Yep, take advantage of that awesome service while you can, may not be there forever.

Hi Al,

Just stopped by for a quick oogle at your set up again and to see how it's morphing over the years :)

Quick question - you have multiple sources LP, CD, Streamer? + Movies (& more) how do you integrate all of them at the same time? Or do you have to do some cable switching for certain listening?

hi roh. really easily at the press of a button :)

the key is the 2ch pre analog pre amp with ht bypass, I use the musical fidelity m8 pre. and it has a ht bypass... which you select by hitting the htbyapss button on the remote....

imageproxy.php-26.jpeg

in above it is in 2ch mode with a 2ch source feeding...

hit the htbyapss button and it switches to HT mode... in essence what happens then is the htbyapss feature bypasses the 2ch pre altogether routing the L&R channel from AV system straight through to the stereo power amp that drives the mains.

imageproxy.php-34.jpeg

as far as sources go. all my 2ch sources are connected to my 2ch pre here. all my av sources to my av processor on the AV side of things. so pretty simple clean and neat. two discrete systems and the 2ch analog pre with htbypass switches between them ....

hope makes sense :) ask me to clarify if some aspect is unclear.

oh - oh ! watching last night hear some pops and a rushing noise from one of the Velodyne DD15s.... a sign of old age sadly... fortunately it is a known aspect as these subs get older...good things like this should never die ! and very fortunately they are supported out the US, with a set cost $240 turnaround. with usually just a recap of the subs plate amp needed. Hopefully nothing else but I guess 14 years out of a classD plate amp on these is good going.... logged a service ticket last night and promptly got a work order and notice to ship. so will get off to the post in the morning.

so this morning pulled sub out...

wow nearly 3 months later ! we have a sub amp thats fully refurbed and repaired. both the pre amp and power amp stages needed repair and re capping ! price stayed the same as qouted. looks like $80us to get back from us (ouch). Seeing how long it took to get there !  due to covid, be interesting how long to get back ! hopefully once plate amp is back theres nothing else (fingers crossed) can't wait to get back.

Really pleased today with this turn up  :D

IMG_1435.jpeg

Yes the sub amp is finally back for the VeloDD and all refurbed and good as new ! couldn't wait to hook it up !

IMG_1436.jpeg

and then of course couldn't find any of the screws to attach the sub amp plate securely ...I'd put those of course away safely :D finally found them taped in a bag to the sub remote... of course makes total sense hehe

Was even more excited to plug the sub into power and see its blue light come on :D it lives !

IMG_1437.jpeg

great to then check out a movie briefly ! oh yes we are back ...in full strength ! how good does this feel :D

now just to hope the other subs amp can last through covid. so if does go can do a quick trip back from across the pond.... :) *fingers crossed*

That's awesome news Al. If mine ever dies i know what to do now. I need to buy another dd15 for my theater room, they are great subs.

amazing things Alan. I am sure glad this one could be resurrected ! yeah why not double the goodness ! :) there was a DD15 actually pop up north where you are but was soon gone with being in good nick :)

and yes good to know these things can be kept to keep going on ...velodyne themselves are restablishing. with Monsignor who replied when i messaged velodyne support said they actually still have all parts and provide service for things too. could send me an entire new amp or bits ! which is fantastic ! also have appointed a local agent now... and now see velodyne DD+ adds popping up here too constantly so no doubt that side also now cranking up hehe

as subwoofers these are amazing pieces of engineering so good continued on...

Definitely a good thing to know that they are continuing to go forward. Was some doubt there for a while but all worked out good for us dd owners. Will def get another at some stage. Mine was stuck on P3 every time I started it up for months, although it still worked,I could not get rid of the P3. Then one day I turned it on and the problem disappeared. That was the only issue I have ever had with mine and it has worked tirelessly and flawlessly ever since.Must have been a remote control issue but all good now.Glad it all worked out for you mate and hope you are keeping safe  from covid

upgraded the brains and the muscles behind the av side in new av processor in a marantz av10 and 16 channel power amp in the marantz amp 10 :)

also upped the speakers... with new additions in a couple of very humble Focal Dome Flax ... for front Left and Right Wides....  which seem to have integrated surprisingly  well with the rest of speaker set, to add some width literally to front stage and have working in well for  pans across front stage and to pans across to rest of speaker set :)

thank you ! for your help in the change over as well :)

ps as per suggestion picked up a couple of ac infinity quest fans from selby for insurance policy on the amp 10 ...so it now runs cool :D will add another single on top of the av10 again just for insurance and daisy chain of the av10s usb port... has worked out well, and gives peace of mind with keeping things cool in the system :)

Part of this move was also saying bye to two stalwarts of my system over the years ... and we are talking nearly 20 years ownership with the brand in Elektra and theatre multichannel amps . it was a difficult decision to make in seeing the theatre HDs go. Still a lot of respect for the brand and product. for the money and even at twice what they go for, i don't think in multichannel there is much to compare with from overseas. in build fit finish, quality of sound and character.... and they left for their new owners, with their tails up and heads held high  :)

happy through with move to the amp10 this thing is a very serious beast indeed ! 16 channels so more than twice channels of both my prior amps combined ! ...built so well, marantz hasn't as they have done in past with multichannel amps just taken avr amps and popped in a seperate case for convenience... instead here they have take their 2ch amp modules from their top end 2ch amps and added 8 of those 2ch modules to make the 16 channels that makes up this amp...

025A0589.thumb.JPG.2934f02082c9af6af67523dcc71f5f2c.JPG

like the av10 this thing is pretty beefy ! :D  has also meant i can tidy up the birds nest behind the rack some. right now have some unto 3m long cables behind there with the twin amps had before.. will be able to reduce that way down to 0.7 to 1m XLRs that's all i need now and also pull back the speaker cables so come in neatly where needed... looking forward to doing this as a future weekends work :)

pleased with the sound of the new av processor and amp combo... its refined, clean, clear and dynamic with just a hint of warmth. the re calibration has gone well with everything integrating nicely with bass / sub bass not over powering either more there in presence but not calling to itself. We've been enjoying a few movies over the weekend in La La Land which was just delightful and then on the other hand 'train to busan' which was frenetic in the zombie apocalyptic movie it is :) very pleased with the move so far :)

wish i could buy as spare, be devastated if my Diva's gave up ghost for some reason... the replacement cost of focal utopia has gone up significantly with cheapest utopia floor stander being the Scala Utopia that sells for $80k ! 😮
