I think last time it was a case of too many changes at once (the software upgrade brought with it core functionality changes and a slightly new look). The Ranks was just a bit too much at the time, and I believe, IIRC, thousands of notifications were being sent/received too as a result.

I must confess to some doubt about whether the system is actually working. Since the count stalled yesterday, every single post I make adds so rapidly to my progress that I can't help wonder about the tens of thousands of posts that others have under their belt.

 

Makes me think some of my elders and betters should easily be at rank 10+ by now. 

I'm all for the concept just I think others should be waaaaay further ahead than me 😃🙏

Presumably the algorithm isn’t able to cope with the addition of liking posts at some point in history.  Many elder statesmen made a lot of their posts before this time.

Ok so if the Rank counting turns out to be valid then I'll float another theory - that there may be a 'decay' built into the system, such that recent activity counts more than historical?

IMO a post 10 years before I even joined is just as valuable as a post made today and any 'recency' effect should be disabled if that is a factor.

Exhibit A:  Tonight I am holding the 

rank as @Marc and that just can't be correct.

I reckon its due to some drivel I have just posted tonight under the guiding influence of a few reds. I am categorically not a "one percenter" (a marvellous chap notwithstanding) 😀😀

I share this opinion. I think I need to hit the button to recount all members posts/achievements. 
I may start this process today, and turn achievements notifications off while the rebuild takes place (the system estimates 2-3 day process).

A year or so ago, I went through and cleared out the database. Over 200,000 very inactive accounts were removed. It was a bit sad to see under 100,000 members again, but at least it's more reflective of the actual memberbase now.

With an average of 19 post's a year, I'm going to be the forever newbie 🤣
