  1. Greetings. I have recently purchased a Sondek LP12 with Valhalla power supply, but have read a Lingo power supply is much better. Any thoughts out there?. The rest of my set up is Linn, LK100, Majik and Mimic, although I am a relative newcomer to the world of Vinyl.
  2. At home after listening to my REGA RP3 , recently bought six weeks ago....and gotta say I'm having a lot of fun. I've done the mystical white belt upgrade and noticed a small yet clearer rise in SQ. The TT PSU arrived on Tuesday and this has been a huge improvement... without doubt the RP3 sounds like another (better) table. I would say this is a must have upgrade for anyone thinking about purchasing the RP3. Frank Zappa's Catholic Girls is sounding so tight a precise. Ortofon Bronze cart is starting to sing after around the 50 hrs mark. I'm a happy guy. Just thought I's share this moment of joy!!! M
  3. Hi All, When it comes to turntables I am very much a novice. With my very pitiful vinyl collection and the frustration of being unable to listen to a song with out heavy static and crackles - I quickly resign to the simple thought of a CD Player. Recently I came across this Linn Sondek LP12, I couldn't tell you if it was original or not but I have attached a few images showing as much detail as the light will allow. My Questions are: -There is no Power plug / or no connection for an external power source to be plugged in - Nor did it come with a power supply. How does this unit power up ? -When I carefully spin the platter, it scrapes the plinth unevenly, is this an issue that may be resolved by the slow easy spin of the motor and belt ? - Or something a little more serious with balancing etc ? I am sure I have other questions I have forgotten, But if any of you guys can help or have an opinion regarding, it would be much appreciated ! Dek.
  4. I don't think I have already started a thread for this and there has been some developments and thought it time to make some notes. I bought two of the Greek made phono preamps and assembled the whole unit a few weeks back. I bought the highend kit with M-Caps, dales wimas etc. It sounds great but too much gain. So much that my fav tube preamp (pentode actualy) can not be used with it. It over drives the tubes. I put my pots on the output. This preamp has a lot of gain and when you add it to my new 180W Tripath power amp and two stage 12AX7 preamp I can barely turn the volume knob up. I cut away Ck on the last stage of the preamp to lower the gain but this did little. I was going to add some resistors to lower the signal level going into the preamp but then this adds to the output impedance. Then I had an epiphany. I happen to have two JAN-GE 12AU7s (NOS) the type I have been using on my hybrid "Parley" tube and SS preamps. Nice tubes but not in the clear yet. Sure enough dropping in the "U" drop the gain to now a very workable level. Not only that but pots don't work well at extremes of their range. Now they work nicely toward the center of their range. But the JJ tubes supplied have a very short plate, about 1cm. Great for low microphonics. My GEs have a long plate. I just ordered the top of the range Psvane 12AU7-TII gold pins. These have (at least in the photo) a short plate. And where I have Gold Lion 12AX7s in my current preamp I will swap them to the GEs when the Psvanes arrive. So less gain in the phono preamp and preamp. And a better tube. The GE 12AU7s have a softer tone to the 12AX7s. OK for me but I can see why some like the crisper "X7"s. http://psvanetube.com/wordpress/tag/12au7/ http://psvanetube.com/wordpress/store/p ... or-single/
