Marantz has announced two new additions to its hi-fi line-up: the MODEL 70 integrated amplifier and CD 70 CD player, a pair of full-width separates designed to refresh the brand’s entry-level offering while preserving its classic sonic identity alongside matching the company’s other lines’ contemporary design language.

Arriving as the spiritual successors to the much-loved PM6007 and CD6007, the new components aim to combine Marantz’s familiar warm, detailed presentation with the connectivity and design expectations of today’s music lovers. However, we’re told the MODEL 70 won't be coming to North America yet.

Available in Black and Silver-Gold finishes, the MODEL 70 and CD 70 bring the company’s latest design language to a more accessible part of its range, with a cleaner look intended to fit modern living spaces.

Marantz says both products have been engineered with carefully selected components, optimised internal layouts and vibration-resistant chassis structures to deliver a more refined listening experience while keeping everyday usability front and centre.

Marantz MODEL 70

The MODEL 70 is built around an upgraded current-feedback Class A/B amplifier stage rated at 50 watts per channel, backed by an enhanced power supply and larger toroidal transformer for improved dynamics, speaker control and authority.

Digital duties are handled by a “high-performance” ES Sabre DAC, while Marantz’s proprietary HDAM circuitry is employed to preserve the speed, clarity and musical character associated with the brand. Vinyl users are catered for, too, thanks to an onboard moving-magnet phono stage.

The amplifier also adds HDMI ARC for TV audio, allowing users to route television sound through their hi-fi system while retaining volume control from a TV remote.

Bluetooth has been expanded to include both receive and transmit functionality, with support for aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, AAC, and SBC codecs, enabling wireless streaming from compatible devices and private listening through wireless headphones.

A broad spread of analogue and digital inputs is joined by preamplifier and subwoofer outputs, giving the MODEL 70 enough flexibility for a variety of systems and rooms.

Marantz CD 70

The matching CD 70 continues Marantz’s long-running commitment to disc playback, using the same high-performance DAC found in the MODEL 70 alongside proprietary HDAM circuitry for detailed and expressive CD reproduction.

While we were told that the Applause Award-winning CD 60 was fitted with an ESS9016M2K DAC chip, the chip in the Model 70 and CD 70 is not specified beyond being an ES Sabre number.

Its front-panel USB-A input supports high-resolution audio files, including FLAC HD, ALAC, AIFF, and DSD, making it a more versatile source for listeners with both compact disc collections and digital music libraries.

Marantz has also paid attention to mechanical construction, with an upgraded power supply, double-layered chassis base, rigid isolation feet and copper hardware designed to reduce noise and preserve musical detail.

For headphone listening, the CD 70 includes a fully discrete headphone amplifier with HDAM technology, adjustable gain control and automatic headphone detection.

Together, the two components form a complete Marantz separates system aimed at first-time hi-fi buyers, experienced enthusiasts and existing Marantz owners looking for a more contemporary route into the brand’s signature sound.

The packaging has also been updated as part of Marantz’s sustainability efforts, using FSC-certified carton materials, paper-based protective elements and packaging designed to reduce plastic consumption.

Commenting on the launch, Lyle Smith, President of Sound United brands at HARMAN, said:

MODEL 70 and CD 70 perfectly capture what Marantz stands for today. They honour the legacy of two of our most successful and celebrated products while introducing a new level of design sophistication, performance and versatility. Each component is designed for music lovers who want authentic hi-fi performance, beautiful craftsmanship and effortless integration into their modern lifestyle. The Marantz MODEL 70 integrated amplifier is priced at €850 | £749 | AU$1,455, while the Marantz CD 70 CD player will cost US$750 | €600 | £499 | AU$1,000. Both land on shelves on August 15th.
