A full redesign would be cool to do - anything in your treasure trove design library that would be appropriate and worth the time?

You could probably improve them quite a bit, but it'd be lots of measuring and designing from there. I'd start with a clean sheet if I wanted to go to that much effort.

Best value would be a few $ on some poly caps, clean up and dodgy looking joints etc and enjoy them as they are. This is basically what my Mach 1's will get when the new speakers are finished, and I'll use them in the bedroom.

A little off topic but some of you will know the name Bob MOOG ? The synthesizer designer. Realistic commissioned Moog to build the Realistic MG-1 synth.

This is a realistic badged Moog synth and has all the beautiful warmth of a Moog because it is a Moog. I guess Realistic could have had a few speaker designers do the same?

With some of their stuff like the Mach series, definitely. I don't know the story details about who or why, but even when I was young I remember thing they were pretty good. I'm the second owner of mine (original sales dockets too) and they were $299 ea about 28 years ago.

Does any one know if any particular company specially made the drivers for the Mach ones & twos? Looks like they were made in Japan.

I know where you are coming from A9x, i bought my M2's new from the store, they were my first hi fi purchase ever, from my first pay packet i ever earnt. That is why they are special to me.

They are still great sounding speakers so something was done right when they designed them.

They cost $500 each back then.

I wanted some back then, but could never save enough so I used headphones with my Marantz 2285B receiver (my first purchase - 3 months of layby whilst at HS) and AR TT, and then later I inherited other items so I used them. I was having a random search around ebay last year and found my pair and am quite pleased with them. I could get nothing as good as them for what I paid new.

Not mine, but it looks the same for illustrative purposes.
