Aloy hasn't posted in here yet  .......Having a warm cuppa and a lie down doesn't mean you can't have your say Aloy!

Don't be shy, we won't bite.......well......some of us might.....but not where it'll show

:winky:

Greetings powerzone

No contribution in this area from me - because it seems much ado about nothing - amazing how steamed up folks can get in relation to something that is to me mindnumbingly boring.

All this about having or not having a number?

Now that I have said something which will no doubt offend both sides - if there are only two - again I don't care -

That will be all

Thanx for your thoughtful invitation to join in the fun - but no thanx B)

PS: Bite away ;)

Thanx for stopping by Aloysius :D

The invitation was extended because caniffe wants as much input as possible as to whether

this is a step foward or backward and as you can see, to date, it's gone down to the wire.

Yes, it may well be mindnumbingly boring but also very rare. We don't have these conversations very often at all.

The fact that you've now seen it, are aware of it, and have replied to it is appreciated. :winky:

Enjoy your day. B)

Fair enough PZ - I didn't see this thread until I got linked to it recently - don't ever remember going into this area before either :o

And yes - thankyou the day continues to be hugely enjoyable! :D;)

So, its come down to pointing out this thread to people that want to sway the decision! Quick PM or point them in the right direction to all those that don't use of topic!

So before anyone else says it and to circumvent, I think this was also the perception many had of hi def as well.

Apologies for the OT.

I don't think it's that "Off Topic" to post an opinion regarding your perception of the "friendliness level" accorded to visitors, new and even long term members when they've taken a look into any of the "On Topic" DTV forum topics.

I'm one of those individuals you mention, who had the perception that the hi-def forum was particularly unfriendly - and Off Topic provided a far more welcoming environment - especially to my long-winded and overly verbose ramblings...:mellow:

Even posts/threads from newbeez (or the less knowledgeable) that shouldn't be in the Off Topic forum, because they deal with equipment or queries that could be considered semi "On-Topic" (like tips on digi-cams, camcorders etc.) are given far better treatment than some newbeez get if they were to ask; for instance, about reception difficulties in the main forum. There's no posts from OT forum posters telling these individuals "This post should be in the "blah-blah-blah" forum topic. Check the 'blah-blah-blah' thread..." although I guess that'd be the more correct - if blunt way of responding to them.

Let's face it - anyone who is so totally engrossed in DTV/HT/AV/HD to the extent that posting about their obsession is the only thing they can manage to do, is welcome to a life that many others (including myself) would deem "strange" in the extreme... but then buttering up loony tunes is what Australia seems to be able to do best these days, so why would the DTV forum be any less of a reflection of a society that bends over backwards to keep the squeeking hinge from making too much noise... <_<

I like a vote that makes a difference, even only for a short period.:winky:

I'm not bothered whether we have totals displayed or not, however I do think we need an identification process in defining member experience.

As has been done in past times, along these lines?

Yep it was in your profile

Total posts 676

100% of members posts were Off Topic

or something like that

35:32 - move along people...

Cheers,

I usually only scroll down as far as "What is happening in Australia?/What is happening overseas?" and I am an active member of those forums. I only noticed or took part in this thread because the subject line made me curious enough to click on it. OT? Who cares? I can talk bollocks with my friends.

I can talk bollocks with my friends.

So, that's a "no", as in.....no change required then.

In that case do we need an OT section that relates to technology (similar to this post here & here) where posts do count and a OT section that relates to crap - like my topic here & here & here where the posts don't count. _ I'd be for that.

Actually just going through the OT section, there are not too many Topic's in there which relate to either IT, Tech or DTV at all!

Just need to ask ourselves the true reason this Forum was initially set up for and relate the post counts back to that.

BTW I would expect my post count to also drop considerably, but I don't really care! The OT will still exist and you will still be able to post what you want. What is the desire to keep the post count up when the posts are not related to the true sense of the foundations of this forum?

Come on dad, give these guys a break........ :winky:

I remember when you were a fun loving dragon...........

Then you became number 2 in this forum,

and you had a gender identity crisis when people use to call you carol instead of coral,

then you changed your name but i still found you

What point was i trying to make?

Post of the Year.

Post of the Year.

Sorry, have to disallow that one.

It appears to be off-topic so it doesn't count!! :P

I’ve a feeling Caniffe is waiting for Alebonau to reach the 20k milestone, then he’ll weave his magic and poor Alebonau will lose a quarter of his post count. This thread is all a ploy to give Caniffe longer to come up with a 20K award. <_<

If there's an award that involves a scorchin' back to zero posts, there's a fair chance you'd be in the running for it :P !!!!

Mooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

Cheers,

...keeping with that theme......

If OT posts are not counted, then does this mean Caniffe is happy for this to become a 'No Pants Policy' forum? :o

I'll get us started!

Now there's a thing - if you don't count a post can it be reported?

Does it exist

Is it like flameproof? :o

I'd imagine that the instant the button to submit a post is clicked, a post "exists" in the digital domain - which'd mean it probably could be reported even if it's only seen by individuals who have been granted 'superior vetting status' by the forum administrators.

Seems kinda tough... knowing something that won't ever count, can still lead to dry roasted nuts. :o:D

It's reminiscent of one of those horror flick scenarios where the "Ultimate Evil" wins simply because no-one ever knows that there were those who took a stand; even though they know their stand is doomed - but, they do it anyway because as Kevin Rudd said before the 2020 summit "even if nothing comes of our effort, it's better to have tried than not bothered at all"... <_<;)
