  3. Greetings everyone I was approached by my neighbour the other day - saying he has a TT he wants to get rid of... low and behold a Linn Sondek - in original condition, He said he purchased it circa 1985... no mods. but well looked after.... and given that most these days come with upgrades and the like - was wondering what it would be worth to make an offer to him. Never owned a TT before, so I really don't know what it would be worth.... Your advice / suggestions are welcome thanks Dean
  4. I have already changed my amps to tubes. These are now packed into their original double boxes and awaiting sale. Mint condition. Not used much. About 2 Years old. 5 Year Warranty. Local set from authorised dealer. Box and receipt included. Still have about 3 years warranty . 1. STP-SE Pre Amplifier 2. ST 1000 Mk II Stereo Power Amplifier (480W per channel into 8 Ohms. 725W per channel into 4 Ohms). Drive any speaker you want. Even planar speakers.
  5. Greetings. I have recently purchased a Sondek LP12 with Valhalla power supply, but have read a Lingo power supply is much better. Any thoughts out there?. The rest of my set up is Linn, LK100, Majik and Mimic, although I am a relative newcomer to the world of Vinyl.
  6. Hi All, When it comes to turntables I am very much a novice. With my very pitiful vinyl collection and the frustration of being unable to listen to a song with out heavy static and crackles - I quickly resign to the simple thought of a CD Player. Recently I came across this Linn Sondek LP12, I couldn't tell you if it was original or not but I have attached a few images showing as much detail as the light will allow. My Questions are: -There is no Power plug / or no connection for an external power source to be plugged in - Nor did it come with a power supply. How does this unit power up ? -When I carefully spin the platter, it scrapes the plinth unevenly, is this an issue that may be resolved by the slow easy spin of the motor and belt ? - Or something a little more serious with balancing etc ? I am sure I have other questions I have forgotten, But if any of you guys can help or have an opinion regarding, it would be much appreciated ! Dek.
  7. Hey guys Hope you can weigh in here. Just how much better is a pair of Linn Kaber going to sound Aktiv and tri-amped to 3x LK100s than it is passive with a non-Linn amp? which amp? you tell me but in the current real world it would be the Cyrus integrated listed below. I bought my already Aktiv Kabers thru ebay from Jim Yate Stereo in Adelaide a while back - I've never done anything with them. I estimate it would cost at least $2000 picking up the right pre and power combos secondhand from ebay sellers in the UK... Or just recently a set of passive crossovers have come up - still not cheap: I figure around $400 incl postage and professional installation... Thing is my current room set-up (around 5x7 m) is served pretty well by the PSB standmounts I already have - there is no room for a second system. So one option is to put curisty abbout hearing those guys at all (hence the crossover itch) and let them sit for some future day when I'm a homeowner! Or I could trade the PSBs AND the Aktivated Kabers and try something else, haha thanks, Dylan
  8. OK, there have been big changes here. A year or so ago my system looked like this: There are photos of this system's evolution here and my old system in a shed in Melbourne here. Anyway, we moved house before the UK "summer" and I fancied a change/couldn't be bothered packing up all that gubbins so I decided to sell up and have a complete change of direction. All that is left is a stack of Fraim and the LP12 rig. The Fraim will be sold soon . The current state of play looks like this: The wallpaper and carpet came with the house. It is a bit of a killer, but I've gotten used to it and am leaving it well alone. The mana is a relic of my misspent youth and was intended to be temporary, but I really quite like it now. The LP12 is definitely more at home on the mana rather than the fraim. Footfall is a thing of the past unless I engage in some of my lumbering elephantine dancing. The Gato amp is a huge surprise. It is 250W into8 ohms and class D to boot, but musically is absolutely superb. I intended to move to a Devaliet, but am happy enough for now. An added bonus is that the Gato does not buzz and hum. Some of the Naim boxes were quite noisy to say the least. This LP matches the wallpaper quite well: The Aro is the only remaining bit of Naim kit I own. It has been a huge shift. Streaming is currently provided by a Simple Audio Roomplayer which is under the Radikal. I am waiting for an Auralic Aries to show up. I am told it will be here during the weekwhich will be good as the Simple Audio is not in the league of my old NDS. So I have gone from a multi-box active system to a passive rig with 3 boxes and a record deck. Do I miss the old rig? Yes, but not much really. Did I have lots of money left over? Not really due to reinvestment , largely because of these chaps: Another view: And one more for luck: Art Alnico 8s in walnut. Absolutely the best speakers I have ever owned, by a country mile. As the new place is bigger this is a dedicated listening room. So there is plenty of space for the vinyl to come out of hiding: My CDs are ripped to a Vortexbox and are in storage in various parts of the house. All I need at the moment is some more furniture as it is a bit of a fortress of solitude at the moment, with a single very comfy armchair only. I haven't been able to find a sofa to suit me yet.
  9. Im looking for a Linn Ittok tonearm. Must be in good condition with good bearings Please email me if you have one you wish to sell. Pictures and description of condition would be appreciated.
  10. After years of service my Linn Mimik CD player is dying. It skips around on nearly all CDs and fails to pickup on some. I am told the laser is dying and is now unobtainable. I'm not ready to go down the DS route yet and have bought a Linn Ikemi CD player for more than is probably smart. Is it compatible with my current Linn components, namely a Majik pre amp and LK100 amp or are there better amp/preamp combos and do they justify spending even more money?. I'm tempted by a Kairn pre amp as it has a built in phono amp for my Sondek, thus eliminating my dynavector phono amp and preserving my all Linn system. My speakers are Keilidhs. Am I crazy?
  11. Hi I am looking at selling my Linn turntable, Naim amps and JBL speakers but I've got no idea what to ask for them. They are all vintage like me! I bought the Linn from The Sound Craftsman in 1983 I've been told a friend of a friend of mine is interested in the Linn but what's a fair price for both of us? And if he is not really interested where's the best place to sell them? Put a classified on Stereonet? A dealer? Here's a list of the gear; Linn Sondek LP12, Ittok IV II, Linn K18 Naim Nac 32-5 Naim NAP 140 JBL L96 I can give more details but I didn't know if that was appropriate on an advice forum. Any advice and thoughts would be really appreciated.

  13. Further Information: Linn Sondek LP12 turntable. Fine example. Working well. Cosmetically 9/10. SME 3009 tonearm and Ortofon 2M Red cart with new spare stylus. Background: I bought this at least 5 years ago but have only used it once as it didn't go well on my shaky wooden floors so have stuck with direct-drive, which handles the floors a little better. The gent I purchased it from told me it was serviced and set-up by a local hi-fi store (unknown). It runs well and sounds great.
  14. Item: Linn Majik DSM Location: Marrickville / Newtown (Sydney) Price: $3300 $2900 $2550 ..reduced again FIRM! (still includes $50 donation to Stereo.net.au) Item Condition: bought in early June, 2012 so very good indeed, also it's just a few months + some more months old and has a five year warranty.. still over 4 years warranty left.. Reason for selling: buying a Luxman SQ-38u bought the Luxman SQ-38u (loving my Luxman) also my missus has "surprised me" by moving bedrooms around and not letting me have a stereo or TV in the bedroom anymore so this is now sitting there looking sad and unused, has a nice Dac which I'll miss I didn't really use it as a streamer though which is a waste.cause I'm soo used to Sonos.. and I have another Luxman vintage amp I still want to use.... somewhere... unsure where I can now though.. main reason for trying to re-list it for sale though is that my shiny new / old Vespa needs a new engine put in... Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, DD (can pickup or I could courier it out once paid for at extra cost of course..) Extra Info: bought it to replace Sonos ZP90/ Connect, Rega Dac, old Luxman L-480 (also for sale now.... sold) but so used to using Sonos that I wound up adding a Sonos to it instead and now am buying a Luxman SQ-38u (I like wood cabinets on Hi Fi) the idea behind buying the Linn was that it would reduce the number of boxes to one, as it became two and I started reading about the Luxman SQ-38u and couldn't resist so this should be a bargain, if it's something you could use all it's functions.. has decent Amp, phono stage, streamer, DAC all in one.. and is light and slim.. (why I bought it...now if only it had a Sonos unit jammed in there somehow I'd probably keep it) Thanks for looking, Justin and sadly no it's not the Hdmi version which got release recently, though it has plenty of digital inputs so I don't think it matters all that much.. RE: DSM Reviews? The Majik DSM is a renamed Majik DS-i. There is no difference other than the name which has only been changed on the last month or so. 17. For sale, this incredibly rare pair of three way floorstanding speakers by Linn Scotland circa 1988. They were designed by Australian speaker designer Rod Crawford who is now Legend Speakers in Tasmania. He writes about them here- http://www.legendspeakers.com.au/Backup-old-site/legendstory.php ‘Another loudspeaker, code-named the LS1000, was supposed to go between the Kaber LS500 and the new Isobarik LS2000 (Keltik). The LS1000 had gotten through all the design hoops, including listening tests etc, until it was stopped by the sales guys in pre-production, the final step before full production.’ After I bought these and did some digging about their history Rod told me by email that he thought Linn built 5 pairs, and this pair he brought with him when he moved back to Australia. They are in pretty good condition, amazingly high build quality as expected from Linn, scratches and chips as pictured, dust caps for speakers deteriorated or missing. They come with saggy fabric speaker covers. 90cm H x 30cm W x 35cm D

  20. Further information: Further information: Custom built Linn Sondek /Thorens TD150MK11 chassis fitted with Brand new Linn springs, brand new Linn motor & recently fitted Hercules & Mose 33/45 speed Power supply unit. (worth $700) Housed in Linn Sondek Afromosia plinth. Comes with fitted Denon DA-401 Tonearm, totally rebuilt around 6 years ago by Audio Restorations - with all needle bearings replaced and rewired with Cardas wire in single length to female RCA sockets. These arms sell alone on eBay for around $750 - $850 unrestored. It has been fitted on the base with spike feet and cups and IEC socket . Lid was replaced around 2 years ago, and besides a few minor scuffs - is in excellent condition. This deck has just been serviced with brand new Linn springs and grommets and levelled by Andrew at Hifi Restorations and fitted with an EEI 800 cartridge, originally from Garrott Brothers. I have agonized about keeping it, but have reluctantly decided to sell - believe price is more than fair for a deck of this high level. It will reward fitting a better quality cart later on, as I used to run a Dynavector 20X2L and Zyx R50 Bloom MC carts with great success ! The Mose PSU works fine with both speeds, however for some unknown reason the switch on the deck isn't lighting up blue when on 45. It is glowing red on 33 speed. Preference given to local buyers at this stage, depending on demand. Photos:
