I've gone the modified cheapie route too, but if you asked me "Do you want an F360 or a modded Rex that is just as quick", I'll take the prancing horse every time. Of course, the other one is achievable by mere mortals but I don't kid myself that it's a 'better' car.

My stepdad "warren weldon"(google it ) recently sold his 355 track car(needs to have some kind of retirement money i guess), and got himself the race version Evo Lancer. Unregisterable. A little tweaking and he's getting over 400hp and knocked 5 seconds off his fastest lap in the 355 at Oran Park. From a purely racing point of view, he couldn't be happier. Thing is a weapon !

Typhoon, my real dad recently got himself a silver GTi. Man talk about a fun little car !!!! Nice choice.

You and I have very similar tastes, B&W 703's and now hot little turbo's.

I get Rex's coming up next to me all the time wanting to play, but I'm too embarrassed to try. I know I would lose.

Though I passed one yesterday with absolute ease, and thought "hey, I just flogged that Rexy", and then saw him in my rear view mirror pulling into a parking space he had slowed down for.

Nice while it lasted.

Well, Typhoon--it appears that you & also have some similar tastes!!--I've just ordered a set of 703s along with some other B&W stuff, & I also like cars, about which I know a bit more than I know about most of the stuff I read on this forum--I'm a real "new boy", or dunce if you like, when it comes to audio. Anyway, my "toy" is a 6 litre VZ GTO, it's an auto (I'm 62!!) with AP 6 spot brakes. You'd probably beat me around Winton, but in a staight line well, I just reckon there's no substitute for cubic inches!

As for this forum, I haven't got a clue what these guys are on about. But they are such a lovely bunch, I could listen to them argue all day.

I reckon you'd beat me, I've toned down my driving considerably since my reckless P-plater years and subsequent youth. After years of my parents yelling at me to slow down, and now my hubby yelling at me to slow down, I've become boring.

I need to fill up the back seat with a some 18 year olds, put on a baseball cap backwards, lower my front seat so you can't see my head and hang my arm out the window.

Again? Makes me cringe just to think about it as I've not seen any pics of the new one, although I hear they've been realeased on the internet, much to Fuji's upset. Still like the look of the MY00 over the later models, even though it's a bit dated at least it's not ugly (IMHO of course!)

Yeah, He's just having a lend of me, I think. Of course, it's a good old Aussie HSV. A friend of mine had a WRX--spent an absolute fortune on it--had about 230kw at the wheels. It was black with 18" gold wheels. I never drove it, but did have a ride--a lot noisier than our GTO, but VERY fast. And I love the R32 Golfs too!

By the way Typhoon, I've purchased a Yamaha RX-Z9 amp to power the B & Ws, not the latest I know, but lots of "grunt"--just like the GTO!

I think she is getting clayed today. Hubby found the contact details for the guy who does a lot of the cars at the Motor Show, and he quoted $180. Much cheaper than the Ming protection pack the dealership tries to sell you.

Otherwise, no tickets yet

love the clay bar, best invention ever

Just got to be carefull using it.

but the clay bar isn't protection, it basically strips any crap off the paint work, including any old waxes and polishes, once clayed you have a perfect smooth surface to work on, then you apply the polish and finaly a good quality wax.

Then put the sunnies on cause the shine is a killer

I came to the threas as I was interested in seeing some user opinions on the GTI... as I am considering in the distant future changing my wife's audi A4 TQ for a Golf GTI ... I hate driving manuals in daily sydney traffic these days... and my wife keeps on borrowing my forester XT ... I think because its auto, its such an easy drive in Traffic ..... so I'm thinking the GTI auto/paddle shift would be a good compromise between a manual sedan & a small wagon.. still fast... albeit not AWD ...

however, the thread is far more interesting and colourful then 'just a GTI' discussion .... BTW, the GTI photos look great..... I'll have mine in black thanks!

go the golf gti with the dsg (direct shift gearbox) big marcelo you won't regret, great combination of power, handling, comfort, fuel economy etc and still some practicality with the hatch and best combination of manual control with fast gearchanges... just ask typhoon...
