  2. Further Information: Here is a beautiful vintage Japanese turntable. It is warm and smooth with great musicality and dynamics. Just serviced with new belt fitted and the stylus has plenty of life left. Includes original manual, cartridge, dust wand, stylus protector and original box for stylus. I had a couple of turntables prior to this, and it was this turntable that reignited my love of vinyl and showed me what the medium is capable of. I’ve since paid a lot more for other turntables, however the SR-2050C still compares very favorably and is a pleasure to listen to. It is in very good condition considering its age with just minor superficial marks in the dust cover. There is minor chip to the inside front plinth that is generally not seen unless looking down from above. See the pic. Otherwise you will see that it presents well. See info from Vinyl Engine below. Description The Sansui SR-2050C is a striking model strictly for the purist looking for the simplicity and accuracy of a manual turntable with the basic convenience of an automatic. Incorporating two of Sansui's latest engineering breakthroughs - auto lift/stop mechanisms - the SR2050C substantially adds to the convenience of the manual turntable without sacrificing any of it's accuracy. Like most automatics, the tonearm automatically lifts from the final groove of the record in play. But unlike conventional automatics which take advantage of increasing end-of-play tonearm speed to trigger the lifting device, the auto-lift mechanism is entirely electrical and is set in motion by a special detector circuit which activates a relay/solenoid control system. Specifications Type: 2-speed, belt-driven turntable with auto-lifter and auto-stop Platter: 301mm, 1.2kg, die-cast aluminium alloy Motor: 4-pole synchronous Speeds: 33 and 45rpm Signal to noise ratio: better than 40dB Wow and flutter: less than 0.07% Tonearm: static balance, tubular, inside force canceller, lateral balancer, direct readout stylus pressure scale Arm length: 220mm Overhang: 15mm Cartridge: induced magnet type Frequency response: 20-20,000Hz Output: 5mV Stylus pressure: 2g Stylus: 0.5mil diamond Dimensions: 190 x 442 x 352mm Weight: 11.8kg

  5. I posted a while back about a sansui au555 I had that got recapped and found it to be still a bit noisey (faint hiss). This is a follow up to that post, basically I was using it to drive my KLH model 5s and it sounded pretty good with those speakers and even better when I upgraded to an external phono stage (IFI zen phono). However the faint hiss began to bug me because my other integrated amp (Rega Brio) was silent. I switched back to that amplifier but used the external phono; I was surprised because with the internal phono it sounded a bit flat and the soundstage was a lot smaller compared to the Sansui, this completely change with the IFI zen phono. I ended up taking the sansui to a friends and we hooked it up to his vintage JBL’s (I think L40) I was surprised by the result, the hiss wasn’t audible unless you put your ear a few centimetres away from the speaker. It was fun to listen to and he ended up buying it off me, it was a win for both of us as his amp was not working well with his speakers at all.
  6. Further Information:Price Drop I have had this amplifier for over 5 years now, I got it recapped earlier this year (I did have some initial issues with the repair which I started a thread on here titled Sansui Au555 noisy inputs). I have been using it to power my KLH model 5s and was very happy with the sound this unit managed to get out of them. Unfortunately it is not the quietest amplifier and sometimes a faint hiss can be heard if you are close to the speakers. This is particularly noticeable on the phono 2 and phono 1 inputs, I ended up using an external phono-stage (IFI zen phono) and was impressed by the performance the sansui and IFI offered. The power cord which I have not changed since obtaining the amplifier has always slightly bugged me, if you look at the pictures you can probably see why. Unfortunately I will not offer demo in my home, however I may be able to demo at my work in Fitzroy. I regrettably threw out the receipt for the recap so I don’t have a list of what work was done unfortunately.
  7. I recently took my Sansui AU-555 in for a service because I was hearing a hissing sound no matter which input was selected. It got recapped and sounded great when I got it back from the shop however the noise still persisted. After running some tests at home I noticed when switched to Tape Head it is noisiest and as you turn further down the dial (Phono 1, phono 2 etc) the sound is still present but quieter. I disconnected all sources and tested again same thing. Even when the volume is turned all the way down to 0 the sound is there, it gets louder as you turn it up though. I returned the unit to the tech explaining all the above however they advised they can’t hear it at all. I noticed when the amp was returned it was set to Aux 2 which was the least noisy channel, so I suspect they never tried the other channels but even on Aux 2 it is still noisy to my ears. I have ran it through different PowerPoints in different parts of the house to try eliminate the possibility of a ground loop, even disconnecting all appliances except the amplifier obviously. I’ve tested with two different sets of speakers and also a pair of headphones to no avail. I most likely won’t return it to the tech as if they can’t hear it I doubt they could fix the issue. I have asked to a few other people to listen as well to verify I’m not honing in on something that no one else can hear. I mainly use Phono 1 with a Rega RP6 fitted with an Exact cartridge. My speakers are the new KLH model 5. I also have a Rega Brio-R which runs without any noise so again makes me think it isn’t a ground loop. So if anyone has any advice and/or recommendations for amp repair in northern suburbs of Melbourne it would be greatly appreciated.
  8. Up for sale is my little 18kg dream unit. I'm off to the studio to record some new music, a bit early (e.g. before I've saved up for it) as it helps out some musician mates that have hardly worked their craft in 18 months. But wages for a week for 3 other muso's plus studio costs, well that stings the wallet. I love this amp and would prefer to keep it, but I'll get along with an amp of lesser stature for a while, there will eventually be another Sansui Alpha to replace it, these are great amps Note: these were only sold in Japan, so it requires a step down transformer. I have a new isolated 500 Watt transformer on it's way from Tortech for something else (that will also be sold), you can grab that from me at cost if you want the convenience, or source your own. I could probably have hidden the blemishes, I'm a bit wary of cleaning fluids damaging the printing on it, a silver pen could hide the scratches or the lighter ones could be polished out of the aluminium but you get an honest view of it's condition. 5 minutes on your behalf and you should have it looking pretty sweet. I've highlighted scuffs/scratches in the photos, except on the front face, there are some very light scratches that aren't showing up in the photo - I'm letting you know that they are there. Maybe some different lighting might pick them up - I'll add an alternate picture later if I can capture them. 11. The best of 80s amplifier from Sansui. This is very clean and musical sounding amplifier. I am presently driving B&W Nautilus 805 with this amplifier and it plays them wonderfully. Prior to it, I have used it to drive Dynaudio Emit M20 (4 Ω speakers). 95 watt of clean power and Excellent damping factor, ideal for controlling big drivers with ease. I just want to try something else, hence selling this off for funds. Specifications: Power output: 95 watts per channel into 8Ω (stereo) Frequency response: 10Hz to 20kHz Total harmonic distortion: 0.005% Damping factor: 150 Input sensitivity: 0.1mV (MC), 2.5mV (MM), 250mV (line) Signal to noise ratio: 74dB (MC), 90dB (MM), 110dB (line) Channel separation: 80dB (MM), 50dB (MC), 80dB (line) Output: 250mV (line) Speaker load impedance: 8Ω (minimum) Dimensions: 445 x 163 x 403mm Weight: 13.7kg

  13. Further information: A beautiful Sansui equaliser in black finish in stunning condition. It comes with original packaging, instruction manual (quite handy for this one to learn how to drive it) and rack mount handles. It is in near new condition and all functions work. The motorised sliders are smooth and all are OK. The factory presets work and the unit defaults to them after being powered down for the correct amount of time. It is a multi-voltage unit and is set internally to 240v. Unfortunately, I don't have the original set-up microphone. I do have a Denon DM-S205 set-up microphone I can include with it but I don't know if it is 100% compatible and I haven't tested it with the equaliser. Alternatively, I have read up about a Behringer ECM8000 mic that should be compatible and is available on eBay. The original mic was an omni-directional 600ohm but nothing particularly special as far as I can determine. I think the price is fair considering the offerings currently available as checked out using HiFi Shark. It has the original packaging and I will add extra outer layers to protect it further for shipping. Postage within Australia using parcel post will be about $80-$100 including insurance. If interested, give me your postcode and I will get a more accurate price. International shipping is available at extra cost. Ask me to get a quote if interested. 14. The Sansui Awesome Foursome Review 2020. List on contenders; Sansui AU-111 (1966) vs AU-1111 MOS Vintage (1989) vs Alpha 907 Limited (1994) vs Alpha 907 NRA (1998). Might add another contender or two in the mix. I'd love a restored AU-X1 into the mix that way we have pretty much one from each decade. Thinking of a small gtg of passionate Sansui nutters only ? It could be some time before this actually happens but stay tuned. Looking in August or September depending on the Cov19 situation. What are your thoughts or opinions on what will sound the best to you. What design do you prefer internally or externally with built quality Black, silver or gold. 16. So I recently purchased a little sansui au101 that has an issue where it is blowing fuse f003 for the right channel. I have since recapped the entire unit and replaced all transistors with suitable replacements but the problem persists. I also replaced the trim pots with multi turn units and I am able to set steady bias at idle however I have discovered that when the amp is receiving audio input with my multi meter attached to the emitter resistor r838 the bias jumps through the roof putting out distorted crackly sound which will then blow the fuse due to excess current. I have spent ages inspecting traces and solders, testing resistors etc but seem to have hit a dead end with it. Any help or suggestions where to look next would be greatly appreciated?
  17. Item:Wanting to buy Sansui TU-7900 tuner Price Range: Neg. Item Condition: New or Used Extra Info: I’m in Brisbane,so willing to pay for postage.

  19. Hi Guys, Need your help and suggestion. I am looking for a modern alternatives to vintage Sansui integrated amps, particularly Sansui AU series (AU-217, 417, 517 and so on). I had a Sansui AU-217 MKII Vintage Amp for a while and was very happy with it. While my speakers have come and gone, I did keep up with that amp. Over last year or so, I have been working more remotely and needed a setup on my desk, so I went around and bought the Sonos Ones with Sonos Sub as my desktop setup for ease of use and less space. This worked well, however one day I brought out the Vintage amp and set it up on opposite wall to listen to some old speakers and I was blown away and immediately regretted having this replaced with Sonos. So, I sold the Sonos Setup and have been listening to Sansui amp with vintage and DIY speakers. Last month I upgraded my Home theatre speakers from Ascensions speakers (Edward's speakers from Adelaide speakers), and needed some fund to pay for it. So, the vintage stereo setup had to go and I ended up selling the Sansui amp and the speakers. I still have my DIY speakers hooked up to friend's old Pioneer AVR receiver. Day by day I am missing the Sansui Amp and regretting the sale of it. This brings me to my quest to find the alternatives in modern world. Finding decent Sansui AU series amp is hard here in Australia and just as expensive as the modern units. so the question is are there any modern alternatives to Sansui AU series with similar sound signature. My budget is around $400 to $600. I have been eyeing Marantz PM5005 and Rotel A10 in that price range. However, can anyone recommend me a modern amp that sounds similar to Sansui? I am not fussed about the connectivity as in Bluetooth or network connection in amp.
  20. Further information: This magnificent Sansui receiver came from the ANU school of music recording studio, where it was used to drive altec monitors.(note the sticker from Canberra institute of the arts- one of many names covering the school of music over the years) It works fine- as a pro use studio amp it was very well maintained. One curious feature is that the tuner is AM and Short Wave (MW ). They are photos of the actual receiver below. I am in Canberra and can post anywhere. Postage should be between $25- $45 depending on distance OneBay these go for about $280 so this is a steal From the HIFI Engine: Power output: 30 watts per channel into 8Ω (stereo) Frequency response: 20Hz to 20kHz Total harmonic distortion: 0.05% Input sensitivity: 3.5mV (MM), 200mV (line) Signal to noise ratio: 75dB (MM), 105dB (line) Output: 200mV (line) Speaker load impedance: 4Ω to 16Ω Dimensions: 430 x 136 x 311mm Weight: 7kg Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.
  21. Item: Sansui AU-X501 Integrated Amplifer Location: Perth Price: Sold Item Condition: Good Reason for selling: Funding new purchases Payment Method: Pickup only - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: I was recommended this model by a number of the incredibly helpful (and wise) Sansui gurus on SNA. I paired it with some usher s520 speakers which can be a bit clinical and are fairly inefficient - fantastic match - but it was equally happy driving some bigger Sony APM 3-ways. I’ve really loved the amp – heaps of power that belies the rated 80 watts and a very detailed, lively sound. It still seems to have some of that Sansui warmth, but more modern and transparent than the 1970s gear. Very nice phono stage with MM/MC switch. As prices of the earlier Sansui amps have gone through the roof in the past few years, this model appears a bit of a sleeper - the smaller brother of the x701 and x901 which I think sold in Japan with the alpha prefix (Sansui nomenclature is not my strong suite though). I haven't even had the lid off this one, because it all seems to work fine. I think it’s basically untouched under the hood. There’s no crackling I can recall with any of the buttons or knobs but given the age it probably could do with a deoxit. I’ve not checked the bias nor any of the capacitors to see if they’re in spec – again probably worth doing at some point for what’s now I guess a vintage amp. The main filter caps are Elna for Audio which should hint at decent quality components. I’d conclude the condition is cosmetically pretty good for the age although certainly not mint – the black mirror painted aluminum face on these is hard to photograph as it just reflects everything, however the front is quite clean. I've tried to depict it as honestly as I can. Some of the black paint has worn in a thin line on the top edge that gets touched a lot – this seems like a common thing from other units I’ve seen on the web but I didn’t find it that noticeable and made no attempt to touch it up. The previous owner was kind enough to sand back and respray the lid with a satin black finish before handing it to me and I think he’s done quite a decent job. Finally this unit has some SNA provenance which I quite enjoy – I was browsing the site looking for other examples of the x501 and noticed that @Vortexjah had posted one for sale in 2013. Pretty sure I checked out his listing and the comments when I was considering buying mine. For some reason I was minded to cross-reference the serial number and bugger me if it isn’t the very same one! We worked out that it had gone from @Vortexjah in QLD to a guy in the NT, and then was purchased by a chap on a trip to the top end who brought back to Perth for a few years before he sold it to me about 18 months ago. It looks pretty much the same as it did 7 years ago! Be nice to keep it in the SNA community. Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.

  24. Item: Sansui AU-D33AU Integrated Amplifier Location: Balwyn, Vic Price: $170 Item Condition: Good *see below Reason for selling: N L R Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal Extra Info: This is the amp I grew up with. Possibly the reason I got into this hobby in the first place. It has some minor cosmetic blemishes on the top and the binding posts need some work as they are old and plastic and like to catch. Nothing a keen hobbyist couldn't fix easily. I have poked some fine cable through to connect to my thicker more recent design of speaker cable. It still sounds great! 50w P/C I think from memory.
