in the estuaries around here).

I'm well familiar with the legal sizes and bag limits, and was well within my limits (also confirmed with the local fisheries officers who came aboard for a look-see).

I've practiced catch and release for 20+ years, as well as being a big advocate for it for many years in the native fishing scene during my time founding and owning one of the largest fishing sites in AU before moving it on a few years back.

However being on a family holiday, with 3 families to feed, these were kept and enjoyed (and enough left over for another feed too).

Dry? Huh? They are typical colour of a Dusky (not those pesky sandy or blue spots you get) from an estuary in this area (in this case a land-locked lake). Just taken out of the livewell and snapped right away.

Not Tuross Head (but close).

My limit is generally around 55cms.

You have to eat and it don't get much better than a feed of flatties. I note the difference in estuary fish and beach caught ones their camouflage is extraordinary at times with the ones I get in the bright light here coming out almost matching the bright white sand.

Good catch Marc.

Edit: All my beach caught flatties are Duskys not blue spots. Got the Richmond river on one end of the beach and the Evans river on the other end. The beach is crawling with them.

Edited by Luc

Another 11 today all around the same size as yesterday's catch. Most went back :)

@@Luc - sure they're duskys? Thats quite unusual.

Trying another lake tomorrow, and spending some time chasing the elusive jewie for a few days.

Yup, pretty sure. Caught a 4.8kg on off the beach around Xmas. Ever heard of a blue spot getting that big?

Fisheries inspectors nailed me in Nov last year and they said: Nice duskies. I pointed out the blue spots on the tail. not blue spots they said they're ocean spawn Duskies from the rivers.

I'm not arguing.

It's not called the Northern Rivers up here for nothing, the Clarence, the Richmond, the Tweed are big rivers and their altered delta's haven't fooled fish like duskies or snapper(oddly enough) and they'll spawn and live along the beach. Best beach caught snapper was  a bit over 3kgs a while back. Did it at Moruya one year too.

Glad to hear they went back in mostly. I like a feed but I've foregone the odd one because all I've caught are big girls.

I can do this though as I fish every week at least one sometimes two days a week.

I don't begrudge any holiday maker or occasional fisher a feed but anyone who fishes weekly should limit their catch and not catch their limit.

Actually i just discovered the blue spot species dont get that far north.

The northern sandys can get pretty big but not bigger than about 60cms i think. I still reckon they could be sandys if they are indeed off the beach, and it wouldnt actually surprise me if fisheries misidentified them! Haha

Im not familiar with your area or system though so I'm not going to disagree with you :)
