Thanks snoopy do you drive your pair with the hub or split the optical between the two speakers?

Just look a bit closer to the pic in your first post snoopy and see that you have the hub connected!

The Dialog hub is currently the only way to set up a stereo pair. The newest Phantom Reactor does not need a Dialog and that is the stated future direction for all the other Phantom models.  The optical ports are for input only.

A bass test is not enough reason to ever play Beyoncé. Ever.

  • More importantly where do you plug in the turntable?

Yes saw that the reactors are out, targeting those requiring a smaller physical setup but still good output. Am up in Sydney for work at present and David Jones in Bondi junction  have a pair of golds setup so will try and have a listen.

Interesting thread. Funnily enough I am doing the exact opposite to Snoopy (in fact I bought one of his speakers!).

I currently have a pair of Phantom Golds in my listening (aka bed...) room. I do love their sound, particularly the thunderous bass. However after the house is built, with a dedicated AV room, the Phantoms will go in the lounge room, providing sound for the TV and general music.

So far, for the AV room I've bought a pair of SGR CX4Fs and an SGR CX3C as fronts and centre, and 2 Martin Logan Balanced Force 212 subs. I still need to get a couple of surrounds and 4 atmos, haven't really decided which yet. I'm now thinking of just getting a NAD T777 v3 AVR  to run both HT and 2ch as I like the convenience of BluOS and Dirac Live to optimise the sound. If I find it isn't enough I can always add a DAC/streamer for 2 ch later.

Back to the Phantoms, although I love their low end, which has to be heard to be believed, I think their midranges can sometimes sound a little unclear. Also I don't like the Spark App (no one does) or the Dialogue, plus the customer service, particularly with regards to software updates from Devialet is terrible (i.e. non-existent). Still, I'm definitely glad I bought them as they have enabled me to listen to hi-fi sound in a non-ideal situation with great convenience.

It will be interesting to see how the new setup compares, particularly with regards to the bass.....

I have the T758V3 for HT duties and definitely like BluOS and Dirac Live (suggest you upgrade to full Dirac Live, out-of-the-box is limited to 500Hz).  Give it a try, but I suspect it will not be enough for 2 channel, so you will need a streamer/DAC.

Interesting we are going in opposite directions!

Have no issues with the mid ranges of my phantoms, maybe you had room issues affecting the sound?  Agree Spark could do with improvement. I have used BubbleUpnp to access music on the NAS and it is better than Spark.  I am also exploring room correction (will post more later).

No issue with Dialog but interested to understand why you do not like it?

Customer support so far is good, although there are issues caused by the change in distributorship in Australia.  Have read how slow Devialet software updates are and how little info they give away on future updates (i.e. none!).  The one update I am hoping to get is having the Phantoms Roon Ready i.e. implemented with Roon RAAT.

Wow

I think a lot of people will be saying wow or what a surprise but I don’t think it’s a surprise once you have heard then, better sound quality with less components, win win.
Wow

G'day @Snoopy8

I might be wrong but seem to remember seeing a post somewhere about you using Dirac Live now with your Phantoms?

Do I have that right? If so, what hardware are you using to feed your Phantoms, if you don't mind me asking?

Cheers

I did explore using Dirac Live on MiniDSP but abandoned that line of thinking after finding that the optical input on the phantoms was not as good as UPnP.  Am now using Minimserver with convolution as my room correction, which resulted in a better soundstage with more depth and less smearing of instruments.

Cheers. What gear and software did you use to do the room measurements?

Other question I had @Snoopy8, if you feed TV optical audio into the Devialet Dialogue box, is there any noticeable lip-sync issue?

i.e. any lag between TV picture and TV audio coming from Phantoms?

Using a Dayton Audio Umm-6 microphone, REW and rePhase.  Still a work in progress but results are pointing in the right direction...

I use my Phantoms purely for 2 channel, not connected to my TV, nor home theatre.  See this thread, with a mix of issues and solutions.

Cheers, seen that thread and others about this issue, but it seems the best solution is buy a TV that allows you to adjust (if current TV doesn't allow).

I've seen similar issues with other DSP speakers too. I might need to get a new TV if I get Phantoms, or other DSP speakers.

Great news! The phantom looks amazing! I heard it in the store it sounds really good for that size.

It looks as if you updated your equipment list with Kii 3's, but did not update your thread to show us pictures! You sold your helmets?

Yes, I did sell the helmets. Here is the Kii Three's  that came from this post.

No regrets in moving to the Phantoms in the first place. I started my digital music journey with a simple setup and got lost. The helmets was the jolt that I needed to go simple again. It remains simple with the Kii Three's...
