Er, not a woman and the avatar is a poster from the film A Clockwork Orange, which is explicitly about how people are mind-controlled and programmed and manipulated by the elite, on a personal and societal level. The film maker Kubrick was not approving of it, he was exposing it.

I asked a simple question; why so sensitive?

Hi John

Not sensitive, just giving an example that your avatar may be seen as not suitable to those who do not know the Stanley Kubrik movie.

Cheers

  • Damn good idea Prof. There really are some super cheesy, sleazy avatars that remind me of what was considered OK in the 60's,when women were regarded only as cooks and sex objects.   I love the fema

You are making large assumptions there.

I can guarantee every person in my family would not. They would just see an Avatar of a woman weilding a knife -    they will however never see this picture as they have zero interest in going onto a hifi web site :D        note smiley

This is exactly the point behind the request. We'd all like our hobby to grow, one reason why we have so few women interested is that it's seen as 'too blokey'. Interestingly, the less 'blokes' the site becomes, the greater the web traffic.

Heaps of women at the Iron Maiden concert, I'm safe (this time).

Besides, who doesn't like Eddie?

Maybe I need to put my caddisfly back in its case

In all seriousness, I agree with the mods here, I like pictures of saucy ladies as much as the next bloke, but a family friendly forum isn't really the place for it

Is @@joz ok with this?

I sometimes wear t-shirts with a similar print and some of the mum colleagues would fume at me (and some of them lol).

And of course I had been putting up a similar image for my avatar cuz i find that shht hilarious.

I actually wish people would keep the same avatar at all times, it's how I know whose posting most time.

That means avatars reminiscent of the calendars some members had on their walls growing up are not really acceptable. There are plenty of other venues for that sort of thing on the internet though!

@@alistairm don't get me wrong, not implying people keep inappropriate avatars, just find one and keep,it ;)

Me personaly I'm not a stickler and not really very PC, though I am very aware of the company I'm with and act accordingly.

So perhaps we should realise this is not a private exclusive boys club nor a mechanic's toilet, but what Stereonet is trying to foster is a more inclusive membership. Which means letting go of the sexist pics and commentary even if it's only for laughs.

Not only the same avatar but the same damn user name would help too! :)

Here here!

Where?

Where?

There!

You blind, man!

If It's not obvious, the 'here here' is as I'm an av and name changer......as in here I am, one who changes AV's and Names :D

Maybe too subtle

Edit: which now leads to an error in my response to caddis'  'There' should have been yet again 'Here'

Automated Velociraptor...derr :P

OK, I'm spamming too much, sorry mods :(

Perhaps letting the censored person know they are being censored would be an idea... Then I wouldn't replace my avatar with the same image after a mod had stripped it by stealth. I'm happy to play by the rules, of course, but removing an avatar without telling the user it has been done, or why - and we'll just go in circles as we did yesterday... Just sayin...

There!

You blind, man!

Dad, Muon wants to talk to you

As far as mine (well, now the old one at least) my whole family loves honey. Being that I love my family and my hifi I thought mine was appropriate, at least for us. However, I've put the old girl to rest. She's been hard at it for a long time now.

Would it not be more that this forum has an 'In' crowd and everyone else including new members feels very much on the outer as their posts are largely ignored.

Really ? I'm surprised and sorry to hear you feel that way. I've found this to be one of the most welcoming forums out there. Not trying to deny what you are saying, just surprised
