  1. Further Information: B&W 606 bookshelf speaker (white satin finish) in immaculate condition with grills and original box. Bought new from Klapp Audio Visual (Melbourne). Posted elsewhere as well. WhatHiFi reviewed them "The 606s will breathe new life into your favourite tracks. They’re upbeat and energetic, deliver punchy, solid bass and offer class-leading levels of detail and dynamics"
  2. Hi all, I've been fortunate enough to acquire a somewhat dishevelled but perfectly functioning set of pregnant penguins. I'm in love. I'm powering them with a Denon POA-T2 120w p/c into 8 ohm power amp at the moment, and they seem pretty happy. However, I'm using an integrated amp's with pre-out as a pre-amp and phono stage, and I know my partner would greatly appreciate it if I could, umm, 'consolidate' the boxes sitting on our TV cabinet. I've got my eye on a used Musical Fidelity a3.2. I'm determined to find an amp with enough juice (and headroom) to give the DM6 what they need, but am unsure whether this pairing will do it. While their stats (nominal 8 ohm, 95db sensitivity, max 350w) don't suggest that they're desparate for juice, that seems to be the consensus of DM6 owners. MF a3.2 specs: Output power: 115Wpc into 8 ohms (20.6dBW), 185Wpc into 4 ohms (19.7dBW). Alternatively, I could save up a bit and go big - something like the MF M6si (220w into 8 ohms). Just not sure how big a difference it will make. The shift from a Rega Brio to the POA-T2 was HUGE. Can I expect the ceiling to get much higher? Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  4. Hello friends, I just spontaneously purchased some Bowers and Wilkins DM2000 last week. Honestly, I saw a photo of them on ebay and something just clicked, not at all my usual shopping style. But this is what I imagine when I hear the word "speakers". So, now of course I am worried that my reciever is going to leave me wondering about needing more power. While I await delivery, I'm hoping someone can comment on my Yamaha RX-V1800 ability to push them, and/or suggest something more appropriate, at a price that doesn't trigger my wife's attention. Is the v1800's 140W a true and fair representation of its power? Currently, I have Wharfdale 9.5 towers, and enjoy listening to them as loud as I can, relative to any particular situation, but haven't really gone full throttle on them. They tend to lose clarity as I approach -0db. The few references I find to my b&W online, or to similar b&W spkr of that era, seem be unanimous in that they will eat as much power as you can give them, and crave more. Indeed, the b&W spec sheet gives a minimum Wattage, rather than the usual indicators. What have I got myself into? Further down the rabbit hole? Or is this going to work out just fine?
  5. Hi all, Been using my current HT setup for more than 12 years now. Was thinking about updating the AV receiver ( NAD T 762) with a later NAD or Anthem AV Receiver. But then after talking to a few people I thought about keeping the existing and adding a stereo amp to complement the system as I listen to music most of the time - (60/40 music/movies) My HT system: NAD T 762 3 x B&W DM 602 S3 (Fronts/Mid), 2 x B&W DM600 S3 (Rear) Sub ASW300 What are your thoughts about a stereo amp (with HT by-pass ?) if my max budget is around A$3500 Any suggestions for stereo amps? Thanks you all.

  7. For sale are the Bowers & Wilkins 705 S2 Signature standmount/bookshelf speakers with the included official B&W FS700 stands. The speakers are in mint as new condition with the original boxes and documentation. Speakers were purchased 26/11/21. Pickup is from Glebe NSW 2037. B&W 705 Signature Speakers The 705 Signature is finished in exclusive Datuk Gloss and features optimised crossovers, a Continuum cone mid/bass driver and a Carbon Dome tweeter housed in Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top enclosure. Featuring the Continuum cone and Carbon Dome, this compact standmount loudspeaker is finished in exclusive Datuk Gloss and features optimised crossovers, making it worthy of the Signature nameplate. Replacing the CM Series, the entire 700 range combines studio-grade 800 Series Diamond technologies with purpose-built innovations to elevate home audio to an entirely new level. All of this performance comesfrom room-friendly cabinets designed to fit beautifully into your home environment. Designers often argue that a product's functional and aesthetic qualities are closely related. We couldn't agree more. In fact, the solid body tweeter on top of the 705 and 702 speakers is a case in point. It's an object engineered first and foremost for acoustic performance. But in its minimal simplicity, it's also undeniably beautiful. The 700 series is quite a step up from the CM series it replaces with much greater detail and resolution along with a more involving presentaion generally. Call us to arrange a demo today! The following technologies combine to make 700 series very special indeed; Solid body tweeter The 705 and 702 speakers employ solid body tweeters, a high performance design feature found previously only on the 800 Series Diamond. Its acoustically optimised form is milled from a solid block of aluminium, forming a structure that's exceptionally inert and resistant to resonances. Carbon Dome™ tweeter Carbon Dome tweeters are a brand new technology purpose-built for the 700 Series. Delivering a dramatic improvement on the aluminium Double-dome tweeter, they raise the breakup threshold to 47kHz, for pinpoint imaging accuracy and detail. Continuum™ cone First introduced with the 800 Series Diamond, the Continuum cone represents the biggest step-change in midrange performance since Aramid Fibre. Its woven coated material provides highly controlled break-up, resulting in a more open, neutral midrange. Midrange chassis The three floor-standing loudspeakers in the range employ a new FEA-optimised aluminium chassis for the midrange drivers. This new design is stiffer than the zinc chassis of the CM Series, for improved control and cleaner midrange presentation. Decoupled midrange The midrange drivers in the floor-standers also feature a decoupled design, adapted from a similar system in the 800 Series Diamond. Decoupling reduces cabinet colouration, and further improves midrange clarity. Aerofoil™ Profile cone The new Aerofoil Profile bass cone has the same variable thickness design as the bass cones in 800 Series Diamond speakers. Developed using advanced computer modeling techniques, it provides stiffness and rigidity where it's needed most, for deep and dynamic bass. Specification Description 2-way vented-box system Features Decoupled Carbon Dome tweeter Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top Continuum™ cone bass/ midrange Flowport™ Drive units 1x ø25mm (1 in) Carbon Dome high-frequency 1x ø165mm (6.5 in) Continuum cone bass / midrange Frequency range 6dB at 45Hz and 33kHz Frequency response 50Hz - 28kHz ±3dB Sensitivity 88dB spl (2.83Vrms, 1m) Harmonic distortion 2nd and 3rd harmonics (90dB, 1m) <1% 100Hz - 22kHz <0.5% 150Hz - 20kHz Normal impedance 8O (minimum 3.7O) Recommended amplifier power 30W - 120W into 8O on unclipped programme Dimensions Height: 340mm (13.4 in) cabinet only 407mm (16 in) including tweeter and plinth Width: 200mm (7.8 in) Depth: 285mm (11.2 in) cabinet only 301mm (11.9 in) inc. grille and terminals including plinth Net weight 9.3kg (20.5 lb) Cabinet finishes Datuk Gloss Grille finishes Black

  19. Further information: NO MARKS OR SCRATCHES Bowers and Wilkins LCR3 CENTRE SPEAKER The Bowers & Wilkins LCR3 centre channel speaker is an exceptional speaker with a dense, richly-textured sound field and perfect for music or movies. The tweeter uses tapering tube loading, first used in the original Nautilus. This ensures far greater absorption of unwanted radiation away from the rear of the diaphragm and results in a cleaner, more focussed and natural high frequency sound. The twin bass/midrange drivers use cones of woven glass fibre, which functions in a similar fashion to Kevlar. The front baffle is moulded in inert mica filled polypropylene, which has a subtly curved outline and is dimpled to echo the theme of Flowport at the back; itself elegantly combined with easy-access terminal panel that can accept all common terminations. The Bowers & Wilkins LCR3 is magnetically shielded, which enables placement near a television. Signature Version of B&W 705 S2's Significant Crossover Upgrades Bring A More Refined Sound Bright Metal Accents & Signature Badging All The Best In B&W Audio Engineering In A Stunning, Unique Finish The B&W 705 Signature bookshelf speaker is the new top-of-the-range model that adds a beautiful high gloss Datuk ebony finish as well as substantial crossover upgrades to take this already wonderful sounding speaker to new heights. We look forward to demonstrating these superb new speakers from Bowers & Wilkins. About The B&W 705 Signature Speakers The new 705 Signature and 702 Signature models share a common philosophy with their predecessors: like previous Signatures, the new models are carefully upgraded and lavishly finished loudspeakers that represent the apex of current Bowers & Wilkins design, engineering and manufacturing processes. A huge amount of care and attention has been paid to improving their acoustic performance via an upgraded crossover design, and also to carefully crafting the luxurious new cabinet finish. Launched in 2017, the elegant Bowers & Wilkins 700 Series range of speakers already delivers exceptional performance thanks to its careful use of technologies first seen in the high-end 800 Series Diamond, such as the Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top assembly, unique Continuum cone drivers and Aerofoil profile bass drivers. Used in combination with bespoke 700 Series technologies such as the Carbon Dome tweeter plus carefully optimised and rigid cabinets, the result is a range of loudspeakers as superb to listen to as it is to look at. As Signature products, the new 705 & 702 Signature have received further, detailed improvements enabled by upgraded crossover designs and components. Both models now feature specially treated and upgraded bypass capacitors sourced from Mundorf, larger heatsinking and, in the case of the 702, an upgraded LF capacitor on the bass section of the crossover. In tandem with the immense benefits both models enjoy as a result of their Tweeter-on-Top configuration, these upgrades improve the already-remarkable resolution, openness and spatial retrieval on offer, lending them an even-more polished, refined and involving sound. Upgraded Finish In keeping with established Signature practices, the 705 and 702 Signature boast a stunning new Datuk Gloss ebony-coloured veneer with a distinctive, beautiful grain. This custom-designed finish combines the beauty of exotic real-wood veneers with the environmental benefits of a sustainably-sourced supply, in this case from specialist Italian wood company Alpi. Each pair of speakers is unique, with no two models sharing the same grain pattern or figuring. Bowers & Wilkins adds to Alpi’s painstaking workmanship by applying nine coats of finish – including primer, base coat and lacquer – to create a deep, lustrous appearance. To further accentuate and highlight the quality of finish on each model, both Signature speakers have bright metal trim rings around the mid/bass and midrange cones plus bright, silver- finished, protective tweeter grilles. Finally, both models have a Signature identity plate to their rear panel, helping turn each speaker into a genuine and unique and individual piece. Director of Sales at Bowers & Wilkins Australia, John Martin, said “Like our previous Signature releases, these two special Signature versions of our highly regarded 702 S2 and 705 S2 are destined to become classics. Whether you buy them for their next-level performance or their exotic finish, or both, you’ll be buying something that is unique, exclusive and timeless, to be enjoyed for many years to come”. Technology The 700 Series is an entirely new range of speakers. Compared with the outgoing CM Series, every transducer has changed and radically improved. To do this, B&W have borrowed some of the most advanced technologies from their flagship 800 Series Diamond, adapting them to suit a more attainable price point. And they’ve introduced entirely new technologies, designed specifically for this range. Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top Decoupled Carbon Dome: The Bowers & Wilkins 705 bookshelf loudspeaker houses a 25mm (1") Carbon Dome tweeter that utilises a Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top design for uncompromising high performance sound that will reveal subtle nuances that you've never heard in your music before. Decoupled Carbon Dome Tweeter: The 25mm (1") Decoupled Carbon Dome tweeter is purpose-built for the 700 Series and delivers a dramatic improvement on B&W's aluminum double dome tweeter (found in the 600 Series) by raising the breakup threshold to 47kHz, for pinpoint imaging accuracy and detail. The tweeter is decoupled from the mounting assembly and hardware using synthetic gel to prevent any unwanted vibrations from reaching the tweeter. The result is breathtaking clarity and definition. Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top Design: The Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top design is borrowed from B&W 800 Series Diamond and helps the speaker convey uncanny realism, presence and transparency. Milled from a solid block of aluminum, the solid body tweeter housing design creates an acoustically optimized enclosure for the tweeter that is exceptionally inert and resistant to resonance. The result is a more natural, spacious, and open sound. Continuum Cone Midbass/Midrange Driver: The 705 speaker features a single 165mm (6.5") Continuum cone midbass/midrange driver, borrowed from B&W's 800 Series Diamond. Thanks to its woven-coated material and composite construction, the Continuum cone provides a natural and open sound by avoiding the abrupt transitions in behavior that can impair the performance of a conventional drive unit and cause distortion. As a result, voice and instruments are delivered with purity and precision. Flowport Technology: The B&W 705 utilises Flowport Technology to create smooth, deep, and efficient bass response. Its bass reflex enclosure features a rear-firing, dimpled flared port that provides natural bass response without turbulent noise or distortion. If you want to reduce the volume of bass without moving the speaker further from the wall, fit the included foam plug into the rear-firing port for lesser bass response. Acoustically Transparent Magnetic Grille: The Bowers & Wilkins 705 speaker comes with an acoustically transparent magnetic grille cover that's easy to install, looks great, and doesn't get in the way of the sound. Dual Binding Post Terminals: The speaker has two sets of heavy-duty binding posts connected by jumper straps. The binding post terminals will accept bare wire, spade connectors, or single banana plugs. There are plastic inserts that will need to be removed from the binding post terminals in order to use banana plugs. Using the dual binding posts terminals, you can choose to bi-amp or bi-wire the speaker when facing the back of the cabinet, just remember to remove the metal jumper straps first! The top set of binding posts are for the high frequency drivers; the bottom set of binding posts are for the low frequency drivers. Bi-Wiring: Bi-wiring can provide noticeable improvements in the overall transparency of your loudspeakers. Run separate speaker wires to the low & high frequency drivers from a single amplifier. Bi-Amping: Bi-amping allows you to use separate amplifiers for the high & low frequency sections of your loudspeaker for greater dynamic range & lower distortion. We recommend that your amplifiers have identical gain/output to preserve the speaker's voicing balance. Mounting Options: The Bowers & Wilkins 705 speakers can be placed on a set of speaker stands (sold separately - see Accessories Tab for recommendations), a table-top, shelf, or other piece of furniture although we strongly discourage that you use these last two options because the performance will be well below their capabilities. The included self-adhesive rubber feet will reduce but not eliminate unwanted vibration but will protect your furniture from scratches. The rubber feet add approximately 10mm to the overall height of each speaker. The B&W 705 S2 bookshelf speaker should be mounted as close to ear level of the main seated listening position as possible. Moving the speaker further from the walls will generally reduce the volume of bass. Space behind the speakers will also help to create an aural impression of depth. Conversely, moving the speakers closer to the walls will increase the bass. Bring Hollywood Home: Providing the ideal balance of high-performance acoustics and living room-friendly dimensions, 700 Series speakers are a superlative choice for home cinema sound. Pair them with one of the two centre-channel speakers in the range and the powerful DB4S subwoofer, and you’re set for a truly transformational movie experience.
