In American experimental music composer John Cage’s 1952 composition 4’33”, the performer is instructed not to play his instrument - it is 4mins 33secs of silence.

A premonition of this composition occurred 20 years earlier this 1932 cartoon published in the pianists magazine The Etude. Ironically, the cartoonist’s name, remarkably, is Hy Cage!

I must be strange. I never thought that it was anything other than fasting but it seems that I am different to most .
