100 Years of Design: Bang & Olufsen Unveils Centennial Collection

The Centennial Collection is a trio of special editions inspired by the brand's heritage, paying tribute to a century of uncompromising design and sound.

Drawing on decades of design inspiration and "blending archival details with contemporary craftsmanship," Bang & Olufsen's Centennial Collection reimagines the Beoplay H100 headphones, Beosound A5 portable speaker, and iconic Beosound A9 5th Gen oval standing loudspeaker.

According to the company, the collection celebrates defining decades of Bang & Olufsen's history, from the checkered grill patterns of early radios to the vibrant colour palette of the 1970s in Century Red, Chestnut Brown and Century Blue. The brushed aluminium surfaces perfected in the 1980s reflect the raw beauty of the brand's signature material. Meanwhile, the refined leather accents and precision-turned dials speak to the design codes of the last decade. Each detail carries the spirit of its time.

Beoplay H100 Century Brown

Beoplay H100 promises immersive sound with a design crafted to stand the test of time. Optimised for Dolby Atmos, the headphones feature titanium drivers and advanced noise cancellation.

This special edition sports a Century Red leather headband that complements the Chestnut Brown inner headband and ear cushions. Inside the earcups, a vibrant contrast of Century Blue detailing really makes a statement. Meanwhile, the cool, natural silver tone glass disc features the anniversary logo.

The Beoplay H100 come with a matching leather pouch in Century Red, with accents of Century Blue.

Beosound A5 Century Weave

Beosound A5 portable speaker boasts Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, a long-lasting battery, and built-in wireless charging, alongside outdoor resilience thanks to its IP65 water- and dustproof rating, which is just as well, since you will want everyone to see this special edition.

Featuring a paper raffia weave in Beige and Chestnut Brown, said to reinterpret the iconic chequered speaker grills of the 1950s and echoing the textures of Bang & Olufsen's earliest radios, the Beosound A5 also sports a brushed aluminium frame and a Century Red leather strap.

Additionally, anniversary engravings underscore its craftsmanship, while the Century Blue cable "adds a touch of playful vitality."

Beosound A9 Century Blue

An icon of minimalist design, Beosound A9 unites sculptural form with room-filling sound, powered by seven finely tuned drivers.

This reimagined edition is wrapped in Kvadrat's Centennial Cadence fabric, a bold checkered weave in Century Blue and Chestnut Brown that, says B&O, brings a dynamic, contemporary vision. The natural aluminium ring and legs are finished with a heritage-inspired brushed treatment that recalls Bang & Olufsen's iconic 1980s aesthetic. Anniversary engravings honour the founders' enduring vision, while the striking Century Blue feet and cable add a vibrant finishing touch.

Kristian Teär, CEO of Bang & Olufsen, told StereoNET:

Since our founding in 1925, timeless design has been at the heart of everything we craft. The Centennial Collection honours our past, celebrates our present, and looks to the future. It is a tribute to the icons that have shaped Bang & Olufsen and to the enduring values that define our legacy.

Each product in the collection is finished with the B&O Est. 1925 Anniversary logo and carries a tribute to the founder's vision of Peter Bang and Svend Olufsen: "A never-failing will to create only the best."

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
