mpearce38 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 (edited) here is what i have, not sure what they are worth individually as bought them as part of a kit from GR research so fee free to make an offer if anything can be of use for your project. they have never been used but were placed on a board as a trial to help position the components so some were soldiered in place and since unsoldiered and trimmed The sonicaps are Gen 2 expect for the one labeled Gen 1 of course Mills resistors Erse X Pluse Edited October 30, 2013 by mpearce38
henry218 Posted October 30, 2013 Author Posted October 30, 2013 hi mpearce, i wonder why all the leads are very short, as its too short for me as i need to put on top of my cap, sorry for that. cheers henry
mpearce38 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 hi Henry, No probs, like I said some where soldered in place so I trimed them when removing them from the board
henry218 Posted October 30, 2013 Author Posted October 30, 2013 ah right, didnt realised that on your previous post. this will be suitable for pcb passive which GR kit that you use? i always wonder how they sound
mpearce38 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Was a kit for Usher BE - 718 made a dramatic improvement over the stock crossovers. rather then just a component swap was a complete redesign.
henry218 Posted October 30, 2013 Author Posted October 30, 2013 i see, im assuming you change to better caps already
damohpi Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 I've got a heap of caps that I no longer have a use for, Ampohm, Sonicap, Obbligato, etc, I'll make a list over the weekend and PM
henry218 Posted November 1, 2013 Author Posted November 1, 2013 hi damophi, thanks, will check your list definitely . im interested with larger values also. cheers henry
brenden Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 Hi Henry ,if you are looking to place a bypass cap across the crossover caps I would probably only use a .01 . This will improve the sound without upsetting the balance . By all means try a larger one ,but if you encounter an unbalanced sound in the frequencies ,then drop back to .01 or .02.,
henry218 Posted November 1, 2013 Author Posted November 1, 2013 hi brenden, thanks for the input, as this is for the high pass midrange the cap is 82uf the bigger values actually for tweeter, i may experiment with claritycap sa 3.9uf to mix with better caps to make it up to 4.7-5.6uf. cheers henry
TLL Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Hi Henry I should some left over from my previous crossover project, they are ClarityCap, ESA range 1 2 x 100uF ESA 2. 2x 22uF ESA 3. 2x10uF ESA 4. 2x10uF PX range and some smaller values, need to check my "junk" box shan
henry218 Posted November 2, 2013 Author Posted November 2, 2013 Hi TLL, thanks for the offer, i have not tried the ESA, but from SA i can get a feel that its too warm for me and less spacious. it may not be suitable for what im after, and its abit expensive just to experiment cheers henry
TLL Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Hi Henry They are not expensive, I bought from here http://www.falconacoustics.co.uk/alcap-claritycap-solen-audio-capacitors/claritycap-capacitors-esa-250v.html Really good value, had tried auricap, obligat, I found the claritycap suite me better and cheaper. The hovland are very musical caps, if budget allowed, these are the caps to buy. shan
henry218 Posted November 2, 2013 Author Posted November 2, 2013 hi TLL, thanks for the link, interesting. what drivers did you use? cheers henry
TLL Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Duntech sovereign which has 7 dyaudio drivers on each side, I replaced all the resistors with mox type and the solen caps with claritycap ESA. The only solen caps I didnt replaced were 2x50uF from each channel used in the woofers section. As there are a lot of caps to get replaced, the claritycap was the best value options compared to the others in your list. Most of the caps in your list were only available in higher vdc rating, so quite expensive compared to ClarityCap which were rated at 250vdc. falcon.uk sells these caps at a very good price, (compared to partsconnexion), I bought some px range from US before I found this uk site. So worth a try, you could buy directly from them, I bought more than I needed so to "perfectly" matched the cap values. cheers shan
