I purchased the following Ultrasonic RCM from a guy in Poland off Ebay. It took forever to get here and I didn't touch it since I received it sometime in Sept of last year. Tonight I fired it up and cleaned a particular record in my collection that I know was very noisy and dirty. An Opshop copy of The Mission soundtrack.

I ran it through this RCM and then through my Loricraft PR4. I must say that the results are astounding to me.

While there is still noisy through the quiet passages of the LP, the previously prevalent clicks and pops have now abated (almost gone), the bass of the kettle drums on the tracks has also been unleashed. It now goes very low.

You can do seven records at a time and it is much cheaper than getting an Audiodesk and KL audio unit. I paid only 180 Euros. A little elbow grease is required to get things done but I don't mind as I can get seven records done in one go as opposed to one record at a time with the Audiodesk and KL audio units.

The seller now makes a PRO model for 350Euros but it seems to work the same as the basic one that I got.

Be warned that it took 2 months for the unit to reach me through the post.

Nice Shannon!  7 lp's at once...WTG.

After the first month of waiting were you feeling like a bit of a dill? Then at a month an a half you knew you were a dill and then at the end of two months it arrives and you absolutely knew you were a dill for thinking you were a dill.(Phew!)

I've looked at his YouTube videos and will pull the trigger on one of these soon. I know someone else who has one and similar findings to what you've posted.

Thankfully, I paid with Paypal. :) So I was safe.

Yes, someone had one on sale in the SNA classifieds a few months ago.

It really should be used in concert with another type of RCM like the Keith Monks/Loricraft or the many vacuum type RCMS available.

I see. I think the drying is still manual though from the video he posted on Youtube.

From what I have read over time

Heated cleaning fluid is essential for a superior clean

But you could be right about the drying stage

yes, in the manual for my RCM, it states that it works better if the cleaning solution is heated. I guess, I could get one of those heating elements.

I'm  now listening to another Opshop find - Bruce Hornsby and The Range 'The Way it Is' which I picked up 10 years ago for $1. It too suffered from clicks and pops but wasn't particularly noisy.

After once through the US RCM and my Loricraft PR4. Clean and clear - and the bass is lower and tighter. Simply amazing.

I've got a friend that says exactly the same. Might be worth nothing for those who doesn't have a vacuum RCM and want to try ultrsonic

IMO This a great option at $250, if you do not want to make up a frame to sit over a Ultrasonic bath yourself and are happy to wait  the two months for delivery. If concerned about the water not being hot, just heat it up in a kettle or saucepan before you start.

You can though get the better bath that he uses for the delux  $490 model  ,plus all the parts including the motor and put it together your self for less than $250.

Others on this site have come up with other DIY alternatives but if you are not in to DIY the one from Poland is hard to beat.

If the one from Poland had been around when I made mine I may have thought twice about it.

How many hours went into making yours including time going to shops?

The Ultrasonic bath and the rotisserie motor were purchased on line via ebay so no time. The Ikea cutting boards meant a trip to Ikea but I was going anyway.

I spent quite a bit of time thinking about it and looking on the net at what others had done.

Actually cutting the boards up and screwing them together took about 5 hours following the protocol of think twice cut once.

I then realised it would be better lower in the bath so another couple of hours rejigging.

Have just looked on line and the Baths appear to be about $40 cheaper now. at around $149

If I made a second one it would be quicker.

I've clicked on that link and it's in Polish - but from what I could make out there weren't any listed for sale in ebay

He might have improved on his shipping as mine only took three weeks from ordering in November. Agree with your findings - a very good addition to the cleaning regime for the well-used vinyl!

I wouldn't worry about spending extra for a heated ultrasonic bath. Run the bath for 10-15 minutes for de-gassing  and the water will be plenty warm enough.

I've purchased one of the basic units but haven't fired it up yet. Are you using any additives to go with the water? If so, where did you buy them from?

I use a mix of about 90% distilled water, 9% iso alchohol (99.9%) and 1% Kodak Photo-Flo. Seems to work well and after US clean, I dry on my rcm.

Sorry, H ... why does running the US bath for 10-15 minutes "de-gass" the liquid?  The US process produces bubbles continuously!

"Water" is distilled water unless you are Jeromelang ... who prefers to use tap water.  I use distilled water bought in 10l containers from AutoBarn.

To that, AIUI, you generally add 5% of 99% IPA - which you can buy in 5l containers from Radio Parts.  Plus 4ml of Ilford Ilfotrol - which you can buy from camera shops.

The maker has put the recipe in the manual and it is what Hensa posted.

BTW, I have informed the manufacturer of this thread and he is probably getting ready for the influx of Aussie orders.
