Search functionality has been greatly improved

After extensive testing and tweaking, the long-suffering search function has been greatly improved.

I just searched Osborn Epitome, as an example, and it returned 3 pages of results dating back to 2006.

Their is a little delay, but with over 3.7 millions posts to trawl, I think it's working very well.

The entire search index is now being rebuilt (re-indexing the entire website) - it's been running around 24 hours now and is 66% complete.
This process will be slowing the site response a little at the moment while this takes place. Once complete we should be back up to full speed and full functionality.

Love your work.

@Marc great to hear ! fantastic to get back full functionality :) i'll give it a day or two before giving a shot !

Just my lonely little opinion this is one of the best sites on the internet.

Thank you Marc.

99.9% agree. Only the ongoing problems with Firefox are a minor problem, but overall, definitely great

I do. What do you use? Is it superior to Firefox and in what way? Just curious

Now I am using Chrome and I cannot see the template for placing a listing in the classifieds section. Just like it was with Firefox and I am getting the same blank page as I did with Firefox. Cache is cleared, ad block disabled.

Help please:sorry:

Hi Seb. About 12 months ago mate. I might have to wait for my son to come over and he can do it. I honestly don't have the ability or courage to do so.

3 or 4 years would have maybe been a problem 12 months not really.

Ok here's a twist. I quit Chrome and launched Firefox and logged in once more  and the full FS listings were showing ,along with the FS template. Previously the page was blank and I was asked to "choose a topic " and then had to tick a forum on the side bar. I have managed to list my advertisement using FF with no changes other than signing out and in again.

Colour me 100% confused:emot-bang:

Bit weird indeed mate.

I thought so but I thought I would ask. I have been using Firefox for years but I thought it might be worth giving something else a crack if it outstrips the competition :)

Opera is great once you get the hang of it.

Most things in Firefox came from Opera in the first place.

Firefox has literally just had a major upgrade  - version 57 - (they're using the word "Quantum" now but as they aren't selling audio accessories I'll let them off). Expect different behaviour. You may see a different interface/toolbar as well.

Firefox users who have been upgraded to version 57 should all check your addins as a lot of them may not work any more. It's now faster and cleaner than Chrome at the expense of losing those addins. If you have to have your addins that are expiring, then use the ESR (Enterprise) version, which is a few versions behind - that still gets security updates, so is safe while you find replacements for said problem addins.

How anyone copes using only one browser, though, is beyond me... I find I have to jump between several to get everything done :(

Search function is now brilliant ............... thanks Marc ......... :):):):)

Curious and seeking to understand about why it is that a page in a string of results is considered to be a new search.

For example, searching for an item from 2015.  I type in key word "Marantz" and get a string of results that look like this:

1>2>3>4>5>6>7>etc

so I click on page 5 and get the "please wait half a decade before we allow you to search" message.  But it's the same search! why does this message appear?

thanks

In theory, that would only happen if you hit Search again - as there is a flood control for search (just mentioning again how intensive it is for the server to process a search of our database). Assuming Ajax is working correctly in your browser, clicking on Pg5 just soft-reloads the search results without reloading the whole page.

I just tested your term above, and clicked on Pg5 with an Ajax reload. Worked perfectly.
