Are those spiked feet-cones original on the VPI Nathan?

Yeah i believe that's how they normally come Grumpy. They aren't a dead on sharp spike, they have a little rubber on the bottom. No way i would have put them on the cabinet any other way

The rack is great, ive had it for years, perfect depth for equipment as well. I need to give it another coat of beeswax though

I just read through my thread, and you're right. Its very confusing as the gear and room seems to change every 5 seconds.

I have always had 2 - 3 systems. A Lounge Room, Bedroom and Desktop. I am currently living in the 3rd house since i started this thread. The gear in the photos above is all lounge room. In the bedroom i had a desk with some JB3's and  Bel Canto S300iu. I also have a NAD and B&W system which i listen to when riding my bike (which i only do when its too cold or hot to run). IN the last 2 houses i have had a dedicated lounge room to myself so i have focused on that system more than a bedroom system.

Equipment no shown recently is the Denon 4308, VAF 1-91, JB3's, JB4's, Velodyne CHT 12Q, NAD PP3, Sherwood 5.1 amp, Sonique SAV4 and Bel Canto amp which i have kept away in the cupboard. I've just realised that there enough equipment to make a full 5.1 system with a dedicated 2 channel amp with HT Bypass just waiting in there.

Time for a cleanout again!

Very sweet and sleek case. It was a few years ago now so perhaps they have finally woken up, but when I was looking at building a HTPC finding a case that looked more like HT than PC was pretty much impossible.

My pics dont do it justice, ill open it up and take some more but i really love it. You'd be amazed at what you can get these days, they also do a half width version in the steel look.

Fractal Designs have alwasy been one of my preferred case makers, you pay a premium for it, but jeez they are nice, no sign of plastic on these. Silverstone make some nice ones as well. There is even one with a built in 7" touch screen for use with projector setups!

That would be great, more pics would be very cool. It was back in 2008 I was looking, jeez was it that long ago, in another forum - HTPC case

I was originally interested in the Antec NSK2004B designed by someone at SPCR but it was huge width wise for my cabinet at the time, and hated all the USB slots and plugs visible on the front, the flip down panel to hide all that rocks.

So if you've been watching the classifieds lately, you'll see that i've sold a bunch of stuff. I moved from a 5.1 system and a study system to just a decent stereo and a bedroom system.

The most recent sale was the VAF i-33's which i really grew to love. I had them sounding pretty damn good imo. No real complaints, maybe dynamics if i was being picky.

So now im on the hunt for something new. The difficulty is - I have no idea what that 'new' is. So i think ill head over to Melbourne in October and check out the HiFi show. In the meantime ill put up a thread seeking opinions which should be interesting.

To tie me over, my B&W 705's have been pulled out of their comfy home at the bottom of a wardrobe and are being put through their paces.

Heres the system as of today

Im quite happy with these at the moment, and also quite happy with having options.

didn't you buy the Luxman from VAF to go with the I-33's?

The Luxman dominates the rig now - it is completely out of balance - very poor hi-fi feng shui if you ask me - I expect to see it up for sale very soon.

Benje

ps :) I suspect it still sounds wonderful.

  • Author

I bought the Luxman because it was a good price and i like VU meters. Maybe there was a thought process somewhere there when i mentioned that it matches the VAF's nicely. It did, out of all the amps i've had, it was definitely the best for them

I must shamefully admit, last week i did think of selling the Luxman. But that thoughts gone now, gone for good.

I plan to sell the B&W's soon and then compile all my money and go buy something. Its a different way of doing it, matching the speakers to a system instead of the other way around. Should be intersting

Looks good.

Hobbies are supposed to be fun, so why not?!. I think a lot of us enjoy trying different gear every now and then. Or even often!!!!!
