Will be interested in what you think Al.

Thanks Joz, will do.

 ok Al, that's enough time for about 6 movies to have been watched...what's the verdict? :D

no chance …been very busy today…will post some early impressions shortly…just operational things…conclusions sonically will have to wait quite a while :)

Hi Al,

Just a quick question, how do you integrate your second sub for music? I assume you run the software from the receiver for movies and that integrates the sub(s) at that stage. However, for music you have a separate set up, did you do it just via the phase and LPF settings on the sub? Or do you have EQ software on the Velo's?

hi roh,

posted back her for mr Gs benefit who asked the same question,

I know you are in melb, am a bit time poor at the present but am sure we can arrange when have the spare time to pop over and experience, and can explain in depth and show you how gone about it and result you get. one am quite pleased with and run some years :)

:party ooh an invite to see the Divas!

I'm pretty time poor too with a little bub, but would love have a listen/walk through your system.

I'll go read the post now :thumb:

Yes, I see you are using the EQ in-built in the Velo's.

I'm (for the medium term) will be getting one sub, ideally which can cope with two inputs one from my HT (ARC can do the EQ for that) and the other input from my integrated Amp.

...now to find the sub that fits the task  :) and the budget

well one thing's for sure, I won't ever buy those kiddy locks your wife has put on the cabinets, it hasn't controlled your spending one single bit...

Lol. Always interesting to see and read about your additions Al.

seems to have gone completely unnoticed so far

Just saw this latest addition to your stable @ :) al - she's certainly "different" looks wise but it's what is inside that counts and all looks very tidy.

Crikey, you certainly didn't slack off on sourcing / extracting the full benefits of one of these - I can see a need for you to bring it over to evil Springs for a DAC demo!  :D

Gday Al,

I know this is a n000b question.

how does it sound with your babes toe-ed in?

Per moi siggy below, my room is a tad of an L shape like yours (but your seating arrangement lets you sit closer, and my L shape is on the opposite side to yours) - I always find not toeing in me speakers makes them music sound weird.

thoughts?

hi wilco...actually pics re deceiving it isn't actually an L shape at all...

a large squarish room with a couple of pillars that give impression of an L shape. my system is offset with my sub on the right sitting in the front mid centre of room to give idea...whcih works out ideal sub placement wise I found out :)

re toe in....I feel something to be used sparingly...

too much and you collapse the width of the sound stage and can also constrain it.

with the divas its something have played around with a tad. and dont feel in this setting its necessary or needed. the image beautifully rock solid centre. amazingly well actually and the toeing them in does nothing bar narrow the soundstage. so dont bother.

my stand mounts in my bedroom system for instance I use a touch of toe in...here they point to a space some 1m back behind main listening position so speakers aimed at spots say 300-600mm either sides or ears. its something easily played with to find what best works.

toe in is usefull where maybe a bit of width between speakers and the central imaging is a bit vague...

can also be usefull for speakers where dont necessarily have a wide dispersion tweeter. which isn't the case with the inverted beryllium utopia tweeter the divas run which are a pretty wide dispersion design.

firstly. i remember reading your reply without your name change. got me for a sec. thought i must have dreamt up your reply  :hiccup

secondly, haha that line above went right over my incapable pea brain of mine. but sure. I only have standard minion state of the art aluminum tweeters. high tech stuff that.

the width of your fronts look roughly the same as mine, however mine is more of a rectangular longish room, with hard surfaces and zero rugs. my seating position is around 4m from the front. no doubt more exploring to do, I have. i do wish i had carpets though, but we have ocd dust issues, so carpets are not an option in our home.

like your couches, nice and homely.

thank you, the focals thrive on a well balanced room...ie good mix of absorbing vs defusing i.e. hard vs soft furnishings ...so something to keep in mind...ive followed focals recommendations here pretty closely so hopefully giving my Divas the best chance to do their thing :)

Very nice setup al, did you get rid of the A5 CD player....?

sold a while back, a lovely player I owned for about 10 years and was like new when sold it to a lucky fellow whom was chasing the magical sound the player capable off. good luck finding one, they were a limited run with the mil spec miniature tubes and I dont think the standard market variety tubes they reverted to in later player was the same.

Have you done a review on the M8500s?,I read the review on the M8pre and very nice job.

no never did a review as such I dont remember, its  gorgeous amp, I never feel it lives my speakers undernourished and works in well in the system. perfect match for the pre.

He was lucky, I have a chance to grab the M6pre/prx at my local dealer going down on monday to demo it, so hopibg to get them and I guess I'll have to buy the none tube m6si cd player to go with it.
