$1200 budget:Which coffee machine(Auto)?

Featured Replies

can you zap it in the microwave if you don't want it cold (or is that heresy ?)

I believe that you can with cold press choose to have cold or hot - I have only ever had cold because the iced coffee is sublime

I'm not sure you guys are reading the OP's requirements...He doesn't want a POD,coldpress, grind your own etc.   Luc the Saeco Royal Cappuccino consistantly rates well, Check here ----> http://www

  • No idea what your talking about sorry, and it's not for me, I have a machine but thanks for taking the time to reply.

  • A 2 year old PLO42EM  does a nice coffee and having the conical burr grinder built in it doesn't take up too much space

No idea what your talking about :) sorry, and it's not for me, I have a machine but thanks for taking the time to reply.

@@alittlewino : As I said in my original post, she is my niece and she has two babies and she will be resuming her career shortly and wishes to have a simple set up. She may well know what your talking about but as she's asked me to see if I can hunt up some suggestions for a machine that's what I'm trying to do :)

I've spoken to her today and her hubby and thanks to @@bwhitesox 's link and suggestion I think they are going to spend a little bit more and get a Breville and probably this one>> Breville the oracle

Just read through that link and the phenomenal score the Breville gets, I've read this before about the Breville, I'm getting an itchy finger now and eyeing my Lelit and wondering how much to sell it for!

Sounds like an excellent choice.

Good choice but an interesting interpretation of a little bit more ;)

Yes it is isn't it, I might of looked for a different machine and advice if I'd known we could jump a grand at the drop of Latte!

That is quite a bit of budget creep!  Great automatic going by online posts of owners' experiences with the machine.

Well I think my familial duty is done now, I've canvassed opinion and SNA has spoken(@@Marc...lol) and group opinion has won the day :)

Good point! Is more than double usually thought to be a little bit more around your parts, Luc?

  • 2 weeks later...

We have purchased the new coffee machine for work. It is one model up from the last one. Let's hope that this one is good for 47,000 cups too.

Purchase price was $1,899:

Beware the brevilles...

only had problems with these.

The best machine I ever had was a Gaggia Classic..... Audiophile coffee!!!

Closest thing to a high standard italian café machine, other than the Rancilio.

I'd stick with the italians.  Just keep it clean and use filtered water.

I managed to fix and repair all the issues I had with my gaggia, open them all up anf they're simple on the inside.

the automatics are another story!

Dunno about that, I'll put my Lelit up against a Rancilio Silva or similarly matched Rancilio any day.

Luc, yes forgot about these.... very good. I've never had the pleasure to use one though, but I take your word for it.

Did a lot of research on the two before I went with the Lelit and it was down to a couple of things but it was the build internally that won me over after reading a comparison done by a guy who services and repairs both and he lent towards the Lelit for that reason:Superior build quality. 2.6 years in (touchwood), and not a prob with it.

I have an old vespa and find that the italian coffee machines are similar in their longevity...

I wouldn't say this about a lot of italian things however, particularly their football team.

Or their cars or their motorbikes...lol, I used to have a couple of Ducattis, lovely things...when I could get them start that is!

There was a very good technical review of the Rancilio Silvia and the Lelit/Nemox Caffe Del'Opera Combi.

http://www.coffeeco.com.au/articles/comparison.html

The technician in Victoria took them apart and highlighted the pros and cons of both units.  Conclusion was that both were robust.  The Nemox was great value for those wanting a smaller footprint with attached grinder.

My PID Silvia has been going strong since 2006 making a double almost every morning - when I'm home in Sydney.

I have my eye on a Rocket Evo 2 - bigger, badder, E61 group, rotary pump... but would it actually result in better coffee for the extra cost?    Sometimes we upgrade just for the hell of it  :P

Italians appear to make pretty reliable, high quality coffee machines  :thumb:

I've had the original dual boiler for 2.5 years now. Great machine and regularly beats coffee from well regarded cafes. Once needed to get a screw that held the shower screen in place, replaced under warranty. Other than that it's been a joy. Love the wake up feature.

Mate has just bought the Oracle for work and I'm tempted once funds allow. As the Breville's are sold in box mover stores you should never pay even close to retail, I saved about $700 on mine AND got a grinder thrown in.

M I'm not sure what you're talking about here as the Breville dual boiler is known as a very capable machine, Maybe the lower model Brevilles are problematic who knows.

The Gaggia and Rancilio are both good entry level machines before moving up to an E61 group head HX machine which will eat them for breakfast.

Or their cars or their motorbikes...lol, I used to have a couple of Ducattis, lovely things...when I could get them start that is!

It's a Vespe PX200  with a manual foot starter, no electronics envolved, starts every time. But yes, its the only thing along with the Gaggia classic that I think I would purchase from Italy. Except of course their wine and food but that another story. Why is it all the disfunctional european states have the best food?

I've just returned from 3 weeks in Northern Italy. Believe me, after 20 odd days of the beautiful, but fairly limited choices available in Italian restaurants, you can get plenty sick of pizza, pasta and paninis. Got to love the diversity of Australia.
