Seems any female singer that can reach high notes is frowned upon.

Yep know that feeling. Cassandra Wilson and Erykah Badu are out when my wife's around ?

Little update;

bought a nos Marantz TT-15s a few months ago and sold my Project. Also added isoacustic feet to my Spatials and somewhere along the line also got some Lenehan speaker cable. I think I also bought the Rel S3 around 18 months ago. Setup was too easy or just pot luck, whacked it the corner, tweaked a few controls and all done

Well incredibly in roughly 4 years I have not changed a thing in my 2ch set up... except I've just moved it to a new house. We love the new place but I always knew the 2ch system would be compromised in the family room. This was day 1 and I've since moved the tv to the kids room and put my sub along the left hand wall. We aren't sure yet whether this room needs a TV as the kids have a dedicated rumpus/TV room and we are turning the lounge room into a Cinema/media room.

We want to ditch the current white buffet for something smaller to house the HiFi. I also want to position the sub on the same wall as the gear and this piece below is high on the short list, and the TT and integrated could both sit inside it.

The room has lots of good features for sound. There is a multi angled/faceted cathedral ceiling and the rough stone (concrete really) wall behind the system should offer reasonable dispersion. The downsides are the system is cramped to the side of the room with no other obvious position. There are also lots of windows and polished floorboards which give the room some reverb issues and very "live" sound.

This is a shot from the sales campaign which give a bit more of an idea of the positioning conundrum and ceiling. The system is currently located where the previous owners had the timber buffet. To the right hand side of the fireplace is a hallway just out of shot so a speaker could possibly go there, but wife has veto'ed that for now. We have a new chaise lounge suite coming in about 4 weeks so might revisit placement then

Noticed any difference with the Iso's on the Spatials?

I certainly did in the last house with floating timber floor over concrete slab. In the photo above they had Herbies sliders under them as I hadn't found my Iso Gaias, the herbies were in the Gaia packaging. I've since found the Gaias and put them on but didn't do critical listening before or after.

Well the Spatials are gone :bye:, I've concluded that I was never going to get a position in this room that made sense visually for large floorstanding speakers. They sounded great even though the room must have a terrible reverb figure.

In their place we have a pair of Kef LS50 wireless II crossing the Nullabor from a nice SNA member and should be with me in a day or two. As I'm still waiting for my surround sound AVR and speakers to arrive I don't currently own a stereo system for the first time in my life since being a teenager. The only thing I have is my Audioengine office speakers so they will have to do as I ponder what this Sunday will bring.

My Moon Neo Ace will not be required for the new family room system. It will be repurposed into the main TV room and my surround system will also do double duty as my 2ch system. The Moon has a processor mode so it can work as a 2ch pre with the Krix Neuphonix and Elektra power amp and then get out of the way when surround duties are called upon.

Haven't decided yet where my TT will end up, but initially it will follow the Moon into the main TV room.

A change is as good as a holiday they say. We have had way too much change go on in the last 6 months...

  • Bought the new house start of Oct 22
  • Moved out of our previous house to my parents townhouse early Nov 22 for sales campaign
  • Dec 3rd auction delayed till Dec 22nd (bit close to Christmas )
  • Moved back in straight after fantastic auction result (including sale of all my HT equipment and furniture)
  • 10 day Caravan holiday on boxing day
  • Move out for good Jan 22nd and back to my parents
  • Another short break in the van for Australia day weekend (and to give my parents a break)
  • Finally move to new abode Feb 8th
  • Order new Krix/Marantz/Elektra HT system Feb 14th
  • Sold my beloved Spatial S3 open baffle speakers close to 2 weeks ago
  • Kef LS50ii Wireless arrived late last week
  • Picking up new caravan this Saturday (BIL's tow vehicle)
  • New tow vehicle (Ford Ranger) has been stuck at the wharf in a quarantine fiasco since Jan 15th :emot-bang:

So as it was yesterday

My wife decided she needed a TV in the room and thankfully the LS50 wireless have a HDMI port so the TV sound doesn't sound too bad, perhaps a little bit hollow which I guess is a product of the TV's streaming platform, I haven't tried an Apple TV on this TV yet... But music streamed via Roon/Tidal over WiFi is excellent.

I think my new room is a bass vacuum, so initially when the LS50 were set up without a sub, the sound was lean and lacking bass extension, which is not how I remember hearing them in other rooms. Once I set up the sub and got the high and low pass filters to my liking there was a huge transformation. I'm probably running the Rel S3 sub a little hot, but I don't care :na:... Lorde's Royals is a real eye opener and was rattling things down the other end of the house! Now if my wife and kids would just let me turn the wick up a little more often I'd be super happy. I guess that will have to wait for the "media room" system. Hopefully that arrives next week.

Anybody have good idea for playing vinyl in this room which doesn't look stupid? Obviously I can't put it in front of the TV and we don't want to drill into the brick wall to mount the TV, or a turntable shelf. If I put a TT in the entertainment unit it would be right royal pain to access to play vinyl, so it would end up being more of a static display

Is there a phono preamp available with switchable RCA and Optical output? As my speakers would convert to digital anyway, I could run an optical cable under the house from our soon to be set up media room. The RCA would go to my Moon Neo ACE which will also be integrated into the HT system for 2ch listening.
