Vitus SM-025 Doubles Class A Power Over SM-011

Vitus Audio is pushing its Signature Series amplification forward with the SM-025, a pair of substantial Class A/AB monoblocks developed to succeed the SM-011 after more than a decade in the Danish manufacturer’s range.

The SM-025 itself has been some time coming, having appeared publicly before reaching production, so this is not a brand-new July 2026 launch. More interesting is just how extensively Vitus has reworked the design beneath its familiar Signature Series styling.

Its predecessor arrived in 2014 and was notable for Vitus Audio’s growing use of surface-mount devices within the power stage, as well as the Rock and Classic output-stage coupling modes originally developed for the company’s MP-S201. The SM-025 retains the Class A/AB concept but moves to a larger platform informed partly by engineering developed for the flagship SIA-030 integrated amplifier.

The biggest change is considerably more Class A power when compared to the SM-011. The original delivered around 25W into 8 ohms or 50W into 4 ohms before transitioning to Class AB operation. The SM-025 confidently doubles those figures to approximately 50W and 100W, respectively. Maximum Class AB output remains around 200W into 8 ohms and 400W into 4 ohms.

Vitus says the SM-025 uses a newly developed output stage and revised internal architecture rather than simply increasing the bias of the previous amplifier. The physical chassis has grown too, measuring 177mm high compared with 135mm for the SM-011, while width remains 435mm. The additional space is intended to improve airflow and provide greater separation and shielding around critical sections of the circuitry. Each monoblock now weighs 38kg, up from 36kg.

Power comes from a custom 1.4kVA transformer backed by 180,000µF of capacitor storage per monoblock. Interestingly, that capacitance figure is actually lower than the 240,000µF quoted for the SM-011, reinforcing that the SM-025 represents a change in power-supply architecture rather than a simple exercise in making everything larger. Vitus continues to use a true-balanced topology from input to output and no global negative feedback.

The company’s information sheet says several concepts from the SIA-030 were incorporated into the new mechanical design, particularly around airflow and shielding, while describing the SM-025 as offering greater resolution, power, dynamics and lower perceived noise than its predecessor. Those remain manufacturer claims, of course, but the electrical and mechanical changes behind them are substantial.

There is not a great deal of complexity around the back panel, with each monoblock offering one balanced XLR and one RCA input, both specified for 2V RMS sensitivity and a 10kΩ input impedance, plus a single set of loudspeaker outputs. Vitus puts output impedance at 0.075 ohms, with signal-to-noise better than 110dB at 1kHz and THD plus noise below 0.01%. Frequency response is quoted from 5Hz to 100kHz with the filter engaged, extending down to DC when it is switched out.

The SM-025 is offered in Pure White, Jet Black and Warm Silver as standard, with Titanium Orange, Dark Champagne and Titanium Grey among the company’s optional finishes. European pricing is currently listed at around €55,000 per pair, while US dealers are advertising the SM-025 at US$68,250 per pair in standard finishes. Australian pricing has been confirmed at A$100,500.
