B&O's Beosound A5 has been designed in collaboration with Danish-Italian design duo GamFratesi and promises portable audio credentials alongside effortlessly stylish Scandi chic.
The Beosound A5 boasts 280 watts of 360-degree sound via a 13cm woofer, a pair of 5cm midrange drivers and a 2cm tweeter at the end of four digital amplifiers. We're told that the beamforming tech used in the A5 has been borrowed from the B&O Beolab 90 and 50 hi-fi speakers and "creates an immersive experience far beyond the expectations of a portable speaker."
Compatible with Beolink Multiroom, Airplay 2, Chromecast, Spotify Connect, Bluetooth 5.2 and more, the A5 utilises the brand's Mozart platform just like the Beosound A9 and Besound 2. This means you can connect a pair of A5s to create a stereo pair.
Mozart also enables Bang & Olufsen's products to receive software updates and upgrades, increasing their lifespan. Furthermore, the A5 has been designed to be serviced and simply repaired. Additionally, the company says it will produce easily swappable front covers in new materials and colour schemes, hopefully preventing that 'itch to ditch' when styles change.
Regarding style, design cues are said to have been taken from classic B&O models such as the Beolit 607 from 1961. Meanwhile, the A5 is offered in aluminium with a woven paper fibre front and a light oak handle or black anthracite aluminium with a dark oak cover and handle.

Our inspiration for Beosound A5 came from many places including the iconic Beolit series as well as natural materials synonymous with the colours and textures found in Scandinavian nature.
The Beosound A5 is not just a homebody, either. Thanks to its IP65 water and dustproof rating and claimed 12+ hours of playtime, this portable speaker is designed to enjoy the great outdoors. It even has phone charging skills to ensure the party continues.
The A5 in Nordic Weave costs £899/ €999, while the Dark Oak scheme is priced at £999/ €1099. Both styles are available now.
