Watching the flick What the Health and reading the articles on that makes me real confused.

Meat in general and especially processed meat apparently cause cardiovascular and prostate diseases and diabetes big time.

So does dairy.

Fish full of lead and just as bad as meat.

The film says vegan is the go but there are polarising views. It does say even sugar is ok which is pretty dodgy.

And I can see how some will say veges come with so much pesticide etc.

By the way I don’t wanna go vegan like meat lol

Macca’s has salad.

Grow your own veggies, keep chooks and learn to fish.

What's important is that you have to excercise.  excercise that puts your body to have full range in movement.

And yes, maccas will satisfy the above because you need to open wide to fit that salad in.:D

@Addicted to music that’s covered but surely my diet still matters?

George Burns smoked cigars well into his 90’s, your times up when it’s up. Just enjoy whatever.

That’s a convenient school of thought that I usually subscribe to but...

Either raise your own beef, lamb or chocks and grow your own fruit and veggies. That way you know exactly what's spiced with unwanteds.

my kids think I'm a pedephile becuase I was 24 and she was 18 when she was brewing my son in the oven.   But I'm just blessed in someone that I got to know who will buy fresh produce including meat and fish.  Spends hours cleaning and preparing it.  This included stripping the fat of the meat and washing the veggies cleaned and usually involves a very smelly kitchen.

Process foods are quick and easy, very little work involved but you have no idea what they put in it such as sausages, ham salami, or processed meats.  Understand they taste good but but!   There's health implications.

With fish, we eat all sorts but keep away from  the top of the food chain.  Most people don't like sardines,  or white bait becuase it's too little fish and lots of work!  With seasoning it compliment that fishy taste and the benefit is that they are small fish!

Im 5ys older than my brother and 10yrs older than my youngest brother.  My youngest brother has to take meds to lower his colesterol and the other almost suffered a permanent heart failure and had to have a stent inserted.   We were at my moms 80th birthday and the usual pics gets taken.  Then someone said take a pic of all the brothers, looking at those pics all 3 women said that it's in reverse,  I look much younger than any of them.  I give thanks and in debt to the person I married!

Its not just foods but excercise and you must use the entire range of what your body can do.  Both of my brothers don't get up at 5:00am and run 2.5km every morning and then work out for an extra 1/2 hr.  and that's every mon-Friday  5days a week before I have breakfast, a shower and go to work.  Unlike my brothers I don't have high blood pressure or high colesterol, I did have a slightly higher than normal sugar level but that's corrected by downing zero soft drinks.

@Addicted to music that’s heartwarming pedo addicted :P but you obviously haven’t watched the film. It doesn’t matter how the cows are raised, allegedly. They’re inherently prone to cause all the health risks.

@Happy,

no I have to seen the doc but they're all the same

eat in moderation and enjoy life especially the ones you love..

we are all not going to live forever, and when you're 80-90 you don't want to be in a situation my dad was in, a quadrapedic confined to a nursing bed!   I watched his body deteriorate to the bone, the guy made no plans for end of life and we had to pick up the pieces.   Go out an enjoy the world, travel, enjoy the different cultures and the food she they offer,  you'll find there's a better life than being an audiophile....

That sounds like someone pushing their own barrow. Countless studies have shown that the diabetes and obesity “epidemic” started at the same time western countries started pushing the food pyramid in the 80’s where carbs and grains were the main source of energy. It is s believed the food pyramid creation was secretly sponsored by breakfast cereal manufacturers. Obviously fast food and processed foods with high sugar or carb content haven’t helped.

Meat and 3 veg had served us very well for many years without issue. Now they are suggesting we go back to those ways and limit carbs and sugar. I believe in this theory and now try to eat no pasta or rice and very little bread. If I cut down my alcohol consumption the weight would fall off, but as it is the weight is gradually coming off at around 1 kg a month. Now work and sickness stresses have eased I’m starting to get back into more regular exercise too.

I suggest you check out the CSIRO Total Well-being diet.

I don’t follow the diet strictly but try to follow the general theory of limiting sugar through carbs and fruits and concentrating on protein and veggies for daily nutrition.

@blybo check out the film. I do feel they make some vegan motivated comments but some of their scientific stuff looks roughly legit. When it comes to meat even eating in moderation no good.

Don’t tell Pealeo Pete that

Where are we supposed to get our iron from then? Humans are omnivores.

You didn’t link the film either but I’m not interested in vegan diets. I remember one of the first questions I asked my wife was whether she was a vegetarian or not. If she’d have answered yes there would not have been a second date

Oh I’m not advocating them. Here’s a link: http://www.whatthehealthfilm.com/

They do seem to have some valid points. Iron, there are supplements.

A balanced diet doesn’t need supplements and the body doesn’t absorb supplements very well anyway. Sorry, you lost me at vegan. It’s a lifestyle choice that tries to validate itself thru virtues of healthy eating. I’ve known a few anemic vegetarians in my time. Our bodies have evolved to be meat and vegetable eaters, it’s not rocket science.

I’d rather trust the CSIRO than some quack pushing veganism.

Pollan says everything he's learned about food and health can be summed up in seven words: "Eat food, not too much, mostly plants."

Eat what your body needs to sustain life.If you have to think about it then join the sheep and let the Coles and Woolys dictate what you eat...
