  1. I'm planning on having a musical start to the new year. Not sure I've got the time for another review thread right now, but what the hell. I'll just start it and see what happens when. I'm hoping the 90's were a good time for Onkyo. I've heard some of the later models and while I thought the 9555 was quite good sounding I thought it was built a bit on the light side, lots of chassis flex to that amp. And the 9070 I didn't like at all, no life to it, just dull and dark and sort of blunt. So, I'm hoping these earlier Onkyo models were a bit more musical. We'll see.
  2. Further Information: Practically brand new 3 months old and lying in its box. . I bought this year from Addicted to Audio. Will have 2 year warranty unlike the models they’re dumping. Have boxes etc…. RRP $2950
  3. Further Information: One Roksan Caspian M1 integrated amp. The Caspian is the "more refined" sounding amp in the Roksan range. The Kandy, or "K" series is the base model and more of a rock and roll amp (or at least that's how it appears from what I've read on the topic) while the Caspian, or M series, has a smoother mid range and less of a bass kick to its presentation. I wouldn't go as far as calling it an old gents amp but that is one way of looking at it. 70wpc of smooth, mid-range focused power. Price covers postage to eastern states and donation to SNA on sale. I do not have a remote for this amp. Actually that isn't quite true, I do have a remote but I don't have one that works, and that is what counts. Edit: I have been informed that this is not an M series amp, my mistake, I was not aware but have now done my googling homework. The Caspian has been available in 4 different series (that I am currently aware of). The original Mark 1, which this component is an example of, the Mark 2 which is labeled as such on the bottom right of the front plate (underneath the volume control), the M1, which is labeled in the same place but in red, and the M2 (not labeled in the same place but has a different faceplate with lights underneath the channels rather than around them). So in a way this amp is one of the grandfathers of the current Caspian models. Sorry for any confusion, I have renamed the thread accordingly. The volume and selector knobs have a rough-ish rubberized/plastisised finish to them so they don't look so good in pictures. The finish isn't actually coming off them, they just look that way.
  4. Further Information: One Linx Nebula Integrated amp in very good nic. Serviced by Andy McClaren of HiFi Repair Services prior to his heading back over to England. It used to run rather hot, now only mildly so. It is quite a good little amp with a nice warm tonality. And it looks awesome, that laser cut perspex front plate is just captivating to look at. Depending on the source of information you work with it is somewhere between 50 and 65 watts into 8 ohms and is 2 ohm capable. The unit comes with the info sheet in picture 6 (which is most of the information I have on the Linx) and the HIFI News magazine in picture 7 which contains a review of the amp and associated tuner. Note, this amp does not have a remote control. I have no specific packing for it but I do have many boxes, much bubble wrap and a fair bit of experience in wrapping-and-packing amps so it should be able to be sent pretty much anywhere.
  5. Further information: Thanks to those who inquired but for now I’ve decided to keep this amplifier. I’m selling off a bit of gear but this one hurts the most. This was specially built to my preferences by Richard. Estimated 80w per channel but those who know Richard understand his rating are rubbery and an estimation at best but in using the amp this seems about right. Unlike many of Richards amps which are single input this has 4 inputs PLUS 2 variable outputs. I wanted these included so I could use a headphone amp but they can equally be used for an active sub or a pair or active subs. I also asked for the highest quality volume and selector switches. The volume control has a lovely weight to it and the input selector moves with a nice decisive click (thunk). I also upgraded the feet because the ones that came with the case were rubbish and also bought better quality knobs because those that came with the case were rubbish. It has high quality speaker posts and includes the power chord. I’ve owned it for maybe 4 years but there is a long story behind the purchase of this amp. Richard and I go back a long way. Those who have owned or do own a Quasimodo know how good they are with a transparency that is associated with valve amps without the heat. This amp has only ever been connected to a pair of Sonus Faber Liuto speakers (which will also be for sale shortly). 23. Item: Odyssey Cyclops Extreme Integrated Amplifier Location: Lara / Melbourne VIC Price: $900 Item Condition: Very good (see below) Reason for selling: No longer in use Payment Methods: Direct Deposit, Cash on pickup, Paypal (add %3) Extra Info: This is the 'Extreme' version of the Cyclops, with many upgraded parts. 110wpc. About 4 years old. You can read a review of the power amp version (called the Khartago) here: http://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/tas-195-odyssey-audio-khartago-stereo-amplifier/ The Cyclops is a Khartago with a volume knob. I purchased this amplifier from Duckman at the end of 2014 and used it since then with a pair of Vivid Audio V1.5s. I was extremely happy with the combination but felt the need for a change. Duckman said the following: "I purchased this amplifier based on its reputation in the Head-Fi community as an excellent match for the Audeze LCD3 planar magnetic headphone, and have used it almost exclusively to run these headphones from the speaker taps. If you own an Audeze or one of the harder to drive Hifiman headphones, you won't be disappointed with this amp." "It is in very good cosmetic condition. However there is a spot on the rear where I removed a piece of adhesive felt from a replacement module sent to me by Klaus - the amp's builder - (the original module was noisy and was entirely replaced), and it has taken some of the finish off. The photo is a bit fuzzy, but you'll see it. The original cost including shipping was around $1800 USD." I'd prefer local pickup or I can deliver around the Melbourne area. Reluctant to post. Images:
  24. Item: Rotel RSX-1056 AVR Location: Flemington, Vic Price: SOLD $250 Item Condition: Very good Reason for selling: Gone to much pricier pre and power amp Payment Method: Pickup only for now - Cash, Paypal (+3% unless friend transfer), bank transfer Extra Info: Why the cheeky 'super integrated' reference? Well, I think many people trying to put together a good sounding 2 channel or 2.1 channel system overlook older high-end AVRs. Where else can you get powerful, musical amps, subwoofer control and a pretty darn good Burr-Brown DAC for this price? Just run an optical cable from your TV and one from your cheap CD/DVD player, then use an RCA cable for your smartphone/laptop. All you need to do is add speakers for a great value sound system. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I think it looks quite handsome if you have the space. Standout features for me are: 2 x 100W into 8ohm (and don't forget the power supply is designed to support 5 channels at 75W) Subwoofer out, including ability to control crossover and levels 5 digital inputs (2 x optical, 3 x coax) I used this to run my Dynaudio Focus 160 when I first got them, which are quite difficult to drive (4ohm, 86dB) and it never lacked for control or volume. Includes original remote, but I prefer to use a universal remote such as a $30 Harmony. Pictures:
