MarkH Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 This clip has a go at Rick Rubin for his work at squishing any goodness out of the sound of a CD.
davewantsmoore Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Hah. Good song. Nice cover. Funny lyrics. Heh.

Sentient Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 Artist: The Killers Album: Sam's Town Track: 06, Read My Mind Mastered by: Howie Weinberg Label: Island Year: 2006 Dynamic Range Rating: DR7 > http://www.dr.loudness-war.info/details.php?id=3203
proftournesol Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 ozmillsy, you sure know how to find 'em. That is truly shocking:(
Sentient Posted January 18, 2010 Author Posted January 18, 2010 (edited) Artist: Oasis Album: Stop the Clocks Track: 02, Some Might Say Re-Mastered by: Ian Cooper at Metropolis Mastering Label: Sony BMG Year: 2006 Dynamic Range Rating [track]: DR4 Dynamic Range Rating [album]: DR5 > http://www.dr.loudness-war.info/details.php?id=3275 Just a single clip, probably to remind us that despite the horrible scan, they've brickwalled right on the max limit without going over ! Sentient Posted January 19, 2010 Author Posted January 19, 2010 (edited) Bought the above Oasis double cd off the 'dack' sales , what a sh!tter !! . (I have Morning Glory, so knew what I was getting) . I've just sat down and listened to the whole 2 cd's, and fark me, have they butchered some great tunes or what ?!? I saw Oasis live a few years back, and what struck me about the performance was just how arrogant the Gallagher brothers are. They really are elitist ego'istical pr!cks, who seem to think that joe-public are ignorant brainless sheep. That said, I think they are great musicians. The Oasis cd's are overcooked to the extreme, and they really have butchered their melodies, the stupid f_cks. Just about every song on the double cd is a wall of sound, every element of the music is in your face. A question for all, does anyone here have any Oasis release on LP? How does it sound? Very different I'm betting. eg: http://www.recordstore.co.uk/oasis/productdetail.jsp?productPK=unittest-ZhKjz3gG3q6AbAJXpN3IEb-1 I maybe paying too much credit to them, but I reckon the Gallagher brothers knew exactly what was happening. "Fark yeah, pump it up as loud as you can go !!!! " is something I reckon Liam wouldve said to the studio execs , just to take the p!ss out of the public IMO. emesbee Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Yep, that pretty well sums up Oasis, I reckon ozmillsy (except that I don't think they are great musicians).
Guest Muon Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 (edited) Has Lily Allen's new CD been posted here? I just looked at that song with the title F*#$ You, and It's a real shocker. Correction, not a shocker after all, just a clipper. The second one is the track 'The Fear' not as bad but still Edit:Image was stuffed, not so bad now. Edited January 20, 2010 by datafone

Hey dataphone, thats another stinker from what I can see. If you post the details of the release, I'll add it to the OP masterlist (scroll back in the thread for examples, dont worry about the DR rating, but the other details are useful).
Guest Muon Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 (edited) Oops! sorry but that first one came up funny for some reason, I'll change the image to a new one. Looks like The Fear now, just heaps of clipping. Edited January 19, 2010 by datafone
Kensell21 Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Hmm, I actually love it!! Bought both of her two releases on vinyl... Go figure. Lover her accent. Most of her songs have interesting lyrics. But having said that I like when a woman talks dirty .... But you'll be happy to know that I've heard she's not going to release anything more.... Has Lily Allen's new CD been posted here?I just looked at that song with the title F*#$ You, and It's a real shocker. Artist: Lily Allen Album: It's Not Me, It's You Track: 08, **** You Year: 2009 Label: Regal Producer: Greg Kurstin The second one is the track 'The Fear' not as bad but still Edit:Image was stuffed, not so bad now.
Guest Muon Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Yeah that first one Isn't as bad as I first thought, Audacity had a brain fart when it spat that original image out. I must say that even with all that clipping I'm still enjoying it I recon the vinyl would be a lot better than CD, I read something about her not doing any more because of people downloading music O.o

Just picked up Morning Glory on SACD so will be able to give the low down on that next week but l am expecting it to be the same. Cheers, mondie

Audacity has played up on me before too. Still lots of clipping though. Wouldn't surprise me at all, if the LP's have zero clipping. LP's cant be overcooked for volume, or the needle could jump grooves (I read). datafone, shall we enter it into the OP Shamelist ?

This afternoon I had an excellent drive home from work. Oasis Stop the Clocks was playing, the windows were down, breeze blowing hard at my ears, and I heard every note. Perfect CD for the car, when the windows are down.
Guest Muon Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 The thing is, it sounds pretty good (on my system anyway), and very enjoyable So I'm not sure...
mondie Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Yes please, I'd like to know how the sacd sounds for volume. No worries Millsy, its on its way from Canada now so should be here in about 10 days. l have low expectations, al sure it will be a distorted wall of sound.

[/rant off] I have most of Oasis on vinyl and the first 3 albums as Mondie said are pretty bright, in your face and no bass. The last 3 albums " Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, Heathen Chemistry and Dig Out Your Soul are a LOT better sounding. Still not brilliant, but better. I just put on Heathen Chemistry and it sounds pretty good. It has a density and tonal weight that the original albums don't have sound quality wise. It is also 45rpm double LP. I guess Andy Bell's past has given Oasis a new perpective on how their records sound. Edited January 20, 2010 by turntable

It sounds great!!Have your actually heard the CD, or do you guys base all your listening on these audacity graphs now ? My post with graphs from audacity was ones I posted from a rip of tracks from the CD.Like I said it shows lots of clipping but still sound pretty good I'm sure the vinyl is even better
Sentient Posted January 21, 2010 Author Posted January 21, 2010 Have your actually heard the CD, or do you guys base all your listening on these audacity graphs now ? I listen to everything ! But the graphs dont lie. There is no excuse for mastering too loud. If they show clipping, then there can be no denying that it couldve been mastered better. The DR rating software is also another measure. If a whole album is scanned, and is rated DR7 or less, you can bet your bottom dollar that it's been compressed during the mastering - this is regardless of genre too.
Sentient Posted January 21, 2010 Author Posted January 21, 2010 The thing is, it sounds pretty good (on my system anyway), and very enjoyable So I'm not sure... How about we let the independant DR rating software decide. If it gets DR7 or less, I'm shaming it.
