I don't know what happened ...

+1 for Nerada, Phantom.  It's been my staple for 10? years.  (Leaf tea, of course. ;) )

  • As you are in Melbourne I am not sure where the good tea shops might be but I am positive they would be plentiful.   TBH, great tea really does not require any great expenditure on equipment, beyond

    Super Mustud

I think that Aldi has a flavour like that.

I grew up in an Italian family and consequently the aroma of freshly ground coffee and espresso was always present. Not withstanding that I never acquired tha taste for it and drank Nescafe or various other concoctions. When I visited the rellos in Italy , the looks I got when i asked for instant coffee was priceless. They absolutely refused to believe anyone would drink that muck. So they turned me onto espresso which i drink to this day (20 years later). In the evenings I still drink the odd cup of instant muck as Espresso is good at keeping me up at night. I also enjoy a nice pot of tea which I can thank my Scottish ex wife for as she absolutely loved tea. I would make her 5 to 6 cups a day. Recently I actually had my first taste of Pod coffee and it was quite good (Aldi Brand/ Abruzzo Blend)

Does the timing roughly coincide with your latest effort to quit smoking...?

Tastebuds change, cravings change and nothing will affect those more than giving up something like smoking.

not sure if you are asking me Wol, but I have never partaken in that dreadful habit

Of course :)

Gordon .. a yearly checkup once you're over 35?  Wow!  What does this "checkup" consist of:

  • manual prostate check?
  • ECG stress test?
  • 10 different blood tests (kidney function, liver function, sugar level, ...)?

Sounds like a recipe for the doctor to make money! :P

Wow, go and glue some speaker cabinets together and look what happens :)

Spyne - no this feeling precedes the smoking kick (doing reasonably well all things considered). Actually though, it was around the same time I started regular exercise though. Don't see how there could be a connection though.

T2 - I'll check there store out. I need to try something good, to compare to the supermarket bought bags.

French Earle Grey is a favourite from T2.

But you should try roasting beans before you start selling espresso machines.

Cheers,

Steve

No I won't sell yet. It's as much a visual delight in our kitchen, as much as what I used to produce with it regularly :)

Nope. I have tried the Aldi pod coffee and I am not a fan. Many do like it, though.

No, what I was going to suggest to Marc is to try some of the fine Chinese teas. A really good Oolong, a refreshing Jasmine, an exotic Puer. These are teas you cannot find in a supermarket and you must instead invest time in finding specialist suppliers. I get mine from a particular shop in Hong Kong that I used to go to when I lived there. He also sells on the internet so that makes it easy once you understand the varieties of teas and vintages available.

Oh I do hope Marc, the tea is real tea from a brewed pot old chap.

Nerada is our tea of choice.

Nope, sadly. I'm as new to tea, as a nescafe blend43 drinker is blind to good coffee.

I had to go from drinking a litre of soft drink a day to good ol plain water,  reason, high sugar level but non diabetic, also blood test indicate a fatty liver.  I can’t even drink soft drinks even if it was shoved in my face!  I have one coffee in the morning and thats it.

I learnt all about tea from my brother-in-law each time i go to China , there are some Chinese green tea that is superb,  bought a stack of stuff and all was passable at customs however avoid the stuff thats tourist grade.

The problem I find with the Aldi machine (even with better capsules than the Aldi supplied), is it's actually "acceptable" when new, but quickly builds up internally with oils etc. From there on, no matter how well you clean it and do the self-rinse, it never comes back to that clean taste it had when new. I've noticed this on quite a few family members Aldi machines (come to think of it, they all have them).

That is interesting. My experience with Nespresso machines is exactly the opposite. We currently have 3 Nespresso Pro machines and I do not know if what we have found would be the same with the domestic models, however I find that the coffee for the first 10 days or so is not quite right. After that the machine has settled down. Confirmed this again with a new machine we got a couple of months ago.

I am very happy with our new Nespresso Zenius machine. I might make a post or two about Nespresso one of these days, just haven't got around to it yet...

Nespresso machine is different. That seems to have a good cleaning cycle and I "think" you can manually do a full clean. My experience was relating to the Aldi one.
I bought it the day they came out - and it lasted 3 months before I couldn't stand it. I certainly don't hate Nespresso though.

That's OK, although I don't mind it if people say they hate Nespresso. It is a bit like audio fans saying they hate Bose. Best to see my comments supporting Nespresso as really proxy posts supporting Bose. I am just not brave enough to support Bose without that subterfuge.

Mustud did not get to be an old man by being brave.

Marc, I'm sure that you are being poisoned, call the Police :)

Does the coffee have a bitter taste and smell like almonds?

It could be that Kopi Luwak coffee he drank.

Must be lots of people contributing to SNA after selling gear, then.

perhaps they separated the beans from the poo but gave Marc the wrong bag?

It's a distinct possibility!

Yes, good point. He might be buying the wrong thing altogether with his newly acquired tastes ; )
