Too scared to go live. Markets nuts at the moment. Is this the correct definitiion of a CFD.http://www.lse.co.uk/financeglossary.asp?s...;definition=cfd Interesting concept. Can you start small? I don't think I dare comment on the gorgeous identical twin stuff. Conjures up images. Hmmmm.

Mr_Gimlet Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Is this the correct definitiion of a CFD.http://www.lse.co.uk/financeglossary.asp?s...;definition=cfd Interesting concept. Can you start small? Yep, that's right. CFD's are essentially financially engineered products with (scarily massive) leverage: they are traded on margin, you can go short with them, and they suit very short term investors ('day traders'). It is no surprise the more common term for them is 'spread betting'. There is a degree of controversy. First, although CFD's do have a corporate/ financial markets purpose, they are purposely engineered to appeal to small investors who are almost their entire market. Second, the risk exposure without the hedge of an underlying asset is huge - almost limitless to all practical purposes. Third, systems for trading CFDs are increasingly sold via newspaper adverts and spruiking seminars by salespeople who have never been in the financial markets and have no relevant professional experience. Recent surveys of people who attended these seminars have not been positive about their experiences. Personally, speaking as someone who is qualified and works in the financial markets, it scares the bejeesus out of me that anyone would even contemplate touching these time bombs.

Typhoon Posted May 2, 2007 Author Posted May 2, 2007 Me too but I've a feeling Typhoon has a bit of experience in the 'markets'. I have been on a course and have been paper trading for 3 months. No money down yet. Bought trading software and am almost ready. But I made losses (on paper) in the first couple of months due to all these stock market corrections. If you learn a system, follow it, and put in your stop losses, then in theory you can profit. They key bits to get right are: 1. Which stocks 2. What triggers to get in 3. Setting a stop loss which is not too loose and not too tight Yes, I am a total novice, and Mr Gimlet's comments are spot on. Luckily have some people around me who are already doing this and have been giving me tips and advice. Learning from their mistakes. And they are in profit. Back to you Mello...

aztec Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 With respect to cars, I am seriously considering getting an E36 M3 convertible, you can get a low km one for under $50K which would have to be a bargain. Anyone got experience with one of these?
zorg1503559539 Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 nice choice aztec I remember well doing some hot laps in one at Philip Island Race Track in Vic. Just make sure it has been looked after well, full service history and get it checked by a specialist. I'd saty away from the SMG and go for the six speed manual imho..

Yep, definitely looking at a manual, that way the wife can't drive it
Gutty Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 nice choice aztec Ditto ! A friend had this model, and often came to drive days at my local track "Wakefield Park". One of those cars that's just so much fun on track, with "enough" power and great brakes/handling but also a complete pleasure to drive on the road/in traffic etc. One of my top choices for a track car come daily driver.

Anyone got experience with one of these? Just make sure you get one with a sensible owner/good service history, or you'll spend as much as the purchase price again, & still end up with a dog. Cheers, GTO.
zorg1503559539 Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 gto is right very wise comment get one that has been pampered... they are pretty rare didn't only like 100 come to Aus, I like the purple color hehehe. On a side note picked up the new family truckster last night, at least it shares the same gearbox as the Golf Typhoon..........and it also has a turbo... distance to empty after a nice freeway run is showing 1020km...

Yesp, only 100 in Aus, and I think they've all been pampered. Most have pretty low kms for their age so I'm guessing most were weekend vehicles, which I'm thinking I might do, although the wife will have to park her car outside. I'm a bit concerned about a convertible though, road noise, safety, etc. Don't really care about the colour, has long as it has a light coloured leather.
Typhoon Posted May 3, 2007 Author Posted May 3, 2007 Is it a CSL with carbon fibre body? I know someone selling one, it's grey. Gorgeous. But it's been well and truly thrashed, thrown around a track, driven every day, revved mercilessly and I wouldn't buy it. So if the seller is a guy called Alex, I'd be looking for another one
zorg1503559539 Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 typhoon csl was only in the e46 and coupe only, I believe only the roof was carbon fibre...
Typhoon Posted May 7, 2007 Author Posted May 7, 2007 no clay yet?? Nag nag nag. They're coming! Any pics of your new beast?????

I had to laugh though the tyres are rated to 270kmh... Reminds me of an old joke from when I was a kid.... How do you make a Volvo go over 100kph? Push it off a cliff!
Thudd1503560234 Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 The search begins! Tomorrow we go test driving a Mazda3 MPS. Also in the shortlist is: Golf GTI *just to keep things on topic* Volvo C30 T5 Megane 225 The missus also reckons the Peugot 207GT but I want something a bit hotter hatchy than that
Typhoon Posted May 18, 2007 Author Posted May 18, 2007 Hey Thudd, Have a great time test driving! Hope you get a great deal on something you love. Hubby got invited to an Audi drive day at Eastern Creek. They will have TT's RS4's and I assume some of the A & S series. They know we aren't in a position to buy any new cars for a while, but the salesman got on really well with my husband. I'll let you all know how it goes. I hope I get to go (even if only to spectate at the sidelines). I got invited to a drive day for the then new Celica at Eastern Creek many years ago. Geez it was fun. Then the professional got in and fanged it around the track. I've had sore back ever since (I kid you not), but it was worth it! Thudd, pick the GTI pick the GTI pick the GTI!
Thudd1503560234 Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Then the professional got in and fanged it around the track. I sat in the passenger seat while Jim Richards fanged my car around Symmons Plains once, I sat there thinking "OMG OMG OMG I didn't even know my car could *do* that"... then I got to drive with him as the passenger, talk about no pressure! lol
