Worth a trial 🤣

The act of "lowballing" needs to be addressed and "shaming" is an excellent way to attack the problem. You could add "SNA suspension" to the options as well.Anyone who has ever experienced lowballing would add other niceties to your list.

Other forums in particular FB and Gumtree are "infested" with lowballers and scammers and most people avoid those forums like the plague.

I see it differently perhaps. A lowballer wasn't ever really a potential buyer in the first place. They are just an opportunist, and ultimately, it depends how desperately the seller needs to sell. They may even be doing them a favour providing a quick sale that gets someone out of a bind. Maybe think of it like a pay-day lender. The choice to sell solely remains with the Buyer.

On the other hand - I like lowballers as I get to practice my sales techniques and skills. Anyone who makes contact is a lead, and therefore a potential buyer.

Personally, I don't take offence to lowballers. But I know plenty do.

I don’t really get the angst. The seller has complete freedom to sell to whoever they choose.

In some cases it may be a cultural misunderstanding too. As in “you gotta haggle…”.

Does the ignore button work in classifieds? I mean, anyone that annoys you normally can just be put on ignore. Works well :)

Many sellers are complete dreamers and need tellin' (as in The Castle) we should have a High-Ballers response too.

Greedy Bar-steward

Dreamin'

Optimist

Huh - No-way!

There's no shame in chasing a bargain and better a low-ball response than no response at all. I've sold a few items on here and it's never knotted my knickers.

Like this, a lot of ads get repeated over an over with no change in price, I think we all think our gear is worth more than it is. Used hi-fi will probably always be a buyers market though.

Noticed Carsales have a system for car pricing that I'm sure helps things sell or on the other hand not sell. "Around Market Price" " Below Market Price" etc. Would help both buyers and sellers realise the value of something.

Great idea, Marc. 👍

The seller can always click the 2nd option!

TBH , I haven’t really experienced that much low balling here , lower offers perhaps, tho there was a guy who lowballed me on something, then tried to explain why I should except his offer and then got snakey when I sold the item to someone else for closer to the price , claiming he had first dibs ,wtf 😂

We are already experimenting with this. If all goes to plan, at Ad Creation a suggested price bracket will be made - it's only advisory of course.
Then on the live ad, we will show a similar advisory on the price vs typical market price.

At the end of the day, our policy here has never waivered - The Seller retains the right to sell to whomever they choose.

Nice 👍🏼

Once upon a time..........lowballers bothered me intensely, but I eventually , I realised that type of person was a type of beacon, which illuminated the fact that the other 98% of members were good people and that in every society, group or community the contrast is stark.

I arrived at a point in my thought process where I actually felt sorry for them because it was the only way they could feel even slightly in control of their world.

Lowballing someone is really a form of narcissism so ,of late, I just refuse to feed their appetite and silence really can be golden as a defence against these types, so my "poll" choice is polite ignore.

However..........( and you guys knew there would be a however ) I often see the same seller listing the same product, at the same price, for months on end and despite the fact that pricing is their business and none of mine, I often feel like ( politely ) contacting them with a reminder that if it didn't sell for the asking price in March, then it most likely won't sell in November at the original price, especially when an almost identical product is currently listed at a 20% lower price by another member.

I obviously won't name any names or a product ,but until recently there were two listings for the same brand speakers, with the same model and the same age/condition.

One was listed seven or eight times and remained unsold and an identical pair were $400 less from another member and they sold after two listings.

Go figure.

I won't take up your time elevating this into a diatribe about flippers but I think that Karma can be painful.

Merry Christmas to everybody!

During the Repost process, sellers are reminded/encouraged to consider lowering their price. Of course, the price is up to them and many choose to ignore that suggestion.

Oops I think I’ve misunderstood 😳😊

I have no issue for an offer on something especially if not priced accordingly.....for the item being sold, second hand and/or the overall condition its in, but when its already a great price/bargain.... imo, as quoted by Marc previously,

An excellent point mate. ( As usual )😃

I have, at times, made offers on things listed here but I also know how to make a sensible offer, bearing in mind that the seller is almost always a valued and trusted member.

If, I do make an offer , I have a "10% rule" or a "round down" which has worked for me over decades of buying and selling

I don't think I've ever really had a lowball offer. Maybe you all just need to change your avatar to StereoNET and your username to Administrator? 🤣

Try selling something on Gumtree, you'll find out all about it 🤣

Oh 100%. And that's why I think our Classifieds should be celebrated. I have sold on Gumtree, eBay and Marketplace and it's the absolute worst!

I sell things on Gumtree occasionally, and if someone offers less than half of the asking price I just ignore/mute them. Between half and full price, I try to negotiate. Can't speak for eBay, because I'm no longer able to sell there. Years ago I used to do so, into my PayPal account. I recently tried to set up a new eBay seller account and they now need bank login details, and won't accept PayPal for a new seller account, so that's a hard no from me. Anyway, getting off-topic...

As for Stereonet's classifieds, I've had only positive experiences so far, both as a buyer and seller (in my old and new account).

I love the lowballers
