I'm the opposite, once I start, I don't stop till I decide to go to bed, and with neat Scotch, that can get messy.

I wish I could get into drinking tea, I've tried Jasmine, black, herbal, fruity... nope.

I related to that first line big time, except I would go for days before stopping.

Have you tried Dandelion?

It's good for the liver too, bonus!

It's nice, we used to use the Symingtons one.

Yep, wouldn’t stop till there was nothing left in the house. ☹️

Sounds very familiar :)

Great to see you and some others are doing well, and benefiting from staying off the grog :thumb:

Cheers mate, appreciate it. Hope you’re doing ok too. ?

Apart from a few isolated moments I have been off it for about 26 years, tripped up after my farther died for a short time 15 odd years ago, and tried to have a drink on a couple of occasions caving into peer pressure, but by that stage it  just tasted like poison.

Helps that I removed the reasons for needing to drink, before those experiences.

It's one of these things that just gets better and better over time.

Good work mate well done. Haven’t slipped up yet. I think I could control it but not really game to try. I don’t really miss it.

They had a controlled drinking program at the RBH years ago, it was not a success as I recall. Have watched plenty try and very, very few can do it for a lengthy time.

Likely are exceptions, but they are definitely very few.

Yeah, not a gamble I would take up.

The important thing to remember for those that do slip up is, that It's not the end and that choice is still there. No point in beating ourselves up over it as that can be used to justify another drink :)

Not a very good start to the week.

My father passed away yesterday morning. He has been sick for years but this was all very sudden. I thought that we at least had a few more years together.

I will stay strong and I’m not going to drink, I’m pretty confident of that.

My main problem lately has been sugar and sweet things, which also lead to my fathers problems. It has made me even more focused to not end up like he did.

My father had the most amazing and blessed childhood and unfortunately lost his way when my mother passed away 25 years ago. He was 69.

RIP mate, I love you and I’m sorry I couldn’t help you more.

@Pops110 My deepest sympathies to you, we are never really prepared for this kind of thing.

Be kind to yourself through the grieving process as I'm sure you will be.

?

Very sad news Dave, condolences to you and your family.

Great advice...no more need be said...

Sorry to hear @Pops110

My condolences to you and your family.

Re the sweet stuff, just like alcohol, it is a habit that can be changed. I'm back (unofficially) on my CSIRO eating plan which limits sugars to what you get in the small amount fruit and carbs suggested. Only problem is I'm also getting back into cycling so long rides are an issue, as would be your running.

@Pops110 condolences mate, it's a very 'final' thing to happen and we all get a go at it, am here if you need a vent, as always.

Awwww man so sorry to hear Pops. Cannot imagine what it must be like as (thankfully) I have not yet lost a loved one but I'll also extend my crusty ear if there's anything I can do to help ease the pain your going through.

Sorry to hear mate - stay strong as they say back home Kia Kaha

Thank you for all the kind comments, it does mean a lot to me.

I wasn’t looking for sympathy but I find it helps to get things out. Be it by talking to friends and family or writing it down. It all helps to heal. Something I didn’t do for a long time after my mother passed. I will reach out Daz and TB if I start to struggle.

Thanks again.

 Cheers Dave.

So, yesterday marked 3.5 years.

Im pretty happy that I’ve made it so long, especially after the dramas the last few months. Currently not living at home and not sure that things are going to work out. I have been tempted to have a drink but I’m just not really that interested, I’ve been feeling pretty **** lately anyway so adding a hangover to the mix doesn’t sound very appetising.

Cheers Dave.

Jeez Dave, it sounds like you have had a flipping terrible run, congratulations  with staying positive enough to maintain your healthy abstinence though mate.:thumb:

Always welcome to pop by here if you want to have a yarn and spin a few discs (silver or black) I recon Surgical Steel on vinyl would go down a treat?

Hi Dave

Well done mate, hang in there.  ?

Cheers

Pete

Cheers mate, might have to take you up on that when things smooth out a little.

Its just life isn’t it. Has its ups and downs, but it seems that more often than not the downs seem to happen close together which can make things seem that little bit tougher.

Its how we come out the other side that matters. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, There doesn’t seem to be the stigma around it anymore which is great.

Cheers Dave.

Very good point, but as it seems that the mind will grab onto negatives (wording) more easy than a positive.

So I'll say that a better wording is "I'm a non drinker"

I made an error in the above, the negatives are not held as well (from my understanding)

So with a statement like, I'm not a drinker, is held as I'm a drinker.

Meh...

Thread revival.

Had a few too many last night hosting a dinner party. Felt ordinary this morning and then broke my fast and my diet with junk food. Now feeling pretty crappy with myself over the whole issue and fed up with it all.

I've always been a regular drinker but since Christmas the consumption has got a little heavier once more, so need to do something. I've switched from beer/wine to spirits and diet mixers as part of my ketogenic diet. The problem is the stuff is so easy to drink, and because I drink (any liquid) quickly, I've had too many before the full effect kicks in. And who am I kidding? Still drinking regularly is the only reason my weigh loss has plateau'ed, as it also makes me tired and less likely to exercise.

So I'm off off it till Easter school holidays. Will re-evaluate then.

I'm going to install the big ass fan I've been procrastinating over doing and get back into my cardio sessions on the indoor bike trainer and treadmill of a night time when I'd otherwise be drinking.
