As the question of the future of 4K discs has been raised I will respond, even though the question and my response are arguably off-topic for this thread!

Is there a future for 4K?

With most stores deleting their Blu-Ray section I highly doubt it, it will go the way of Beta and Laserdisc imo

Major retailers of video discs are not deleting their Blu-ray section. They are currently adding a small number of 4K Blu-ray titles, and maintaining their existing very large number of Full HD Blu-ray titles.

I note that Betamax tapes lost the home analogue video tape format war to VHS tapes. Laserdisc technology, quite a step up in resolution, didn't take hold, perhaps because TV screens were too small at the time for the improved quality to be really noticeable.  Later on, DVDs did take hold. And in more recent times, HD-DVD discs lost the home Full HD video format war to Full HD Blu-ray discs.

UHD Blu-ray appears to have no major competitor for domestic use at the moment in terms of a physical format. And an important diffference with the introduction of UHD Blu-ray compared with the introduction of Betamax tape or LaserDisk discs is the backwards compatibility with previous technology. You can play audio CDs, PAL and NTSC DVDs, and Full HD Blu-rays (including 3D Full HD Blu-rays) on a UHD Blu-ray player; albeit that the players are expensive at the moment, which will slow adoption.

In time there may prove to be more popular ways for UHD/4K to be delivered to videophiles in their homes than discs. However, there are still many people who prefer to "own" a movie in the form of a disc they can hold in their hand, rather than just watching it streamed live off the internet, or played back from a licensed download to a hard disc.

What stores are deleting their Blu-Ray section?

Miata, I was a little surprised at PLG1962's comment too.  Full HD Blu-ray has become entrenched, with a huge amount of shelf space devoted to it by the major bricks and mortar disc retailers such as JB Hi-Fi.

The only stores I can think of that stock DVD discs but not Blu-ray discs are those that offer very few titles anyway, such as Coles and Woolworths supermarkets. (Although I see that even Woolworths supermarkets have one Blu-ray title on sale at the moment.)

However as many people have observed, 4K may prove to be a hard sell. You need a darkened room to fully appreciate HDR. And the visible resolution of Full HD Blu-ray, even when viewed on today's 65" home TV screens, is not at all bad.

You were misleading people about the price it is here. People might like to know that before purchasing and it's not the first time you've done it.

You also stated that if someone wanted to buy it off amazon then it would cost them $70 which is not true. It's not even close as they could actually get it for $29 brand new including postage.

thanks for your diligence and willingness to speak up, duke

he was originally protected by the "no comment on sales" rule, but it seems he tried it once too often

Is this actually a rule? I can't find any reference to it (and I agree it enforcement detracts from this sites credibility.)
