Marantz Announces 6007 Entry-Level Range

The Marantz 6007 Series looks to pick up where the company's much-loved 6006 Series leaves off.

Even though there is little to discern between the next-gen and out-going models at first glance, we are told that the engineers and Marantz Sound Master have been busy in the engine bay.

Marantz PM6007 Integrated Amplifier

Firstly, the 45-watt-per-channel into 8ohms PM6007 (£499) boasts a Toroidal power transformer, more substantial power supply capacitors as well as the company's classic current feedback amplification topology with HDAM-SA3 (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module) circuitry, resulting in a quoted frequency range of 20Hz-20kHz. 

The ins and outs are catered for by five analogue inputs, one coaxial input and two optical digital inputs. The set-up includes a Moving Magnet phono preamp for vinylistas and a subwoofer output for bass hunters.

Digital audio fans will rejoice too as the previous iteration's Cirrus Logic CS4398 DAC gives way to the reference quality AK4490 Digital to Analogue Converter which will decode 192-kHz/24-bit, DSD 5.6MHz resolution for optimum playback fidelity. Additionally, the DAC is said to be fully-shielded so as not to interfere with the analogue section.

Furthermore, the same DAC is employed in the new CD6007 (£399) along with two selectable digital filters, which Marantz generally reserve for their upper-tier products. In the CD6007 CD player, the DAC is also there to decode from a USB memory stick and covers all the major formats, including DSD.

The Marantz CD6007 also sees more enhanced components including a low-noise power supply with high-speed, high-current Shottky Barrier Diodes and 120% larger capacitors for improved stability, along with HDAM (SA2, in this case). 

We're told to expect improved channel separation thanks to the use of independent voltage regulators for left and right output stages. Also, when there are no cans plugged in, the headphone circuit switches off, which should reduce interference, too. Moreover, the headphone amp has three gain settings (Low/Mid/High) to take advantage of even the most power-hungry audiophile ear pleasers.

The Marantz PM6007 and CD6007 cost £499 (€549) and £399 (€449) respectively and will be available from September 7th in the familiar black and silver-gold options.
