Haven't checked in for a bit. Been a bit up and down with the drinking lately. Was pretty good this weekend. Had a few on sat and a couple on Sunday .

Been hitting the running and the riding pretty hard. Don't want to spoil my hardwork by drinking. So have been quite happy with things.

Did a bike ride on sat morn, jumped straight off the bike into a fairly decent run. Big run yesterday.post-113906-0-75256400-1428371461_thumb.post-113906-0-57415300-1428371475_thumb.post-113906-0-52301600-1428371484_thumb.

Keep up the good work guys.

Cheers Dave.

Nice, I had a mate that lived at Belmont.

Talked to work this morning and I told them that I need another two weeks off. No dramas.

wow thats some serious pace you have going there. thats my problem I think am just coasting along and then eating more in any case to compensate. have to watch the intake ! weather here this week has gone to cr@p here in anywise so running probably off the agenda.

Well done Pops. That looks like an interesting App you are using, what is it?

Cheers Mondie, the app is called Strava. I think that there is probably better ones out there now, but I still find this one pretty good, it's got all my runs on so I really don't want to change.

I just have the free version, but you can upgrade but it's a little pricey, but you get a whole lot more features.

Cheers Dave.

Cheers Al, I'm slowly getting quicker. I've been overeating as well, I really want to drop 5 kg before the Joondalup half marathon, I'm looking for below 1hr 50 min. Better pull my finger out.

Bit worried about next week. It's my birthday week and the missus will be away, so I'm really trying not to have a blowout with the drinking and the eating. Gotta try to stay focused.

Cheers Dave.

A beautiful clear morning for the walk-run-wheeze-walk-run-wheeze this morning, I love this time of year. Feels good to be back into it.

I've been a Strava user for years, it's great. The Premium thing is $6/month, but they have some good data there, for cyclists anyway.

I went to see my GP on Friday. My weight was 144kg, down from 153kg on the day of the operation, which was down from the near 166kg on the day I started the necessary pre-surgery diet about four weeks ago. (The sight that greets me in the mirror now is certainly reducing in breadth. It's also wobbling less and beginning in parts to swing, the man boobs looking like a couple of deflating wallets. Daily I am convinced that it could benefit from a good ironing.)

Have not taken any BP medication since SD (surgery Day) and today it was 150/80. My doctor has decided to monitor how it goes and keep me off any more medication for the moment. I didn't mention it at the time but a week before SD I was taken from work in an ambulance because I was having breathing trouble, the sweats and had gone all Procul Harum. It turned out that the rapid weight loss and unchanged BP medication had turned high blood pressure into low blood pressure.

Apart from that all appears well. I had a little bit of a walk, did a little bit of shopping and then came home and eased myself into my listening position and stayed there, exhausted, for a few hours. It was the first time I had left home since Thursday of last week. Will have another little outside adventure tomorrow.

You take care of yourselves out there, won't you?

Well done @ "JukKluk2" … the continuing weight loss will improve your lifestyle. Keep going and we look forward to hearing further improvements to your health and increased activity. Less use of the remote will help to! Lol

Well done. I can't begin to imagine what you have been/are going through. To me at least it is an inspiration. I tip my hat, good sir, and wish you both a speedy  recovery, many many years yet plonked in your listening chair, and lots and lots of rest in the next few weeks.

Thank you for those kind wishes @. It really is just a case of slowly coming back to normal. Some things are easy whilst others are less so. But, yes, I am looking forward to another couple of weeks R&R.

I misread the second session as a cycle and wondered how you'd burnt so many calories in such a short distance :)

Wish my knees would allow me to run but I can at least commute by bike now I've got one up here

So , haven't been drinking this week. It's from Tuesday onwards I'm worried about.

Did a personal record for 10km today in the bridges run.

Really happy in my head and myself. Who hoo. Just gotta stay focused for next week.

Keep going guys.

Cheers Dave.

Well done Dave, you must be feeling fantastic.

I have loaded up the phone with Strava (free version) but I dont get all the stats you do. The two things I want most are calories and altitude, the screen shots show you have both but I dont. Got me stumped as to why.

Not sure Mondie, I've just got free version myself. It seems to come up with everything on there.

Maybe shoot them an email? I do like strava for all of the features, and a couple of mates have it so we stir each other up, all good fun.

Cheers Dave.

Really good to hear you are travelling well Dave. :)

Sunday night weigh in- still @ 95kg.

Not surprising, office full of left-over easter eggs etc, haha. Back to the six pack this weekend just gone and hope to get in three RWWR's (run-wheeze-walk-run) this week. :D

1 kg in a week is always a large weight reduction.  Losing 4 kg in a month would be really significant

No weight change is not a bad outcome, especially if weight was going on before.

Sustainable lifestyle is important (I like the 6-pack idea as a step change for you).  Good luck.

Benje

(86 kg - if only I was taller I'd be the perfect weight)

did a run 1hr run sunday, and a close to 2hour ride today...keeping light on the alcohol

nudged under 90kg this morning...lets see if can keep that going downwards :D

Definitely agree with this.

You also get to a point where the weight loss rate drops quite a lot, but the trick is to get to a goal just over what you want and then aim to come down more gradually to the end goal. In my case I lost 45KG ( from 125 ) in eight months.

The first marker was below 100KG.

The second was 80KG and my end game weight is 72KG.

What I found was that it took me only 8 months to lose 45KG and since then ( another 8 months ) only 5KG and in a maintenance phase, which is probably just as important. I vowed that I would never, ever gain the weight I lost and now if I occasionally hit just under 77KG it is action stations, big time.

The best part is that I now know exactly what to do and have the discipline to do it. Discipline is not easily gained but it runs inversely with weight loss i.e it gets stronger while weight falls.

In the end there is nothing magical about weight loss, it is all about priorities and how you see yourself. Until your weight becomes a central issue in your life, you won't deal with it and it really is that simple, but never confuse simple with easy :)

I was at a life crossroads and my choices were stark in terms of future health if I kept on ignoring the problem, but one of the biggest challenges was admitting I had a problem, just like a drug addict or an alcoholic. Once that was done, I knew what I was and what had to be done.

Everyone will be different of course and it isn't always as stark as my situation was, but the universal component in weight loss is motivation and sheer hard work in resisting stuff . What I find now is that the stuff I had to resist is now only moderately of interest and in some cases, I don't even crave it anymore .

I hope this helps somebody, somehow and to everyone fighting, realise that the fight is worth it ( totally ) :thumb:

rantan

re the cravings.

I 'only' do a 5:2 diet plus a lot of exercise, so my choice isn't that hard.  And I am only losing a few kg's at this stage (although my aim is to lose a further 6 kg which would be fantastic).

And, I still eat some rubbish, because I enjoy the taste of (some of) it.

What I find interesting is that I really enjoy what I might eat, and then can say no to anymore.

Before, I didn't really enjoy the rubbish, but kept eating/drinking it.

However, there are some foods which I just don't crave for anymore, and some foods (fruit juice) which I would be lucky to have a serve of perhaps once a fortnight.

And, water continues to taste decent.

However, getting down from 125 kg to below 80 kg and staying there is a fantastic effort.  Well done. :thumb:

May I say I feel very fortunate that the posters here feel able to encourage one another so well - it certainly pumps my tyres up when I am feeling a little over it all.

Cheers to that.

edit: he says hopping on the waterrower for a cheeky half hour before tea..

The return to life continues apace. Aside from waking up late and going to bed equally as late a sense of normality is beginning to manifest itself. Blood pressure has remained at a happy level, 140/80, without the need for pharmaceutical intervention, I'm down a further 4kg this week too. Food intake is still no more than a thick puree at best and despite the diet plan saying that I can have more I am finding that a half a cup (cooking measure) is more than enough for lunch/dinner. In fact I am only having one main meal when the allowed is two. I just don't need it. so, the daily intake is roughly as follows:

1 x Weetabix with warm milk - breakfast

1 x 140g pureed fruit pot - morning snack

1/2 cup of pureed mains (Bolognaise sauce, chicken curry, chicken and leek soup) plus another 1/2 cup of pureed vegetables (potato, carrot, zucchini, beans) - lunch or dinner

1 x yoghurt tube

plus about 1.5 litres of fluids

As I said before, I am supposed to have lunch and dinner but I am just not feeling the need or have the capability to consume it.

This coming week I will be getting out and about a bit more in preparation for my return to work on Monday week. I will continue to purchase the odd lottery ticket in an effort to not have to go back but hold out little hope of success.

I hope that all of you who were caught up in the initial fervor of this thread have continued in your resolve, it is well and truly in your best interests to do so.

More when there is more.

Gday @jukkluk

Glad to hear you are getting better although sounds like a fair road back. Wish you well.

Yep still off the beer here, has been good all around, including the pocket, can spend more on audio gear now :)
