OK, I realize it is Tuesday but there are extenuating circumstances.   I happened across one of my contacts in local government this afternoon and he told me that a (brace yourselves, this is nasty) local FIRE BAN  was likely to be put in place tomorrow.

Well, what options did I have?   I had to move the weekly fire forward to tonight.

And so I did.

It was pretty good too, despite the rush.

I really hope this ban doesn't last for too long.   It is likely to put a crimp in my mid week social life if it does.

Cheers Everybody.  Here's hoping your fridges are cold and your local environment is humid-to-damp!  (unlike mine, which is dry and warm and a little too run-a-way-fire friendly for it's own good)

It's a sad, sad Wednesday.  The FIRE BAN continues.

We've adapted,

PXL_20251008_solarfire.thumb.jpg.b9cb3073ec91eddc4a7adad23af9c0d3.jpg

It isn't quite the same.

But we have to hang in there.  One day there will be fire once again.  And that day, it will be glorious!

This fire ban hasn't been easy on the local wildlife though.  Ozzy is all lost.

He's prowling the front lawn, and I've been telling him right from the start that the ants are out the back.  He's taking this fire ban pretty hard, it's got him all disorientated.

Cranberry however is doing well.  For more than a week now he's been seen walking though my yard from west to east each afternoon.  I'm west of town, so I think that means he's gotten himself a job and when I see him he's heading home for the evening.  Nicely done mate, that can't have been easy.

A train of 4 Kangaroos jumped through the fire site just before dusk too, I was too slow to get a pic (damnit!) but Buster wasn't with them.  I hope he's OK, it's been a while since I've seen the big guy.

Happy mid-week Everybody!

Happy Wednesday evening midweek drinkers!  (and just in case you missed it in the post above, I live east of town, not west, just in case anyone was going out of their mind trying to make sense of my previous post)

I present to you some pictures from last week (because I forgot to take my phone with me this week).

The time before fire.

The time of fire.

Oh yeah, now we're talking!

The time when I was forced to wonder who drank my beer.

And the time that it just seemed like sitting back and watching the jetstream was a great idea.

There was a new visitor to the fire this evening (yes, I know it's early in the week, but we had visitors so the schedule had to be altered to suit). As is customary with the naming of new animals in a fire pit setting I offered the honor to the visiting couple (to the guests go the naming rites). They didn't seem to really understand the gravity of the situation at first, but they put their heads together and came up with a name. And so it was that PeeWee the Pigeon has been entered into the Book of the Fire Pit.

He (or she, not really up on the sexual differentiation of avians) is a Tawny Frogmouth Owl (not really an owl, but colloquially known as such) and they decided to drop in for a chat and a quick feed (at least two creatures of questionable identification were swooped upon and devoured before PeeWee decided to move on).

It's always cool to make a new friend down at the fire pit.

I always said the place would go to the ducks one day, and now it has.

Last week a decent sized branch from a gum next door decided to succumb to gravity and aim for my garden shed, and then it missed.

So, obviously, I turned it into firewood.

However... In a truly horrendous turn of events. Rain is forecast for the rest of the week.

Not!

Happy!

Jan!

Awesome thread, I have recently moved from the northern suburbs of Adelaide to a small town of 200 folk called Booborowie, just off the Goyder Highway'

we have a total fire ban until April, but we have a firepit in the back yard, looking forwars to using it when friends come over.
