I’ve been looking for a practical lamp, and this looks like a good choice. What version of the Navlinge is this?

It's the larger one that cost's $30. The smaller one isn't practical for a TT.

Decided to go the DIY route for an isolation platform. The usual suspect, butchers block from IKEA. I didn't expect this to be this solid. It's a lot bigger and heftier than the pictures suggest. 4 sorbothane hemispheres from eBay, 1.5inch diameter with a Duro rating of 50 which means it can take a load ranging from 12.5kg to 25kg for a set of 4. Ideal considering my TT weighs about 12kg ish and the butchers block is about 3.3kg.

They are substantial.  There's a thing I call 'internet size'. The size changes IRL.

I'll have to get one or two for my system rebuild.

I had Sorbothane sheet square pieces between TT and Block.

Do you have a link to the ebay balls ?

EDIT: oh you've got a Musichall MMF 7.1 ! Just what I'm going to set up.

Just moved and everything still in boxes.  My NIB 7.2 box seems to have a rattle tho.  A bit concerned.

Thanks for the link. Mmmmm..... lots of options....

Does the Butchers Block benefit even the MMF 7.1 ?

I had them under very 'solid' units before and it worked.

It's still NIB in original box and something is moving when the box is tipped.  Only way to see is to open the box, which I wasn"t going to do until I had somewhere to put it.

Well for $55, it's a small price to pay for peace of mind. I remember reading a review for the MMF7.3 on Stereophile and I think the reviewer said it's 'fussy' about where it sits. I'm not sure what he meant by that but I'm assuming it means it'll do well with a solid/isolated platform.

Excellent set up Cardiiii, a question if you don’t mind, have you back to backed the speakers with and without the Toppers?

cheers,

Terry

Thanks Terry, yes I have. I find it helps with clarity throughout the range, especially on bass. It pretty much refines the sound. I'm assuming what it does is remove any excess energy from the speaker cabinet although I'm fairly sure the ML1s dissipate their energy pretty well to start off with.

what did you notice after putting in the Ikea BB and the Sorbothane?

When I put in the Wyndham Audio isolation platforms, bass was cleaned up considerably.

Word of caution,  I used some Sorbothane pucks, permanently marked the top of my cabinet (and tore of some of the wood grain).  These were larger than yours (designed for Washing machines), so may not do the same.  Just keep an eye out I guess (or place something between them and your cabinet)

you can see the damage under the Transrotor and Soulines in the attached pics.

Setup looks great, Joe.  Nice one mate.

@scuzzii Hey John, I did not do any A/B testing, however the one thing I did notice was previously when I went to change sides I'd see the antiskate swinging a little and now it's dead still. I'd assume that's a good thing.

Also I did notice the sorbothane was super sticky so wouldn't be surprised if it did rip off some of the wood. Didn't think about that!

Been looking for an RCM for a while now and since the Pro Jects are out of stock have been looking at ultrasonic options. Managed to pick up a mint Kirmuss for very little. Also noticed the RRP has gone up from $2000 to $2800 and the seller chucked in a pretty much full 5L bottle of 70% isopropyl alcohol.

So I’ve been itching to do something on the TT front for a while now. I went back and read the review of the MMF 7.3 on Stereophile and noticed something that I probably skimmed over before. I have noticed some distortion on some LPs and in the review the reviewer measured the same in one of those test LPs and went on to suggest that moving the anti skate from the recommended second notch to the first pretty much eliminates any distortion. Guess what, the wise gentleman was correct. I did the same and my TT has not sounded this good before. So for anyone who has a 7.1/7.3, you might want to try this at home.

@Cardiiiii nice one!  The LS100 circuit plays well to tube rolling, lots of fun to be had here.  From my experience  try out the EML mesh 5u4g, it will take it to another level. Only issue was that its a huge tube.  For the signal tubes, Brimar CV1988's, sweet mids, but punchy fast bass.

I picked up the PSVane ones for the signal tube, want to try the Mullard GZ34 as well.

Haha - indeed! @demoiree  I think we might have similar taste in our former tube gear.
