Every now and then, I find myself reflecting on some audio choices I’ve made, especially recent ones. I always try to stay up-to-date by researching and gaining practical experience, whether that’s by auditioning setups during my interstate trips or around town. These aren’t fancy expos; they’re from passionate enthusiasts like me, eager to improve our setups and share our journey.

Right now, as I sit here excited about the electronics before they’re packed and heading out, I can’t help but wonder if I’ve made the right choices. Honestly, the current setup sounds pretty good. But a bit of anxiety sneaks in—doubts about whether I should be more confident.

I asked a few close, well-known audiophiles for their advice, and they just told me, ‘Just you wait.’ They seem more confident in this massive investment. LoL

Oh well, only time will tell if I’ve made the right decision.

You would surely not be human if you didn't have doubts. Hell, I'm nervous 'cos I'm spending around seven grand on new components, so given the immense outlay you've made over the years those doubts must be magnified proportionally. Your question may be, "do these new additions make me happy? do they increase the pleasure in the music I love?" If so, and a divorce is not the result then score!!!

Assuming all other factors are equal, if we had a choice between:

1. Natural, coherent and organic sound

2. Speed, precision and accurate sound

My educated guess is that this new upgrade eliminates the choice, favouring all of the above. I hope this is the case. Perhaps another visit here, G?

I think those points will take you to as close to perfection as the Gods will allow. The question is, will your hypercritical brain ALLOW you to hear it that way or will you simply hear only the faults after a few months. Perhaps you need to train your brain to be more accepting, stop playing test tracks, listen to the music again, and stop fretting. (If possible)

Would love to come over for a visit again. Hell, I'll bring my sleeping bag! You do know though that I'll want to bring highly inappropriate music again on black or silver disks and be thoroughly disdainful of that streaming malarky. 🤔 It's OK,- I will enjoy listening to the South African miners song, always do. Tell me when and I'll be there.

Ged, you’re dead set right! Besides the recent upgrade, the upgraded silver needle alone has made a huge difference for spinning bitmen discs. You can’t miss out on such an improvement unless you’ve lost a significant amount of hearing.

I’d be happy to help with the Airbnb service for this outer building if your audition turns out to be irresistible. All the amenities are there, including the wet area. I must say, the wine cellar room is out of bounds and restricted. 🥳😁

"the wine cellar room is out of bounds" No, no, no! That's where I pitch my swag surely. 🍇images.jpg

😄Let me know when and I'll impose on your hospitality for an hour or two. (or three)

This isn't mine, for sure. I’m sharing this here to inspire myself to slave even harder on the next upgrade.😜😅 Some nice electronics are there.

Isn’t it amusing how, sometimes, we find ourselves awake at night, restless and unable to sleep due to work, family commitments, and mounting stresses? For me, I’ve been counting down the days until this delivery—it's been quite stressful, especially since the entire package weighs over half a ton and requires a hydraulic lift platform for pickup and delivery.

Thankfully, the team at A2A will be here to help with this major operation. Even though the weight matches that of the M7s, it still feels incredibly heavy and formidable. The moment is near. 😊🤤🤤

You Tripper haha, id be loosing sleep too , wow wee , amazing as well as supensefully scary.

If id take a guess with those weight specs , this may equate to the mother of all juice providers being the Grand Goldies...

My new chair arrived last week, and I find it truly comfortable @La scala

I particularly appreciate the additional side table, the remote, and the grape juice holder. Throughout the week, including the recent weekend, my focus has been entirely on spinning my turntable. I believe that, over time, digital audio can seem no more than a boat anchor. The combination of the Technics SP10 MKIII, with a custom-designed and CNC-machined armboard for the Kuzma tonearm that fits with the silver coil cartridge, creates an almost magical and addictive experience. Its speed, timing, and remarkable resolution allow discerning listeners to forget about technicalities and simply enjoy the music.

System as is very content and sounds bloody amazing.

Embarking on a journey into the world of audio has truly been a fascinating experience. Looking back to the mid-2000s, as a newcomer to 2-channel systems, I remember feeling both amused and a bit dismissive of passionate audiophiles who invested heavily in their hobby. Over the years, I met wonderful friends like Mario and Tuyen, who were then DIY enthusiasts, helping me see things from a different perspective. I also made a trip to Mandurah to listen to Jonesy's impressive, high-end system, even though, at that time, despite a significant financial outlay, the soundstage didn't quite meet my expectations. Later, I connected with Brodric and visited PSAudio to explore power plants and cables. While I wasn't fully convinced by their other electronics, investing in a $6.5k P10 power filter was a major step for me. Then, discovering Tasso and the allure of Magico and Accuphase, I became intrigued by the Q series, even if they seemed a bit out of reach financially during my early career. The sound was so precise and clean that I struggled to fully enjoy it. I vividly remember teasing Tasso about spending nearly $65k on Accuphase A100 amplifiers, plus an extra $50k for a CD transport (DP950) and a DAC (DC950).

Looking back, I’ve realised I’ve done similar things, just on a larger scale. But I believe I’m now on the right path, experiencing the magic of beautiful sound within this modest setup, which keeps inspiring me every day.

Here’s a photo capturing this early chapter of my audio journey.

Interestingly, a friend from overseas received this amplifier. If you look closely at their physical size, having them may interfere with the soundstage depending on where you place it.

I don't think they prioritise matching rug. After all, an audiophile rug is part of acoustic treatment, costing between $1000 and $2000 for 2m x 3m.

So, Chanh,

Are you living in your Hifi room since breaking the news to your sweetheart? 😜

Congratulations on your "modest" upgrade.

We will have to open something special once you have it set up. 👌

Thanks, Steve! We definitely need to celebrate! It’s a pretty modest investment, especially when you consider what’s been shown here. Goldmund 8800s are RRP $1,399,000.00!

It’s funny, my wife decided to stay home on the day of delivery. I’m still scratching my head as to why! 🤔😬

Hopefully she doesn’t have access to your Stereonet profile. I’m sure she’s sizing up some comparable jewellery. 😛
