Have been eyeing that Bunnahabhain off since you recommended it...with a long name to rival the 85 character Kiwi Town...the longer the better, it must be good!?!

Have been waiting for your tasting comments...but then I see it's an Islay type whisky which means it's peat tainted?!? So maybe I'll pass...

Tainted is a little strong mate 😂

absolutely get that it's not for everyone. But I tell you what, you could be missing out! Provided it's a good drop, it can be very pleasant.

Aberlour A'Bunadh.   By the time it's diluted with a little water to get it down to standard drinking proof it's very close to your limit; and to my taste it's one of the best.

  • My oath that is a thumper! But bit of a struggle to get it for less than a hunned dollars... This one I recommend...it's under$...even in the ABV...around 40%...slight peaty bouquet...easy quaffi

  • https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_1085/glenmorangie-the-original-scotch-whisky-700ml One of the best easy drinking under $100 whisky out there.  Neo

I'm pretty sure it's not peated, just like the 12yo I have. They do make a peated one

I can confirm the bunna  stiuireadair is slightly peated

Where did you get confirmation from regards peat smoked? Bunna website lists nothing regards peat smoke...

you are right, not written anywhere. but i am having a dram as i am writing this.. the caramel and fruitiness is the dominant taste of this scotch. this is followed by sea brine and spice as the less dominant  pieces. but I still do taste a slight tint of smokiness in it. i must stress, slight. on a side note, it really is like drinking a fruit cake - a very tasty one :)

Slight smoke is very common in non peated whisky, generally comes from cask influence, such as barrel wood type, barrel char type and from the previous liquid stored in the barrel, all has influence on smoke picked up on the nose and pallet.

Bunnahabhain is known for making both non peated and peated Scotch Whisky. 👍

I notice that one of the majors (Liquorland here in WA)  has Dimple 12yo at $40 at the moment.  At that price its also a worthy contender for a daily tipple.  Will definitely be worth comparing to Johnnie Black.

My everyday Scotch is... a Bourbon. I always liked Scottish whisky matured in bourbon casks, such as Springbank 10yr of Kilkerran 12yr. As much as I like them, they are a bit on the pricey side for everyday consumption. That's why I recently started investigating some Bourbons. I found that Wild Turkey 101 offers great value for money for this Scotch enthusiast.

 Hi @jgunner

Bought a bottle of this from DMs's member special...$78 total!

https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_819607/bunnahabhain-stiuireadair-whisky-700ml

Agree that their is a slight tint of smoke...very slight...not unpleasant at all to a 'peat' avoider like myself...it's light in colour.

This is a high octane sniffta with a noticeable back burn...with very slight wafts of dried fruit...peach perhaps...it's worth exploring at $78 a bottle..

I like that it is $78 per bottle for a DM member. Definitely one to quaff when trying to extend the life of your more expensive good 'uns! :)

Hoo! That sounds like a plan. But who would hold such a booze fest? I could provide a dozen tasting glasses along with the requisite 3 bottles.

I have the 3 bottles drunk by the time I got to the Mornington Peninsula! Nice thinking though.

Good ol' Aldi with a little whisky for Father Day...

Bought this one for $45...
