Got some new "ears" today, can't get the colour balance correct on the camera but you get the idea. Will be playing around for a few days, then have to get someone over to tell me what I'm doing wrong!!

Hi Keith,

Yes 2905's. They are large speakers, I'll be playing around for a several days I think. No-one else in the house cares much for SQ so I will start by roping in my son to help me move them, then have to get some SNA'rs over to advise / fine tune the position. I have some anti-cable connections arriving soon so will also see if cables make any difference.

So, do I assume you were the "interested customer" that Steve told me about at Challenge?

I'm considering the Canterburys.

Hi Ted,

Yup that is me. Steve also mentioned that you were looking at the Canterbury's. I think you'd need to add an extension on to the listening room for those "puppys"! I'm sure they would sound magnificent.

Hi Gregg,

Yup, best sonic improvement I've made in years LOL. Will get a "proper" rack this week I think. Haven't yet got the landlord to rewire the house, install the personal nuclear plant but I have ordered some "anti-cables" - so we can see what difference speaker cables / cd-pre inconnects might make. Might try to get a pair of Kimber speaker cables on loan. Can't think what 10m pre-amp to power amp interconnects might be worth playing with. Ideas anyone - I'm using Klotz professional microphone cable. Many people say the ME gear is not as cable "fussy" as other equipment, particularly pre-to-amp

Looks good Frank, I see the amp rack is still in place :-)

Looks great Frank. Very happy with my Kimber cable (although I'd probably be happy with any cables). What are the dimensions of your room?

Congrats Frankn on your new rig; the Quads are very nice speakers & that is a nice deck also :P Look forward to seeing how your system develops!

Cheers,

went from laid-back jazz / acoustic music to some Paul Simon and Talking Heads tonight - this system is coming alive... moved some furniture around, got more space behind the speakers - bass is tight, loud and she rocks, good balance, dynamics are there. Soundstage is good - moved the speakers nearer the side walls - minimal colouration / no worries about side reflections. These speakers are for keeping I think. No where near stadium volume but I'm not missing it yet.

WAF?? The other half said they sound great at low volume so she is happier

Had a listen to Franks system last night with 3G. Thanks again for your hospitality....

Very pleasant, non fatiguing and musical. Musical notes were cleanly and clearly defined.

I can see why Frank is happy with his purchase - they are very nice speakers!

Yep, beautiful clear and precise midrange and highs with plenty of low end for Franks music taste. Sounding real good now Frank.

:thumb:DL & 3G_ Thankyou for the comments supporting my choice of speakers. It was a pleasant evening and I got to hear some well recorded CD's through my system. Initially played several tracks off Mark's choice of cd's - since he is used to listening to them on his system(which has its own, large thread) so he could get a feel for my system. We also pushed the speaker volume as much as I would ever listen to it - the Quads wern't fussed so I'm very happy. Bass was tight / voluminous, mids and highs didn't break-up and imaging solid. This also showed me (again) the worth of well recorded/engineered music.

I't made me go back and pull out my Chesky cd's (not got many). The Chesky Gold Set-up disk, Track 26 PSALM24 / Westminster choir - the ambiance and the huge organ notes sounded clear as! - they sound a lot better than most of my normal cd's.

LP's sound v.good.

Tricka - they are lovely sounding speakers - my son says they are :nana so what more do I need? These are going to be in the system for years

Congratulations from another 2905 owner!

Oh no! Don't tell me we are going to have to put up with ESL fanboys now. :)

Congrats on the speakers, Frank. :P

Ha ha - yup we have had all other manner of fanboi at SNA- now its the ESL's turn: I think I'll hijack every thread I can and talk ESL's :P

Seriously great to have another SNAer that likes the big panels. I bet those ME's drive them beautifully. Wow - nice TT. It's a beast.

I look forward to your posts.

A couple of additions over the last few months so I thought add some new pic's (sorry about the wobbly Quads & general picture quality)

Gotta admit that the MC is a step-up. Spent about 5hrs getting the setup right but boy was it worth it(I'm generally a neaphite on all this tt fun & games and having already killed two CA Maestro's I was being ultra careful). Things are sounding great, really really good. I can probably squeeze a bit more out but I'm now having too much fun listening to music :hiccup:love:D to worry about it.

The only thing to come next is probably a new tonearm & headshell cables. Tonearm I'm thinking either Silver Audio Breeze or something from KK. Headshell cable I'm not sure? What do most ppl use, VDH, Cardis or does it not matter?

Frank

Hi Datafone - the ESL's have been there for a year or so now.

Benjie you/anyone are always welcome to drop by. I was trying to remember who I lent the book to....cheers for the reminder

DL: no, toyed with the idea as you know but haven't yet bit the bullet. I'd like to take the t-t a bit further 1st. Looking at some SRA isolation units and things atm.

So many possibilities and have to keep Sally on side.

Frank, would you like to try an NFB-2 DAC in your system?

I'll be taking 3 DACs along to Rod's on the12th. If you're going along I can lend you the NFB-2 for a week or so.
