Speakers  look and sound great @Tubularbells. I’m sure you’ll have many years loving them. Was great to see you happy with them finally in place. Good work to all that helped move them into position.

Eventful day at the Church,  already several pairs of hands at the ready when I arrived!

Very delicate operation manoeuvering  through the low door, very tight squeeze !

Old JBL's have to make room - out they go.

Speakers setup along arched wall initially, the backside of a very impressive looking speaker.

Things were a tad tight rearranging the whole Church!

Setup and @Tubularbells was less than enamoured with the sounds emanating from the Sovereigns.

So switcheroo to the old spot where he kept his JBL's and the smile started to come back

@Black Orange dozed off to the sublime tones !

Another hour later, still hogging the sweet spot while @Martykt grimaces 'how am I meant to test the micro speaker adjustments"??

Time to celebrate in style with a fine feast and beverages for all. (some earned their keep more than others) xD

Kunar wandering into backyard after all the hard work was finished, and just in time for food and refreshments. (least he brought beers!)

Hat's off to @Tubularbells for his supreme dedication to the cause , risking marital disharmony and domestic chaos, all  in the end well worth the effort.

And to @Red MacKay and the other bunch of hangers on / helpers.

Can be very happy with the sound - immersive is how I would describe it!

Now we just need to wait for the official GTG to be held.

OMG the food was so good!!! I missed the doggy bag but the taste lingers on.

Anyone having a function or needing some top quality catering should check out @Tubularbells Devil’s Grill!!

Wow, the're just beautiful!  It was a fantastic effort to transport these monsters safely - nice to see all the usual Victorian suspects turning out to help.

And they do look impressive in their new home - an ideal aesthetic match for the classical iconic vibe of Dunlavy's finest.  I understand the early models are the most sought-after and generally regarded as the best sounding.  To find a pair in such pristine condition, especially with unused grilles, is mind-boggling.

I'm genuinely envious, but it was nice that the temptation was removed so quickly and it's good to see them look so much at home already.:thumb:

Yes, I very am happy to report to Paul, that not a scratch or blemish of any kind was suffered by either of his former babies.

@jakeyb77 was there when I arrived with the van this morning, already chaffing at the bit to get to hear the Sovereigns.  He was almost more enthusiastic than Doug!  Many willing and capable hands appeared on time this morning to help unload out of the van and get the Sovereigns into the Church.  Many hands sure made the task a breeze!  Thanks everyone for turning up on time - except Kunar( @orangeblack) who obviously got daylight savings daydreaming.  But he did bring beer and goodies, so was let off the hook of course.

I was a mighty effort though, thanks everyone.  I had to be somewhere else important in the arvo so could not hang aroung for the fireup.  I will head back shortly Doug.

Look out djb!  Kunar hogged that 'sweet spot' like a seasoned veteran.

Many thanks Doug for the awesome food!  And it really was awesome, and so much of it.

The adventure continues for Doug...

Really, really glad to hear that.....:D    Its good to also see others admire the old Soverigns , they gave me MANY enjoyable listening moments!!

I believe the next big advnture for Doug and Red would be a lap around a big paddock inside 60 tons of armour.  Will BYO full gerry cans and cleaning rags if that might help...

Not a problem......?   the cobwebs need "Blowing out"..........just remember , 12 gallons per mile !!!!!! so you may need a few jerry cans... Ha Ha! ?

My old man was in the Light Horse and drove Ferrets and the odd Centurion. They are hard work to drive and you’re gonna need a LOT of Gerry cans @Red MacKay a fuel miser they ain’t.

Anyone can go buy a ride in a Spitfire...

But a paddock lap in the World's Best Centurian is just a bit harder to secure!

Now that is an awesome experience to aspire to.

I might be I'll have to lay off buying vinyl for 6 months to save for the go juice required.

Man, it must be expensive to run a war!  A great reason to not have more,. but not at any cost of course.

Hey Doug - if you sell the JBLs we might have just about the right money. ?

That's pretty cool!

Well I'm going to call the day overall a success.

Getting the Duntechs from the van into the house went surprisingly well.

Following that lunch was superb !!

You should be very proud of what you've achieved with your sausages and salamis Doug.

The Duntechs proved to be a bit of a challenge to setup being pretty fussy on where they wanted to be positioned in the room.

In the end though I reckon they were sounding pretty good.

Should be interesting to see where this new adventure in the church leads you Doug. :D

What an amazing couple of days. To think this time last week the thought of actually owning a pair of Sovereigns would have just been a daydream to now actually having a pair in situ in the church is mind blowing.

Equally as mind blowing was the overwhelming show of support and community spirit  by the fine folk on this forum. Special thanks goes out to @Red MacKay for generously giving me his time for the 12 hour journey there & back, arranging the van as well as the audio nuggets of wisdom and the interesting tails in audio land during the trip (and yeah he does barely ever shut-up ?)

Knowing the deed was done the pickup was just the beginning so I put a call out for help via PM naming it "operation back break" as I knew i needed at least 2 others (Red had already volunteered) but instead had 8 show of hands willing to lend a hand and risk there backs for the cause!

As previously mentioned everyone showed up on time and for a bunch of audiophiles I found them surprisingly organised and in next to no time the Duntechs were in the room unschathed which I gotta say was a nerve racking moment as these speakers are no joke and can easily cause serious injury if the utmost care and respect is not taken.

In terms of positioning I thought I only had 2 options given the fact the room is quite small (4mx6m) but it soon became apparent they were not suited to short wall placement as even the mighty Sovereigns cannot overcome bad room acoustics  so the decision was made to put them along the long wall where the JBLs had been situated. Ahhhh much better.

So for the next few hours @Martykt was like a man possessed constantly tweaking the dunnies until he was happy with what he heard. I then got the rare opportunity to sit in the listening chair (im sure theres a joke somewhere about a bunch of audiophiles and just one chair but I digress) and wow things were beginning to take shape. One thing that was becoming clear though was that it was a bit to easy to get my amps working at there limits which really surprised me seeing the put out 500w/4ohms  so thats maybe a potential upgrade down the track.

Once everyone had gone I decided to give it a few more tracks before calling it a day so on went side 1 of "The Wicker Man" soundtrack which contains some fantastic folky female vocals and arrangements by the brilliant Paul Giovanni. WOW WOW WOW!!! It was a revelation with everything so clear, concise & uncannily real sounding so after that side I decided to give the Mike Oldfield opus Amarok a quick spin as that is a piece I know extremely well and is filled with many dynamic twists and turns. Even though the single track runs at a whopping 60min duration it still sounds very nice on vinyl and I can tell you my arse was welded to the seat for the duration. People often comment about hearing things they have never heard before and that was precisely the experience I had with the speakers revealing every textural nuance during those complex passages that lesser speakers bury. I am in love!

Again a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who offered there time yesterday as it is much appreciated.

Wow! And Wow again....

I know its still early days but here's the 10,000 dollar question. How do they compare to the JBL's? Being time aligned and vertically aligned superior imaging is a given but whats the dynamics like?

Do they have the mid-bass drive and LF extension of your JBL's?

IMO dynamic drivers will never give you quite the same transient bite that horns do so well so yeah the Duntechs are a significantly different sound from my JBL's, That said once things were somewhat dialed in im 95% sure the JBL's will no longer be part of the clergy (which is a bit sad as I do love them still) but it is pretty undeniable the Sov's are better in nearly every way however like many warned me they do like power so a change of amps is potentially on the cards which I kinda was hoping would not be the case.
