  1. Yes, still using mine. However it has developed the blue tinge of death on the left hand 1/3rd of the screen. It's very anoying but have decided to to put up with it until 1. It dies completely or 2. I can afford a replacement. I don't think it would be worth getting fixed. I've had it since 2005....time flies !! I think I'll keep my eyes open here for pre-loved PJ next time. And AL....I'm loving the Cambridge 751. Thanks for your rave reviews....it was pricey but hey, quality is remebered long after price is forgotten !!
  2. Massive thanks to all that have chipped in with info.....much apprecitaed. I dont really have clear line of sight to the Dandenogs, but I'm quite high up, not in a dip. Not pointing at poer lines either. When I first moved into the area, I went digital (with a SD stb) straight away due to terrible ghosting on analog. I did not have a dedicated digital antenna, just used the old one which worked fine appart from the odd picture breakup due to interference (fridge open/close vacuum cleaner etc) So I decided to fix it once and for all and get cabling re-done with threaded F connectors and a new digital antenna. The setup was antenna to amplifier, amplifier to 4 way splitter, 4 cables to 4 outlets. Up untill recently, it has been rock solid. However, the bad weather seems to now be causing issues So I decided to get up into the roof to check cabling etc. The plot thickens. Using trial and error during a bad case of pixelitis (all channels bad appart from ch31 ) , I slowly removed/added components from my setup to see what would happen. Eventually, I found that after REMOVING the amplifier the picture was fine. I now had the antenna going directly into the 4 way splitter and all looked good. So now I'm even more confused. When the weather is bad, that is when I would expect to need the amplifier. However, removing it fixed the problem. Is it possible the amplifier is somehow failing and corrupting the signal, particulary during bad weather ? I still havent got around to getting a Pro out, maybe I dont need to now !!! Cheers......Tex.
  3. Hi AlanH......still suffering terrible picture breakup, Melbourne weather has not been great lately. oddly enough...I still get good reception on channel 31....all others are unwatchable. Time to get the pro's back in I feel. Tex.
  4. Hi pwd.....yes, I'd assume weather should not affect the picture too much. I'll have to look up someone with a good rep in our area to check it out !!! Cheers.......Tex.
  5. Hi, Digital TV is basically unwatchable tonight in my location, Canterbury Melbourne. The picture is extremely pixelated and no sound. Now I know storms are about but should my picture degrade to an unwatchable state for hours on end ?? I spent $700 plus afew years back getting a dedicated DTV antenna and cabling fixed up. Is anyone else in the same boat tonight ?? Thanks.....Tex.
  6. Well.....I've now also joined club 751BD. I've been umming and ahhing as to which BD player to get and given that 80-90% of its duties will be Music, I ended up pulling the trigger on the CA 751BD. I don't have it yet, it's a Xmas pressie. Thanks to all in this thread / Forum for helping me decide. It's serious coin......but as my brother in law once told me.....quality is remembered long after price is forgotten. Roll on Dec 25 !!! Cheers......Tex.
  7. Anyone listened to the Yamaha bd-a1010 ?? I'm still looking at getting a new BD player that must be really good in the audio department. I know you get what you pay for (generally) but I still think $1200 (or maybe a bit less) for the CA 751 is a bit steep. Yamaha bd-a1010 can be had for $600.....but I can't find any in depth reviews anywhere. Anyone ? Anyone ? Cheers....Tex.
  8. I'm also looking to pick up a new BD player. Initial thoughts were a CA 751bd....but I'm struggling with budget. My list now includes 1. Sony BDP s580 2. Pioneer BDP-140 or BDP-440. I can't seem to locate any PIO BDP-440's in Melbourne or much on the net about them, maybe they're too new. Anyways, I'd like a multi purpose player, emphasis on music (CD & SACD oddly enough) but I'd like decent bluray and dvd playback. I'd like to keep to one decent new device, not separates. Any advice anyone has will be gratefully accepted. Cheers......Tex.
  9. I'd recommend 1. Avalon - Roxy Music & 2. Tommy - The Who. Both SACD's.
  10. I won an AppleTV at a conference recently. Very happy with it for the price :-) I have it connected via HDMI to my Yamaha rxv2600 then HDMI to Panasonic 32" LCDTV. Streaming music via iTunes works well, great for background music listening. As a trial, I used DVD decrypter to decrypt a DVD. I then used latest Handbrake to convert to AppleTV format using the pre-defined AppleTV settings. I don't have time to investigate and tinker with all the options. This process took about 2.5hrs all up. The results are pretty good, file size was about 1.4Gig from memory and plays back fine over wireless streaming. Cheers......Tex.
  11. Interesting article at http://www.kenrockwell.com/apple/itunes.htm re CD import settings. I use 128 kbs Variable Bit Rate (VBR) AAC as in the article and am pretty happy with the results. Playback via my AppleTV via HDMI to my yamaha rxv2600 sounds ok. Still prefer the raw CD but for convenience its aok for background music. Cheers.....Tex.
  12. Who knows...but its all good now. Maybe my signal is on the lower side of adequate, so when the weathers not so good the signal gets affected. This is the first time I've noticed such bad breakups though. It used to be that way before I had my aerial & signal booster seen to, its been really good since then....until last night !!
  13. Ok....thanks for that....I'm in Camberwell/East Hawthorn area...
  14. Hi Folks.....is it just me or is Melbourne Digital TV transmissions gone bad tonight ....approx 19:00hrs. Every station is pixellating and sound breaking up except for C31 ??? Cheers.....Tex.
  15. If it's a Melbourne based guide you want, look no further than http://forums.dvbowners.com/index.php?showtopic=8605 Be sure to heap praise on CALVI, he has done a great job providing this EPG data.... Cheers......Tex.
  16. How about The Bridges of Madison County I think it's a pretty good Movie too !!
  17. Yes DSOM is very good. I've been picking up some SACDs from Amazon US recently, most sound pretty good. Only because I have a SACD player and whats the point of having it without any SACDs !! Prices vary, anything popular and out of production will cost a bit. I picked up Roxy Music - Avalon.....simply stunning SACD surround disk. However, it did cost me the best part of $90.....but I think it's a MUST HAVE alongside DSOM. I'll probably stop at my 8 or so SACDs, maybe get some classical stuff locally. I can't afford to build up too big a collection, simply too expensive. Cheers....Tex.
  18. Well...I've been doing some leg from Amazon US. I've managed to pick up The Police - Every breath you take Roxy Music - Avalon The Who - Tommy Elton John - Madman across the water, Capt. Fantastic, Goodbye yellow brick road Jeff Wayne - War of the worlds All on SACD....all pretty good so far. Avalon knocks my socks off......simply brilliant even if it did cost me $80 !!! Cheers,
  19. Thanks for the heads up Cooksta.....will check them out. Happy new year. Tex.
  20. I don't own either of those, but I do own the previous Yammy, the rxv-2600b. My brain tells me the 2700b would slaughter the 667 for both performance & build quality. The 2700b is a great unit. From memory, above my 2600b, it had an extra HDMI input and the HDMI could pass 1080p @ 50 & 60hz. Even though it didnt have the newer decoders for BLUray, it can handle multi channel PCM over HDMI so all you need is a bluray player doing decent decoding of those audio formats and sending PCM over HDMI and your in business. If you ever want to give away that 2700b, I'd be happy to take it off your hands !!! :-) Cheers....Tex.
  21. Good advice re the level matching, I have a basic SPL meter so will try that out. I think second hand is good advice also. I'm sure there are some real "finds" out there in the anaolg world with people keen to jump on the digital bandwagon.......I know, I was one of them !!! Cheers
