an update to Frankn system

You have more technical knowledge than I do.  I might be able to tell you what it costs, and a bit of technobable, but nothing worth relying on I am afraid.

I am a $'s man, not an ohms/volts/watts/amps person.

ps  we have gas available at Norwood - i suspect you don't at Belair.  Pity - you can't beat a mains-gas plumbed BBQ weber.  Ours never runs out of fuel!

  • Got the tt up to a decent height now. The pillars and tubular metals have all been filled with either expanding foam or that + blast grit to dampen unwanted resonance.  Perhaps a better set of feet

hmmmm just listening to Talking Heads Burning Down the House, running the 1400 + Lenehan cables..... dont remember it sounding this good before. Will have to make a serious comparison between the 850 & 1400 in the next few weeks. The system has been playing music for about 24hrs continously (running in) - wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Welcome to the Hills, Frank!

I used to visit on Gloucester Ave, and almost bought an old place on Short St.

As you know, now I'm only 2 postcodes away in 5050

Once we are settled in it will be easy to visit each other then

A very short distance as the crow flys between 5050 and 5052 - a very long distance by bitumen.

I suspect FrankN on his (off-road) pushbike could easily beat someone in a car driving from FrankN's to Greg's.

If you keep the Beast Running continuously you may well be "Burning Down the House" ;)

Added a couple of small items today. Marantz SA-11S1 (not so small) and a CA Smart Syncro power generator to the TT. Both units are solidly built. The Syncro was a fiddley thing to adjust to get TT speeds right. A tiny flat blade screwdriver to turn recessed pots wasn't the best. Got there in the end though.

The sounds from the TT are all good as are the SACD's. Part of this is also due I think to the 1400 and the Lenehan ribbon cables

I'm thinking of a Sutherland's Timeline TT weight and speed check system for the easiest TT speed qc - possibly a Xmas pressie for the new room, along with rugs and room treatments. Next year will be fun, I will also have a serious go with the DEQX that's sitting in the cupboard

Very nice choice in CDP, any pics of the room set up?

Okay, starting to put together ideas for the new room. Basic ideas as per pictures below. Rug is 4m long by 3 m wide. Speakers and amp(s) on separate circuit, outlets on far wall. Bass traps would be in corners. I'm thinking of EXPEDIT boxes on either side for albums. Then Tt/pre-amps/CD/SACD on left wall almost opposite seating position on a separate circuit.

Any thoughts?

Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Yeah, Frank.  My initial thoughts are that the rug looks just great (far better than anything I could find when I was looking) and the proposed layout seems logical and likely to work well.  Gee, I bet it's fun putting it all together in a fabulous new listening room in the new house. :thumb:

My only suggestion is not to rush things.  Try different options as you go and don't be too hasty in settling for the final layout.

And, most of all, take time to enjoy every phase of this exciting new adventure. :)

Hey Frank

The room looks a better fit then I expected.Once you set up and have a good listen you can get on with some tweaks.Hope to catch up after this hot spell.

Thank you gentlemen for your kind words. I'm a little worried about the ceiling height but I'll take my time as you say Tony and see how things move along. I'm sure I'm going to need room treatments here. Waiting for the electrician to complete his work is frustrating as I cannot unpack stuff ATM. Good things come to those who wait though. I'll ask a few ppl over for comments, ideas as I move along

Couple of pictures to show what I'm contemplating. Getting a few bits in possible positions. The cabinet on the right looking towards the rear may have to move on as it is a bit too big in my opinion. Need something very sturdy / solid for the CA TT (in box on cabinet) any ideas ? Kminus ?? Or one of those fancy spider racks from Krispy??

Ah well lots to contemplate

Looking good there Frank!

Good luck with the setting up! :)

I have done some wall/corners/ceiling mods with acoustic insulation panels and foam tiles, and you are more than welcome to

pop over and see what you think, I believe my system improved a huge amount over the untreated room.

cheers

Looks good, Frank, very neat and tidy. I have three separate rooms/systems here and the best description for them, especially the front room, would be busy by comparison to yours! :D

Cheers,

Keith

Looking good Frank!

Can't wait to hear it set up in the new abode....

Very professional .

The abode being Castle Wolffranknstein..................

Yeah, listening chairs should be red. :thumb:   But you will need more than one. :(

Anyway, real progress is being made and it's all looking great. :)   From the photo, the cabinet on the right looks fine - if it does the job, why be in a hurry to change it?

Nice Frank! I like the use of the record shelving! :thumb:

Thank' s gents. Tony I agree that I need another chair or two, I found some that are very similar to yours, phew ya need some cash though! The bits down that side are feeling a bit "cramped" ATM. Perhaps the quasi spider rack needs repositioning? The main thought I'm playing with is about the TT, I might simply put a solid shelf in as that wall is a double brick load bearing wall sheeted with gyprock. Then perhaps use a Symposium anti-vibe unit + rollers? Dunno still musing. I'm hoping to get a cep/SACD player hooked up mid week and see how everything sounds

Yes Stump, I quite like the gloss coloured Expedit shelving, certainly better than the standard wood veneer or simple white

Haha, thank you DL........

I'm looking forward to catching up again, if you wouldn't mind can you let me know what shelving you chose for your TT?

I need to drop by your abode to see and hear the upgrades you have put in place.

Take care, and as always we enjoy the music
