The Abyss on 4K uhd blu-ray

The Abyss 4k uhd blu-ray turned up today. watching it now ! 

 

wow this is plain amazing what they have pulled off here. for something thats a VHS era movie ! goodness !  Jame cameron has done an amazing job in its restoration !

so enjoyed this .... i cant believe its a 1989 movie...so good to see this finally restored on 4k uhd.. Cameron has done this justice !

And it was pretty damn good on VHS - admittedly with a CRT screen (but it was quite a good one).

One of my favourite films - can't wait to see it in 4K - great to hear it's a quality restoration!!!

I watched this for the first time last night with a couple of teenagers. It is one of those movies that escaped my youth but have always wanted to watch.

 

Finally got to it, not the k4 but the remastered standard blu ray and it looked absolutely brilliant. 

I was very impressed with that beautiful blue tonality of under water scenes, but the real kicker was those face close ups. It was pretty perfect on my Epson EH-TW9400.

The audience last night thought it was absolutely gripping. And I thought that for the time, some of the special effects were just too good and I wonder how Cameron was able to achieve that water tentacle among others.

Very enjoyable and very close to picture perfect!

Highly recommended.

But it's pure eye and ear candy, the story is even hokier now than when the film was first released.
